Idea to get rid of the All-Star Game. Repeat this cycle every 4 years:

1.
2026 - Olympics;

2.
2027 - World cup of hockey qualifiers
- 6 countries automatically qualify: Canada, U.S., Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, and have regional championships, best 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5:
- North American cup (Canada vs. U.S.),
- North European Cup (Finland versus Sweden),
- Eastern European Cup (Russia versus Chech Republic).
- The rest have a tournament for the final 2 spots; Second tier Teams like Mexico, Italy, Germany, Japan etc.. can play each other, hopefully with Media attention in the U.S;

3.
2028 - World Cup of hockey;

4.
2029 - Two 6 Nations tournaments to warm up for the Olympics - one for the 6 top teams in the world, another for the next 6 best teams in the world.

I’m curious to see what the repercussions of the 4-Nations will be terms of injured players returning to their teams and potentially impacting playoff contention / positioning.

I thought I read Brady Tkachuk told the Sens he will need to miss a few games to recover ..

The Bruins are furious about what happened with McAvoy and who knows if Marchand got injured / worn down and how that now impacts playoff aspirations …

One thing right off the top that you must consider is that the iihf and nhl barely agree on anything, and it's going to take alot of cooperation to do something like this.

It's not realistic.

Not sure if you are aware but the Allstar game in 2026 is scheduled to be at Islanders arena.

The owners can barely stomach a 2 week break for the Olympics. They would never agree to an annual mid season tournament unless those few games somehow put more money in their pockets than 2 weeks worth of nhl scheduling.

There needs to be an "other" team to account for players from Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, etc.

All star weekend is chill but they need to bring back the elimination shootout we had back in 2009 during the centennial season.

Why did the dummies in the NHL remove it? It was a great skills competition.

I preferred the 4 nation but I’m extremely glad none of our core guy were involved, I don’t care if they are pro I having such a intense rivalry mid season can be great for injuries or team chemistry… Also think the politics really help crank the importance and visibility, because before those fights and Trumps comments I had zero interest…

Would be kinda nice to see a Friendly tourney with KHL, Sweden, Finland, Swiss league all stars in a mini tournament. Yeah it wont be hated rivalries, but i always enjoyed those Red Army teams exhibition with nhl teams..

Two NHL all star teams (east and west)
1 KHL all stars
1 SHL all stars
1 Liiga all stars
1 Swiss/GER all stars

2 divisions of 3. 2 games each.. winner of each division plays in the final.

Yeah, you could have a Western European cup between Switzerland and Germany. Winner gets 7th see at World cup finals. Loser plays winner of the qualifying tournament of all other candidates for the 8th and final spot at the world cup finals the following year...

Slovakia hockey has gone down a lot. We'll see if Slaf and Nemec can save it. But they only have 7 active NHLers, and Tatar and Cernak are the only ones with more than 100 points. They can be in the other tournament and pkay Denmark, Norway, etc...

Most of the owners were probably having a heart attack when they saw three fights in the first ten seconds of that US/Canada game. Lol

It's gonna go like this:

Olympics 2026
All-star game 2027
World Cup of Hockey 2028
All-star game 2029

repeat.

Which I'm for, if the all-star game is once every two years, you might get some better performances and even if you don't, the event itself is mainly for kids and it's important that it cycles through different cities so kids can go and see the skills comps etc.

You can still have all star games during the years when best on best have fewer game. Example if U.S. were to play canada best 2 out of 3, there's still time for an all star game, and even the skills tournament the day before.
