His career didn't pan out the way he was projected? I get that there is a lot of what ifs around injuries and games missed, but with as much hype as he had coming in, he's exceeded it. If you ignore projections, he still won 3 cups and is currently 15th all time in scoring and has a realistic chance at getting top 5 by the time he retires.....I don't think anyone predicted him as the best ever.
Some people touted him as "the next one" but even if you don't compare him to Gretzky himself, he still could've had a more dominant prime. If you look at guys like McDavid and Jagr, that's what Crosby's career could've been as far as dominance over peers is concerned. After his art ross win in 2007, the sky was the limit for him. He was basically picking up where he left off in 08 before the ankle sprain, and he very well could've won quite a few art ross/hart trophies from 2011-14 if not for injuries. If things play out that way, he's more than likely decisively the 5th best player of all time without an argument. As of right now, he's in the conversation with some other players. I don't think he was a disappointment because a lot of things were out of his control, but I do think people expected him to rack up more accolades/awards when he was drafted. It doesn't mean he didn't have a great career, but he hasn't separated himself from that pack as much as he could've.

Malkin did have a better playoffs and a better Olympics than Crosby, and was 2nd in PPG.

But this is Crosby with the lead, as expected.
It's pretty obvious that Crosby's wrist injury bothered him down the stretch and into the playoffs that year.

Not disputing that, but we know Malkin had his own injury woes that year. Malkin missed 22 games, and his pace slowed considerably after his December injury took him out of the Art Ross race.

No it isn't.

Crosby's production for the next 4 seasons remained at this very same level (30-some goals/80-some points).

Yes, but pretty sure he played with a bad wrist for years.....getting by with rest and rehab in off-seasons before he finally decided surgery was best approach in 2021.

I provided a link you provided counting stats without context as scoring levels would go down and Crosby would score at an adjusted rate of 93-98 points over that time period.

Heck in 16-17 he led the NHL in goals but you already knew that right?

I look forward to your defending the Richard winner in 16-17 see you then.

Also you talk about Crosby having declining scoring those 4 years but fail to mention that he is the top scorer in that time period.

But sure don't let the actual facts get in the way of yet another false narrative.

Ah yes, the old 7-year injury grace period. -A common standard that is well-known and applied consistently.

Makes perfect sense.

Crosby was kind of good I guess. I’ll go with him.

So far all this list has taught me is what we already know, we were spoiled to have Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin all at once
We definitely were. I feel like players of malkins caliber are more common but Crosby and Ovechkin are very special players you don’t see very often. And we got two of them at the same time

Not only that, but you have McDavid come in halfway through their careers as well.
