The players are coming from my research on teams and their prospect pool, if you think there could have been better combinaison, feel free to vote for the one you think is the better one and present your combination.

Who has the best U24 future starting lineup (went with 3 forwards, 2 defenseman and 1 goaltender) amongst those rebuilding teams:

Montreal: Caufield, Slafkovsky, Demidov, Hutson, Ghule, Fowler
Detroit: Kasper, Raymond, Danielson, Seider, Edvinsson, Cossa
Ottawa: Stutzle, Greig, Pinto, Sanderson, Yakemchuk, Sogaard
Anaheim: Carlsson, McTavish, Zegras, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Suchanek
San Jose: Celibrini, Eklund, Smith, Dickinson, Cagnoni, Askarov
Chicago: Bedard, Reichel, Nazar, Levshunov, Vlasic, Commesso

funny how the Red Wings top prospect was left off, but Seider is Seider, and Edvinsson is playing some amazing hockey right now, so it's understandable.

ASP is tearing up the SHL and will be a stud PP QB in a year or 2
Exactly and I think the better question might have been which team has the best U24 group.

That being said, aside from goalies which is too hard to predict, Detroit has the group of 5 I'd least like to play in the playoffs just a really solid well balanced group.

Sieder is also having a really quiet but excellent start to the year so far.

Tough call. Hard to rank, but I wouldn't argue against any of: Montreal, Ottawa, Anaheim, or SJ as the top 4 in any order.

I voted Montreal because of bias, but I truly believe they have the most talent there

The only question mark is Guhle, who often gets hurt, but when he plays, he's a beast

I understand the need to draw the line somewhere, but it's difficult to rate for example Anaheim while pretending they don't have a 24 year old Dostal, or to ignore that Detroit has MBN, ASP, Augustine etc. while a team like Ottawa literally has nothing outside of those players listed.

Montreal has the best young group of players in the league.

Hutson will be a top 5-10 defenseman at his best. Slafkovsky will be a PPG winger with highly desirable physical attributes. Demidov will be Kaprizov+. Fowler will be a top 10 goaltender in the league.
The problem with any rebuild is that it's incredibly unlikely that most (or any) of these guys hits their fan-assessed ceiling.

I think it's more likely that Hutson ends up akin to the pure offensive smaller D of that past (Krug), that Demidov doesn't reach the heights of Kaprizov (still a top 6 forward though) and that Fowler isn't a staring franchise goalie.

I'm not saying any of the above can't happen, but we see this every year, especially with guys who really get hyped up by the draft/prospects. Most players just don't progress the way everyone thinks.

I feel like Clara over sucahnek for Anaheim…. But our young goalie is already a starter in nhl, and will be for the foreseeable future(dostal, 24)

San Jose imo will be scariest going forward

If you're expecting Demidov to be better than Kaprizov that's crazy to me.

Also Hutson will be nowhere near a top 5-10 defenseman

For poll purposes its Ottawa, Stutzle along with two potential #1D is too much.

Collectively it has to be the Ducks... so deep a player like Gauthier isn't even in the poll

Foerster-Hagens-Michkov
York-Drysdale/Bonk
Zavragin
I feel like that would firmly be at the bottom of the list. Michkov is realistically the only star/potential star of the group. Most of the others have several, and many are either sure-fire bets or are presently a high-end player in the NHL.

I'd rank them like that but it's kinda close, would need to expand to an older age range to see bigger differences

ANA
OTT
SJS
MTL
DET
CHI

Merilainen is trending better for Ottawa. Sogaard had very good potential but he has a hard time to make the jump to the NHL and gets his share of injuries too. Not too late for him as goalies have more time than skaters but Merilainen is more promising for Sens fans as of now.

Another Habs hater

Just to give some context on this

There's a few decent guys (Ostapchuk, Halliday, Merilainen, Donovan, Andonovski) but after Yakemchuk, no top prospect left. Kleven (22) will be good and is graduating this season and I think one of the recent 4th/5th round picks is going to become a surprising rising prospect

This is explained by Dorion sabotaging things up as usual thinking he was doing his job. First, they drafted Tyler Boucher 10th OA in 2021, a stupid pick from the moment it was made. Then, he thought DeBrincat and Chychrun were going to help his team but they were very bad fits and then Ottawa had to trade them for a much lesser return, ended up with Ullmark (thanks Staios) and 34 y/o Jensen.

That's for the 2021, 22 and 23 top picks but Dorion has sabotaged many more picks with terrible asset management for years.

Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris and Chabot are still young but Staios and company have a big challenge to be able to overcome these years of terrible management

Carlsson is freaking stud, really really like McTavish and Mintyukov and it's crazy that team has such a big 3. Zellweger is great. Zegras I'm not sure what's going on there currently but I can't ignore two 60+ point seasons. I'm actually a Suchanek fan but he's a toss up for NHL starter or not. This group will be as quick as anyone to turn the puck the other way and put it in the back of your net

Detroit Red Wings
Built the best and biggest from the back end, and most proven of any back end. Cossa is the best goalie of the bunch. Raymond is a 70 point player already. Kasper has already elevated the team since arriving. Danielson is gonna fly under the radar and play big minutes for the Wings down the middle. With this group I think they will be the hardest to score on and biggest pain in the ass to match up against

Montreal Canadiens
Arguably the highest potential in their forward group. I do like Hutson and Guhle but the latter may top out as a #2. Also a big Fowler fan, though he's still young and in college. Caufield is a dangerous scorer and already stepped right into 20 playoff games for his career and proved himself there

San Jose Sharks
Celebrini and Smith is gonna be one of the most feared pairs down the middle for a decade. Eklund coming along very well. I like Dickinson but unsure if he's a bonafide #1 or a Hanifin-like #2. Cagnoni I'm not really high on but would be happy to be proven wrong. Askarov is still a wildcard to me, but I have liked him

Chicago Blackhawks
#98 is self explanatory! Love Nazar, but want more from Reichel. Levshunov I've been maybe a bit lower on, but he does have a lot of potential to eat big minutes. Vlasic is excellent though idk if he becomes a #1D. Commesso is a fine prospect, but closer to 10-15 in a prospect ranking for me

Ottawa Senators
Stutzle is gonna be flirting with 90 points more often than not. Pinto and Greig are very solid supporting players, especially Pinto. Sanderson is a beast and will eat big minutes for years and years. Yakemchuk though very early could be a huge boom. Love how he sees and moves around the ice. Never really liked Sogaard, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong
