Hossa easily. Disregard the points. He was one of the most effective and important players of the Hawks dynasty and they most likely don’t win a single Cup without him.

Dominant 2 way, shut down, 1st line force. Both in the regular season and playoffs.

Chara’s legacy is still seen in Boston today

The culture he helped to build..

OH WOW the culture!

Hossa put the Hawks over the top for 3 Stanley Cup wins and a Game 7 OT loss in the WCF. If people want to call him a complimentary piece that’s fine I guess but he was a crucial piece to the Dynasty.

Not to mention lost twice in finals as well, with Penguins and wings.

Talk about being clueless

Chara’s legacy is still seen everyday 20 years after his signing and years after his retirement

Boston went from bottom to a perennial contender and has been able to keep it’s status the way it should have been impossible during cap era

Completely clueless

Perennial great regular season team that blows it in the playoffs and can’t win Championships sounds more accurate to me.

They won one time against a Vancouver team that had zero composure and got one of the best if not THE best goaltending performances we’ve seen post lockout from Tim Thomas.

Chara was amazing and a worthy candidate for best UFA signing ever but you’re a fool if you don’t think Hossa is a legitimate part of this discussion too.

Not to mention lost twice in finals as well, with Penguins and wings.
Obviously that was before he signed his UFA contract and before the relevant time period of this thread

Hossa was UFA for those teams as well, he went chasing a cup, signing one year deals. Those were in the cap era.

Your post is confusing, unless you weren’t aware.

I mean…does it need to be clarified we’re talking about his major UFA deal with the Hawks or are you being intentionally obtuse?

What I just showed you was those two things that were wrong, and I’m obtuse lol.

This thread is about the cap era, and UFA signings.

I added Pittsburg and Detroit as UFA signings, but they don’t count for you.

Why on earth would myself or anyone argue that Hossa’s PIT/DET UFA signings be the best of the cap era?

I was just correcting what you posted was wrong,
Obviously that was before he signed his UFA contract
Wrong

and before the relevant time period of this thread
Wrong

I wasn’t commenting on the best, just correcting your points, nothing more, nothing less,
But I took Hossa in the poll.

As much as I have loved the Hyman signing for my team, gotta go with the big man. Chara was an incredible find by the Bruins.

Chara was so effective in his prime. Changed the entire franchise too. His work ethic was unmatched.

I tend to put more stock in championships than culture for UFA signings.

Both culture and championships take more than one man to build, but at the very least we can see the impact of the player on the former, on the ice. I don't know what Chara did behind the scenes, or how much he contributed to their culture vs Bergeron or the coach, or the management seeking out specific attributes in players, etc. I'm sure Chara DID have impact on the Bruins culture, cause he's an incredible player and quite a presence, I just can't say how much he did. Whereas I can see exactly what Hossa did on the ice to put the Blackhawks over the top.

More over.... winning Championships is kind of the goal of this whole thing. You want great culture because you believe it will help you compete for and win championships. Culture for the sake of culture doesn't really mean much at the end of the day.

So I voted Hossa, but understand why Chara is winning the poll.

John Tavares, without him the Leafs were barely able to win 2 and 3 first round playoff games, with him they even won a single 2nd round game, generational leadership. He almost won Canada a Bronze medal as well, when he retires it's highly likely the Messier will be renamed the Tavares for his awesome leadership.
