I see that neither the Ducks team or the Kings team have gotten a lot of love so far, but I think both are great to listen to as a fan of neither team. Both call the game very evenly, are very insightful and not overly emotional.

I'll add another vote for the Avs team being the worst. What is that German word for being embarassed for someone else, fremdscham or something? Just far too over the top. I get that same feeling for the guy who used to do color for the Coyotes broadcast. He made it sound like the Coyotes were the best hockey team to ever grace the planet for every little saucer pass, even if Arizona was losing 6-0.

Not NHL, but I also really like the SVT team that does the WJC games. Way to go Sweden
:thumbu: The Canadian team (I think Miller and Ferraro?) is also really good. The Norwegian team sounds like they just pulled two guys out of a sports bar minutes before the game :help:

But Norway has all that oil money. 😉

That word is 'Schadenfreude'. Literally 'sadness-happiness'. It's like a resentment-based feeling of pleasure at some mishaps or suffering on the part of others. How does this apply to the Avalanche broadcast team though? I don't think it fits for the homeristic broadcasts. It's just sports and fandom.

For the former-Coyotes color guy, I think you're thinking of Tyson Nash. I thought he was pretty good, but not great.

I really like the Toronto TSN crew of Gord Miller and Mike Johnson. I don't catch as many American feeds as I used to years ago but Johnson has to be one of the best colour guys out there.

Toronto Sportsnet crew is pretty bad now, Cuthbert has lost his fastball and Craig Simpson has always ben abysmal.

No, it's not Scadenfreude, but Fremdschämen. I had to look it up, but apparently it's vicarious embarassment in English: Vicarious embarrassment - Wikipedia

For me, the Avs team and Tyson Nash, as you correctly point out, just make me cringe with this Fremdschämen. If the home fans like it, then that's all that matters, but I just find it so over the top that it distracts from the game.

Interesting. I've never heard of or thought about this in German or English. You learn something new everyday. I'm still trying to understand how this applies to those broadcasters, though. lol

As an Avs fan, it’s somewhat indulgent and satisfying that the Avs announcers are reviled so much. Is this so surprising when Bally’s was into regional sports coverage for so long? It’s like people aren’t aware that announcers like Harry Caray and Hawk Harrelson once existed for their fans and regional coverage. In high school/college, “know you’re audience” is a concept that makes sense. But suddenly in the NHL ecosystem, everyone wants pure journalism when it comes to regional coverage. Journalism doesn’t exist (or is scarce) in mainstream media and people are expecting pure journalism when it comes to regional coverage of NHL games? Do you not see how somewhat absurd this is given the world outside of the NHL ecosystem. Even Avs fans agree with everyone that their announcers are homers. In light of all of this, the real question is so what? And why does it matter? Maybe stop pretending like you can’t watch the other team’s coverage?

I agree with you. It doesn't bother me at all if regional coverage of a particular team is super biased. It's supposed to be. If I was an Avs fan I wouldn't want a broadcast that caters to opposing teams. I like my homer Steve Goldstein play by play for my Cats.

Man, I've only experienced the Avs team just recently and are they really that bad? Did they put away a bunch of the things people are complaining about here just because of Ovechkin's chase?

They were almost uncomfortably reverent of the Caps as a whole, with obvious emphasis on 8.

As an Avs fan, Moser and Rycroft are not good, but that’s more of their obnoxious nature and random things they say that make no sense.

They’re biased for sure, most regional broadcasts are. But in recent years Moser has gone out of his way to not sound like someone kicked his dog when the opposition scores, then a whole different group started complaining on his Twitter that he’s getting too excited for opposing goals.

Aside from my rant there, I really like the Dallas crew a lot.
