What are the best performances from individual players you've seen?

For me, one that sticks out is Sundin's six point game against the Florida Panthers in 2006 (four goals, two primary assists)...

I remember watching the third period of McDavid's vaunted Game Seven against LA in 2022. I didn't see the whole game. I did see Ovechkin play like a man possessed in the '09 playoffs against PIT (including his hattrick in Game Two). I'm not sure what the best game I've seen from Crosby or Jagr is. The first game I can remember watching is Gretzky's hattrick game against TOR, which was Game Seven of the '93 playoffs. He calls that the best game of his career.

Gretzky went wild in this one, with 5 goals and 1 assist, and another "probably" goal that the ref lost sight of and blew the whistle on (still no video replay at this time). Wayne had 13 shots on net. (Dino Ciccarelli, amazingly, scored twice and went -6.)

Known as "the Messier game". Oilers were down 2-1 in this series when Messier took Dirk Graham's head into his own elbows. Mess ran roughshod over the Hawks, scoring 2 and adding 2 helpers. This turned the series in Edmonton's favor. They quickly won it, and then the Cup.

This is the McDavid one the OP mentioned. I have rarely seen a guy single-handedly dominate a game like this, and Connor got just the one clinching goal to show for it. But he was an incredible force.

I am assuming the OP is talking about just seeing it on TV and such. I might have to nominate Richter's performance in Game 3 of the 1996 World Cup. If you watch that game the saves he made were criminal. Acrobatic, highway robbery, and the only two goals put past him he was screened on both of them. This is an example of being in the "zone". I am not sure about a player so much, but I doubt you can find a game a goalie played better with the stakes as high as they were.

game 5 and game 6 of the canucks/vegas series in the third round (second if you don’t the play-in) of the 2020 playoffs

down 3-1 in the series, rookie goalie with eight mop-up minutes of playoff hockey to his name is called into the lineup as an injury replacement for a guy who probably should have been a vezina finalist that year (he finished fourth), summarily rattles off a 2-1 win (outshot by 26) followed by a 48 save shutout, forcing game 7.

he kept game 7 scoreless through 2/3 of the third period, too, before giving up one single goal (he was outshot by 20). they ended up scoring two empty netters to make it a 3-0 loss.

i saw most of mclean and all of luongo and honestly that was the greatest playoff goaltending i’d ever seen in a canucks uniform.

Gees, there's a ton. So many performances from Mario and Jagr that I can't mention them. Obvious the NY Eve game where Lemieux scored the cycle. Jagr vs. Hawks in Cup Finals. Lindros had a monster performance vs. the Rangers in the Semis... and Richter's World Cup performance. Believe it or not, Keith Primeau had some monster performances during a Flyers playoff run. Dougie Gilmour during the Leafs run in 1992-93 and Bure's debut plus other games. Another great one was Eric Desjardins in Game 2 vs. LA in 1992-93 Cup. Gretz and Mario All-Star performances... Pelle Lindbergh had some amazing games... Hasek.
