Hughes - Hughes - The Hughes Brothers :bb:
Fleury - Fleury - The McFleury pairing
Johnson - Johnson - A Family Pairing

Oettinger
Sorokin
Ullmark

Kaprizov - McDavid - Nylander
B. Tkachuk - J. Hughes - Pastrnak

Heiskanen - Makar
Q. Hughes - Seider
Werenski - Dobson
Slavin

Vasilevskiy
Shesterkin
Wolf

Poor Mackinnon. He’s Esposito to Makar’s Orr.
Not at all, it just so happens that Makar is the best Dman in the world so you have to pass up on the 2nd best player in the world to take him.

There's McDavid to make up for no Mackinnon, but there is nobody on the back end like Makar. Mackinnon has been the better player for the last few years though. I'm not sure Esposito was ever considered better than Orr when he was in his prime like Makar is

Dostal ANA

This is not the "best possible players" and tries to take into account there's not enough minutes in the game so that everyone have 20min TOI, also tries to have enough balance in the forward roster so that mixing up lines is possible if these don't work out for whatever reason.

Barkov is the archetype of a #1C who can do it all, in this lineup he gets to play more offensive minutes and is the defensive backbone of that first line. All 3 can both make and finish plays.

2nd line is "1B" which is fed offensive minutes as much as possible - not that they need sheltering per se but they were put together for their offense and Matthews is the only guy who can really take draws.

3rd line is a shutdown line letting Lowry and Staal do what they have been doing for years with great success and relying on Stone to provide offense.

4th line is a 4th line in name only. J. Hughes provides some youthful energy for the old men. Depending on game situation / opponent / how lines are working, could move Barkov down to the "4th" to create the 4 Selkes shutdown line, making the 1st J.Hughes - McDavid - Kaprizov. Crosby, Barkov and Kopitar in the same line seems unfair though.

Started to run out of imagination with the defense and would've loved a Forsling type there and maybe a Lindell in the 3rd pair but it is what it is. Dobson is the sort of random pick here, trying to go for a more "defensive" D-man.

Goalies are goalies, Saros has been very dependable and while Shersterkin is not having a great season he has proven to be arguably the best playoff goalie of recent years and Dostal was a pretty random pick of who was available.

Honorable mentions MacKinnon, Hellebuyck, Kyle Connor, Josi and bunch of others, this was difficult and I spent way too much time on it.

You have to choose between Fox and Shesterkin though.

I’d like to see some cap compliant lineups.
If I were posting from work I’d totally make one

Cap Compliant Lineup is fun - to make it a little more challenging, I didn't use any ELCs.

Aleksei Protas (3.375) - Connor Mcdavid (12.5) - Kirill Marchenko (3.85)
Brad Marchand (6.125) - Sidney Crosby (8.7) - Alex Tuch (4.75)
Bobby McMann (1.35) - Matt Duchene (3) - Fabian Zetterlund (1.45)
Eric Robinson (950k) - Adam Lowry (3.25) - Kiefer Sherwood (1.5)

Victor Hedman (7.875) - Cale Makar (9)
Gustav Forsling (5.675) - Noah Dobson (4)
Jacob Middleton (2.45) - Jordan Spence (1.5)

Igor Shesterkin (5.667M)
Dustin Wolf (850k)

TOTAL CAP - 87.891M out of 88M
Teams Not Used: Anaheim, Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, Nashville, Philadelphia, Seattle, St Louis, Utah, Vegas

i’ll go arguably 2nd best player per team

B.Tkachuk Mackinnon M.Tkachuk
Connor Drasaitl Necas
Petterson Hischier Marner
Michkov Malkin Laine

Dobson Seider
Theodore Mcavoy
Doughty Faber

Vasilevsky
Shesterkin
Flames justifiably mudded by this entire thread (although tbh Wolf has a case of Vasi right now, and you go Point instead of Hischier/Malkin)

I think this exercise is more fun with prospects! Maximum 30 NHL game.

Danila Yurov (MIN) - Dalibor Dvorsky (STL) - Ivan Demidov (MTL)
Gabe Perreault (NYR) - Berkley Catton (SEA) - Ryan Leonard (WSH)
Danil But (UTA) - Cayden Lindstrom (CBJ) - Beckett Sennecke (ANA)
Isak Rosen (BUF) - Brad Lambert (WPG) - Easton Cowan (TOR)
Matthew Savoie (EDM)

Alexander Nikishin (CAR) - Artem Levshunov (CHI)
Anton Silayev (NJ) - Axel Sandin Pelikka (DET)
Lian Bichsel (DAL) - Zayne Parekh (CGY)
Carter Yakemchuk (OTT)

Yaroslav Askarov (SJ)
Igor Nabokov (COL)
Joel Blomqvist (PIT)
Probably the only one where a SEA player will show up, so yippee for that

Lmfao that Barkov - Crosby - Stone line would be just plain stupid to watch.

Nobody is scoring on it ever.

Crosby leads all forwards in even strength goals against this season. He leads all forwards in even strength goals against the last 2 seasons. He leads all forwards in even strength goals against the last 3 seasons.

MacKinnon and Rantanen? You have two players on the same team there. Oh, wait...

I guess there already was thread like this and if so I am sorry but i had that idea to make the best 23 MEN LINE-UP (13F, 7D, 3G) while picking only ONE PLAYER PER TEAM while also logically you must EXCLUDE NINE TEAMS and not pick any player from their rosters. Basically NHL All-Star picks but make them one line-up and cut some.
Sounds pretty easy but turned out to be quite challenging especially when you need to skip some of the best players in the league.

My attempt:

Kaprizov-McDavid-Kucherov
Hughes-Crosby-Pastrnak
Aho-Eichel-Marner
Stutzle-Barkov-Kempe
Konecny

Hughes-Fox
Josi-Makar
Werenski-Heiskanen
Dahlin

Hellebuyck, Sorokin, Dostal

exclude: DET, MTL, WSH, CHI, SJS, SEA, STL, CGY, UTA

(not ideal and had hard time deciding some teams and players - Ovi/Colorado..)
Lets make a team from the 4 of the teams you excluded. One game I'd put my Money on this team because guys are used to playing together

Caulfield-Suzuki-Laine
Raymond- Larkin -Debrincat
Ovi- strome- wilson
Huberdeau-Kadri-Kane

Hutson-Seider
Chychrun- Carlson
Weagar _andersson

Thompson
Wolf

extras PLD, M Matheson and Montembault

Ovechkin-McDavid-Rantanen
M. Tkachuk-MacKinnon-Kucherov
J.Hughes-Crosby-Kaprisov
B. Tkachuk-Kopitar-Marner

Q. Hughes-Fox
Heiskanen-McAvoy
Werenski-Josi

Hellebuyck
Hill

Kaprisov (MIN) - McDavid (EDM) - Kucherov (TBL)
M Tkachuk (FLA) - Matthews (TOR) - Rantanen (CAR)
Forsberg (NSH) - J Hughes (NJD) - Bedard (CHI)
Suzuki (MTL) - Crosby (PIT) - Eichel (VGK)

Q Hughes (VAN) - Makar (COL)
Heiskenan (DAL) - Fox (NYR)
Werenski (CBJ) - McAvoy (BOS)

Hellebyuck (WPG)
Thompson (WSH)

I envision the Crosby line as a hard matchup line, with 3 all-offense lines above them to take on varying levels of competition. I originally had Mark Stone as his right winger, but I figured a right-shooting center could fulfill that role and offer the coach some lineup versatility.
