Best Hockey City on Earth?

You mean players who were born in those cities or grew up with a hockey club from those cities? If you mean those players who were born in those cities, then I would choose Kladno in Czech republic

What if all the cities had a playoff to decide who represents?

Yeah - exactly. Like a little league world series.

Vancouver might look something like:

Lucic - Nugent-Hopkins - Kobasew
Kane - Santorelli - Yip
Ladd - Renhart - Johansen
Seabrook - Hannan
Hunt - Dillon

Price
LaBarbara

Born/raised in the cities. Montreal could only use Montreal boys. Helsinki, Helsinki boys, etc.

You could field a very good Team USA made of players from only the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

If the year was around 2003 you would be hard to find anything better per capita than Örnsköldsvik and surrounding villages. From around 40.000 people and only picking players who became regular NHL:ers born about 1970-80:
Forsberg
Näslund
Sundström
Sedin x 2
H Jonsson
Enström
Timander
Svartvadet

And great SHL-players (who many have a couple of NHL-games and/or where nationalplayers):
Salomonsson
Öhman
Öberg
HÃ¥llberg
Nordgren
Wernblom
T Pettersson
Söderberg
O Hedman
Hedin

A lot of USA members are from Minnesota. Specifically Minneapolis. It could work out I guess. Would be difficult to fill an entire roster though for some countries.

Pretty much everyone's from Riga in the Latvian national team.

If all the countries had to pick only 1 city to represent them, we wouldn't be far from being contenders.

I know a guy who plays for Modo, the tales of Örnsköldsvik are mythic.

Not totally clear on what being "from a city" means in the context, but I'll assume it means being born and raised in the city (or its suburbs, eg: Markham, Richmond Hill, Etobicoke, Vaughan) and not "general area" cities (eg: Brampton [Nash] or Oakville [Tavares]) for this exercise:

Team Toronto:

Andrew Cogliano| Chris Kelly| Jeff Skinner

HM: Eddie Pasquale, JP Anderson, Adam Dennis (if ones that have played for other countries can be included).

Goalies clearly suck, and the blueline is very shallow, but the offense is still there. At least in NHL terms, Toronto still takes the cake, IMO.

Good job Edmonton, except without Iginla they lose nearly a third of their overall points.

Could be worse. You could be Kladno and lose over half your active points from 1 player. ;)

On a smaller scale.. Bonavista, Newfoundland.

Population: 3,764

Produced guys like the Ryder brothers, Adam Pardy, Matt Bragg and a few other good junior players that most wouldn't recognize. It's not much, but it's still pretty remarkable given their tiny population.
