This is good and the Jets are 4 reel, but the Stairs aint goin away and they got some good ole US jam. Jets will need to pretty much win out between now and the playoffs to hold off the Stairs... They are gunning for #1 with games in hand.
The Dallis Stairs who just lost to the Duchs?

Edit: We also lost to the Ducks - twice...but one was on a b2b and the other was just an OTL during migration.

It's really impressive how the Jets continue to outskate their opponents. They have that higher gear that teams can not match, especially the Eastern teams.

PP2 with the heroics, but a good 4 line effort, on a night where the top line didn't really do much.

I wonder how much Kupari's recent play is affecting Chevy's view at the center position. He seems to be getting more confident with the opportunities he's getting.

I like that Ford kid, when he's wheeling he looks good out there on the forecheck. I didn't follow the matchups too closely but there's not really a weak line on Carolina and he looked sharp.

Samberg and Pionk are just dominating games of late.

I like the way the team played in front of Comrie. Breakdowns happen, but he saw the majority of shots.
Which makes saves easier. As an aside what do you figure he's on? The post game interview I was commenting on how much faster he talks than everyone else, reminded me of Kramer in his coffee addiction episode.

One more to go and that's a great way to head into a period of rest. To recharge for the final push.

I know it's insignificant beyond the symbolism, and we often mock other teams for having theirs, but I'd love to see this Jets team earn a banner for their regular season efforts, something no other NHL Jets team has ever done.

A testament to how good they have been.

Keep on rolling.

Happy birthday Mac.

3 bad turnovers in the first 2 minutes had me a little concerned, but Comrie was up to the job and Jets righted the ship.

Were Scheif and Connor suffering from the flu? Strange that PP2 started the first 2 penalties. They each had a couple of good shifts but were mostly invisible. Other lines picked up the slack.

Comrie was really good. Full value for the SO. He made it look easy by being in the right positions all game.

Jesus, when will the Caps finally catch up on games played? Feel like we’ll be waiting until after our Game 82 before we find out if we’re legit 1st.

It doesn't have to take that long - if they would just lose to someone other than us a little more often.

Underrated positive about tonight:

The team played well in front of Comrie vs calgary, then tonight they play great with him in net against a dangerous team and he gets a shutout. Comrie's confidence grows, and the teams confidence in him grows as well :)

Comrie is now at a very respectable .912 save % for the season. He has been a really solid, steady, sneaky competitive back up that has given his team a shot to win pretty much every game he has started in.

I know on the first PP opprotunity the reason the 2nd unit started was the Schiefele line had a really long shift and Schielele drew the penalty. I believe that might have been the case on the second PP as well as Vilaridi took the high stick right at the end of their shift.

The Jets are 10 points up and Dallas only has 2 games in hand, last time i checked you only get 2 points for a win . The Jets aren't scared of taking the Stairs either, they are all in pretty good shape.

We honestly might not see a season this good again it's been that good so far. I agree a banner for the best regular season team in the entire NHL for the Winnipeg Jets would be absolutely awesome.

IMHO Comrie is gifted with HD but he has control of it..With confidence in handling it in the net, he will project to a starting goalie….eeventualyy. One thing, he doesn’t have any Attention Deficits.

Hope he starts the next game..The plan seems to plug in Helly for a “keep fresh before the schedule break at the last game. Go Jets!

To me this is why we wanted a NHL team back , being entertained by a very good hockey team all winter long. Obviously i want to have a great playoffs too but it's a very long and grueling regular season and to be playing this well is absolutely fantastic. Go Jets Go.

I know I have overstated my new “the journey is the destination” chant but that photo actually captures the main reason. Those great Jets 1.0 teams could never get it done in the playoffs. Their prime version was trapped in a division vs the Prime Oiler dynasty which robbed that group of probably one or two deep runs. The payoff was never there in the playoffs yet it was so sad when that building came down because the hockey memories are about so much more than a cup, or a long playoff run. IF/when great things happen in a playoff run that is a cherry on top but it’s not the actual dessert, the real body of the work is a collection of all the games over the years. The long winters listening to the games on the radio, watching on tv, attending live on those special nights or crappy nights, watching with buddies or family, chatting with groups of people about the team……the highs and the lows and everything in between.

I finally made it home after waiting almost thirty minutes trying to get out of the Convention Centre parking garage. Congratulations to Eric Comrie for the shutout, it was well deserved as he made some awesome saves. El Nino had another great game, he was busy at both ends of the ice. My only complaint, other than the guy two seats down from me yelling at the top of his lungs all night, was the fact that the Jets need someone who can consistently win faceoffs. I kept looking at the scoreboard and it was ranging around 30-40% faceoff wins for Winnipeg tonight. They need to improve on that, as I certainly think they miss Adam Lowry in that role. Despite that, I give the game five "55's" out of 5...

The Prediction Contest for the game against the Long Island Iced Teas has been posted for your guesses. A big shout out to @SUX2BU who will be making the next GDT! We are looking forward to it! It's way past my bedtime, but I will see you all on Friday! Good night...

Ha, maybe I saw you there. It was stupid leaving the convention center.

Avs, Stars and Wild all lose tonight, the Jets have built themselves one hell of a cushion

The only team I'm a bit concerned about catching us at this point are the Stars. The other teams are too far back to make up the difference with the number of games left.

In soccer, the best team at the end of the regular season wins. Playoffs are for league promotion purposes, etc. Other tournaments are held, but everything is kept separate

Playoffs in North American pro sports are largely to drive revenue and keep fans engaged once their team is eliminated from the points race

I'm by no means saying that President's Trophy > Stanley Cup, but it's been really special to watch this team this year (and for large chunks of last year, too) and I've gotten immense enjoyment from them

Going to be a tough call for Chevy at the deadline. The team is really clicking and playing for each other. Do you want to bring in a big piece and potentially disrupt that? Id prefer just solid depth pieces that can step in if needed at this point.

3 bad turnovers in the first 2 minutes had me a little concerned, but Comrie was up to the job and Jets righted the ship.

Comrie was really good. Full value for the SO. He made it look easy by being in the right positions all game.

The Jets top line was out for over a minute and drew the 1st pp. That was why the second unit started. They were also out for a bit before the second pp.

Since like @macmaroon I was stuck trying to leave a parking lot for ages I didn't have time to do any decent writeup:

Comrie played a real good and steady game, well deserved SO. Team really battled hard to get him it at the end.

Quiet night for the top pairing which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Thought DeMelo wasn't as good on Wall as he normally is but the Canes have a well organized team that forechecks well. JoMo wasn't really able to get his offense going tonight but was solid defensively.

Pionk continues to show a cannon of a shot and played his usual tenacious game. Snerg was steady.

Stanley and Miller: Liked Miller's play much more tonight. He was making quicker reads and wasn't skating himself into trouble with the puck like he had been the past few. Stanley outside of a couple dumb decisions with the puck is playing good hockey. He's back to being quieter in his positioning and it's helping to mitigate against faster players. Happy with his play.

Top line has gone a bit cold lately which isn't that unexpected as they were scorching hot for a couple weeks there. They'll get it going again but nice to have the depth to pick up the slack.

Second line is playing their best hockey of the year, heck maybe the past two years. All three players are in sync and the puck and play support is there as is the precision passing. They also still don't give up much of anything defensively. I think they got mostly Aho last night and didn't give him anything.

Third line: Nino had a very involved game and it was good to see Kupari break through with a goal. They have been uneven since Lowry went down but were pretty solid tonight.

Fourth line continues to play well. Ford is bringing good speed to the line. Gus has continued his quiet sound positional play and Iafallo just does what he does.

Couldn't agree more. :thumbu: As much as i want to see the Winnipeg Jets win a Cup and for us longtime Jets fans i want it for Dale just as much. Like you say we might have already won a Cup if Jamie Macoun wasn't such a dirty bastard . But I'm absolutely loving this season right now.

even the Stars are close to being too far back. I mean give them wins in the games they have in hand and we're still 6 points up on them. That's a pretty big margin at this stage of the season. It's WELL past US Thanksgiving! lol...

I mean they could still catch us. But assuming the Jets don't crap the bed too badly, 6 points is a tough margin to gain.
