HAVE YOU EVER SEEN LETTERKENNY THOOOno actual hockey player talks like that.
No data for this thread obviously. Its objective and I am saying that any hockey player knowing a "snipe" is 99% top shelf bar down type goals. Can you snipe bottom corners or 5 hole or whatever from a disatnce? Of course, but when you see a goal scored top shelf bar down, you do "woooooo snippppppe!"How I know you never played hockey… no actual hockey player talks like that.
What’s your data?
And that is your opinion, it is not a fact. Not true at all. I absolutely love McDavid and am going to be a huge fan of him on his next team. I think J Skinner is garbage and I think Draisaitl benefits greatly from McDavid and would struggle hard if he was the big boy on Utah or whatever random team where he is the true #1.
Not at all. I ask for data to show the contrary. Sadly there isnt much for this specific example since both Draisaitl and McDavid have been pretty healthy their whole careers so we have to go off crumbs on both ends of the argument. But they play together very very often. This isnt Sid/Geno where they only saw PP time together. Drais and McD play near 40% of 5v5 together. So easy to say one depends on the other since they cant do it alone. And that is your opinion, it is not a fact.
So any argument to the contrary, even if solid evidence is provided to prove that you are incorrect, you will dismiss it because it does not align with your personal beliefs...that is literally the very definition of cognitive dissonance.
lol well doneI can actually vouch for the poster Benfranklin being a a good hockey player and the outright authority of who is and is not a sniper.
I was playing against him in 2019, and he deked out two of my players and embarrassed my goalie on a semi break. We lost 4-2 with him getting the winner. Players that played in Junior called him “el Diablo Queso” for his ability to go “top cheddar”. Unfortunately, the series was cut short because his mom told us lunch was ready and we had to turn off the ps5.
I played in the NHL and know a ton of players that would disagree with you.No data for this thread obviously. Its objective and I am saying that any hockey player knowing a "snipe" is 99% top shelf bar down type goals. Can you snipe bottom corners or 5 hole or whatever from a disatnce? Its simply a hockey term like mits, bucket, biscuit, sweater, twig, etc. A snipe is a high accuracy term, mostly top shelf. No data needed here. You score 25 empty net goals and no one is calling them snipes. This really isnt complicated.
Please elaborate. Obviously I assume sarcasm with your profession, but id love to hear the argument for quantity of goals being the reason someone is a "sniper" vs quality. From a former pro, please give us your wisdom.I played in the NHL and know a ton of players that would disagree with you.
I don't have to elaborate anything I played in the NHL and you didn't lolPlease elaborate. Obviously I assume sarcasm with your profession, but id love to hear the argument for quantity of goals being the reason someone is a "sniper" vs quality. From a former pro, please give us your wisdom.
lol well done
Real life though, I played against a bunch of current NHLers. I was never that good to get a sniff, but good enough to hang with D1/Junior players. Im old and spend too much time online now though so top beer league in my little town is where I snipe now.
Except the objective data proves otherwise. Not true at all. I absolutely love McDavid and am going to be a huge fan of him on his next team. I think J Skinner is garbage and I think Draisaitl benefits greatly from McDavid and would struggle hard if he was the big boy on Utah or whatever random team where he is the true #1.
You Canadian fans simply are in greater numbers here so its easy to pick on your teams for hating on mine, who currently have the two best players in the world on it. The Dawg and Big Balls Makar. The Oilers have the third and somewhere are the 10th best players in the world.
12 games is all you got?! Talk about a small sample size. Who were those games against? What goalies? Who were his linemates? How many were PP points?Except the objective data proves otherwise.
2020 - McDavid misses 6 games. Draisaitl 12 points.
2024-25 - McDavid misses 6 games. Draisaitl 11 points.
That's just off the top of my head. There are more examples and I can dig further into it, but I don't want to embarrass you any more.
Of the people to outscore him while in Pittsburgh, only Crosby, McDavid, Kane, Kucherov and Panarin had more assists. Not surprised the original Kessel comment was from 2015.
Leafs fans comically overrated Kessel's sniping abilities, and it was exposed when he got to the Pens. Dude's stick was so short and flexed that he couldn't even take one timers or backhands. It was purely snap shots, and even then, Kessel's snapper couldn't hold a candle to current Pastrnak or MacKinnon.
Yeah, he was a great playmaker--much more than he was a sniper.Of the people to outscore him while in Pittsburgh, only Crosby, McDavid, Kane, Kucherov and Panarin had more assists.
Love that you’re a good sport about the post.lol well done

Actually i think youre onto something with officially defining it here. They have to have more goals than assists. So assuming we ignore the quality of the goal, the 23-24 snipers who put up 40+ would be Matthews, Reinhart, Hyman, Forsberg, Point, Marchessault, and Boeser.View attachment 977277
Fun fact:
In the last 4 years Draisaitl is #2 in goals scored and has the highest shooting percentage for players playing minimum 200 games at 20%
Whats next ? Whos the best passer in hockey today and Drai isn't close because hes only makes backhanded passes ?That is the first example posted so far that is considered a "snipe". Every single player who has ever played in the NHL is capable of sniping. Certain players do it drastically more often than others and are thus considered "snipers".
I never said Draisaitl doesnt have the accuracy in his toolbox, but he rarely "snipes". Of his 387, I bet under 10 total are snipes. And that isnt a bad thing at all. If anything I applaud him for shooting high % shots vs aiming top cheese like other guys missing more often than not.
You can hate my posts, but I provide logic and data usually to back my theories. You can even disagree with my definition of a snipe and argue that simply scoring any goal is a sniper, but real hockey players will disagree with you.

Question is what is Drai ? Who is Drai ? Why is Drai ?
And look at the thread titleActually i think youre onto something with officially defining it here. They have to have more goals than assists. Hyman and even Reinhart are my two lol since 99% of their goals came in the slot, but Reinhart is proving to have a deadly shot. Hyman is still an A+ forechecker and all his goals come in the crease so "sniper" is tough for me there. The others though, definitely.
