There was a famous thread in the Asylum a lot like a certain thread on this site, about how it was impossible for them to come back and make the playoffs. I am not to proud to admit I shed a tear when they clinched a spot, and ended up in the 6th seed. Too bad it ended in a sweep to Vancouver, but I believe all those things laid the foundation for the Cup season.
For sure, but now that I think about it, wasn’t that 09?

Pretty surprised that I couldn’t find an official recap link for the clincher vs Columbus but this one is pretty good. It’s hard to believe this game was a little short of 12 years ago!

was So.Ill, now SoCA
That already mentioned comeback in Boston, was the first I'd thought of. I'd also like to mention Tarasenko's debut. I remember being so thrilled over his 2 goals, & felt at that time a hope of actually someday winning the Cup with that guy.

I was at this game - loudest I’ve ever heard it - I think even louder than when Maroon scored the double OT goal against Dallas (I was also at that game)

No way on it being louder, that’s one of those moments where every single Blues fan went insane (in a good way) at the same time no matter where they were.

Funny you mention the 2OT winner because they showed that Bishop was the Blues backup at the time! That comeback/win was extra special because it marked the end of the darkest years in Blues history. Until then they missed the playoffs for the previous 4-5 years after almost 30 straight years of making it. Then sold the team and shipped Pronger for Brewer, with Macinnis retiring during that full year lockout. Bottom 5 attendance and a full on re-build.

....oh and then the franchise’s only 1st overall pick ever gets knocked out for the season with an ACL injury driving a golf cart!!! Then gets traded just 3 years after getting picked

Backes with the Gordie Howe hat trick (unfortunately the highlights don't show everything).

Backes is one of my all time favorite Blue, but man, he just couldn’t fight. Played a heavy game, could score, but just couldn’t fight.

I remember this like last week.

All I can say dirty muricans.

Backes definitely played on the edge. Had some borderline dirty hits over the years. Still one of my favorite all time blues. But man, he just couldn’t fight to save his life.

You have to give Backes a lot of credit for fighting Benn, a tough customer, when Backes wasn't a skilled fighter. It's a leadership quality I like in a captain. We didn't see it with Petro and won't see it with O'Reilly.

I suppose that’s why players apparently requested a player like Clifford to be acquired.

Reminds me of when Penguins wanted something similar and went after Reaves, although they later moved him to facilitate other roster moves.

I was this game and basically looking right over O’Reilly’s shoulder as he shot that. Epic.

Since we’re talking O’Reilly OT winners...Chris Kerber’s call here remains one of my favorite ever....

My favorite play from that game was Bouwmeester’s spinorama assist to Barbashev at the end of the period.
