Hey. Just recently bought a new pair of skates, Bauer Vapor X400 Inline Skates (First time playing roller in about 5 years) They came with 76a soft. Figured that would be good. First game with them my back wheel cracked in half. I weight about 205-210. Never had a wheel crack like that before. What wheels would you recommend. I'm sure my Bauer skates didn't come with the best type of wheels. All they say is Soft Hi-Low Court on them.

I'm playing on a inline court. Not outside. Thanks

I weigh just about the same and use Rink Rat Hornet Splits and/or Labeda Addiction. It's tough to tell but I think in favor the RRs. I've used both hardness ratings and wasn't really affected by it. Another similarly-heavy guy on my team slipped all over the place with the softer rating, though you'd figure it'd be the other way around.

Sadly that's what I was trying to get at - your results may vary. I don't mind 76A but a teammate of mine can't handle them. We're comparable in body weight, but we skate very differently (I'm more aggressive, probably dig in harder). That could have something to do with it.

You should definitely get some 78A wheels, especially if you're an aggressive skater. You'll be faster with harder wheels and since you weigh 205+ you'll still get plenty of grip on them.

If you were like 180 or so I'd say it would personal preference but you're in the range where you're pretty much too heavy for 76A.

+1 to this I'd look at picking up a set of one of the following for Sport Court:

  • Revision Steel Wheels
  • Labeda Addiction Orange Wheels
  • Rink Rat Identity Split, Conflict or Krysis in a 78a durometer
  • If you want to go over harder for more speed (and possibly more durability) you could also try the Rink Rat World Cup Pro All-Purpose wheels with the 82a durometer.

Those are all high performance dual durometer wheels and they aren't cheap. There are single pour wheels that will work, but they won't provide the same performance. For wood or smooth cement I'd go with the cheaper single pour wheels, but if you want the best performance for Sport Court then the more expensive multi-pour wheels will provide that.
