I assume the Sister Act inclusion was a joke add lol.

I'd also add, more for the general contention that sequels are always worse, the following:

Top Gun Maverick
Aliens
Mad Max: fury road (basically a reboot though)
Spiderman 2
Toy Story 2
The Dark Knight
Logan
Mission Impossible(s) 4-6
Guardians of The Galaxy 3
Captain America 2
Avengers 3

Probably others.

Goldfinger for the Bond films

No star trek?
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was mentioned in the replies. I, personally, can't decide between that and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The latter has no business being as good as it is for the 6th film in a franchise, and so little of it is rehashed or re-used from the previous entries. If only franchises would be that original and daring in their sequels nowadays, instead of playing everything so safe and formulaic.

Did you just imply that Aliens was better than Alien? Can someone show this gentleman the door, please?
I don’t think it’s offside to suggest Aliens is superior to Alien.

Godfather 2 is the Undisputed Champ here. Not everyone's cup of tea, i get it. But it's one of the better films to come out of Hollywood ever.

Aliens, T2, Dark Knight, Last Crusade, Empire Strikes Back, and Xmen 2 are personal favorites of mine.

Still working on why Sister act 2 made the list over any star trek and about 1000 other sequels out there

Other: Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey

Bogus Journey was a terrible sequel/movie..
I only remember a single laugh from it (and forgive me if I don't quote it verbatim, it's been a long time)
They're taken as prisoners, and ordered in to 'the iron maiden'.. so they're stoked and respond 'excellent.'
Then their captor finishes his instruction, 'execute them'.
Their deflated response: 'bogus'.

(ps- I thought Last Crusade was a strong Indiana Jones' sequel.)

Agreed on Rogue One. I'd also add, personally Return of the Jedi is such a drop in quality from Empire, I don't think it belongs in the poll.

Surprised to only see the Dark Knight mentioned once. It was definitely one of the better sequels ever produced.
While I do agree it's a great movie, I feel it's a tad overrated. While the Joker is a great villain I started to feel that he was becoming OP as the movie went on. And while I liked the portrayal of Harvey Dent, he would not continue into the next movie, so he kinda felt cut short to me.

I agree Return of the Jedi is a significant drop in quality compared to Empire, but I can see some people still choosing it because of the Vader redemption/Throne room stuff.

The reason why I can't choose Empire is that the rest of the movie franchise, the prequels and sequels have done such a poor job that it just makes it stand out even more. Empire brought depth to Star Wars, but George Lucas, and later Disney drained the pool.

I don't even care about how the other Disney plus is doing or how good it is. Bury Star Wars, bring it back 30 years from now when I'm dead haha. (Though if a video game is good, I might check it out)

Aliens ramps up the spectacle, but it's actually a very mediocre movie.

I respect him, but honestly James Cameron movies are usually kind of dumb.

Godfather Part 2 and Empire Strikes Back for me. Love Bladerunner 2049 also, but it can't compare to the aforementioned IMO.

I guess the The Dark Knight hasn't aged well. No one even mentioned it.
