System goalie

I don't watch enough goalies to know, but over the last 3 years, Quick has given up so few 'soft' goals, that i find it very hard to believe that they are goalies out there giving up even less

I don't get it. He doesn't let in soft goals and saves all the sure goals heroically. So what are the goals he lets in at a higher proportion than 26 other NHL goalies??

With no research, im going to say the fact that he sees a higher shorthanded shots to even strength shots ratio then any other goalie hurts his stats a lot

So other than the arguments I made in the first 2 posts the only new argument made is that he lets in less soft goals BUT also saves a whole bunch of shots no one else would. A goal counts the same irrespective of how many other goalies would save it. So I presume he lets in a much higher proportion of medium difficulty shots (which are probably the majority). Who does this matter unless you are more concerned with your goalie not letting in embarrassing shots and making the highlight reel than making more saves/shot?

Stats are stats. He does not play his save %. His play averages to his save %.
This is the heart of him being inconsistent. Some games lower his save %.
The games that matter usually increase his save %.

See this is where you miss out on
That means that, on average, after 9 shots, Quick has a 15% chance of making the next save and Rask had a 30%
No it does not. What is the score? What part of the season is it? Who is the shooter?

What do these things matter to? The humans playing in front of him.
sure a goal is a -1 .... but another -1 in a game you already lost doesn't matter. And another -1 in a game you end up winning does not matter. Momentum changes at important moments matter. Stepping up when things get harder matter. None of that is shown in save%.

Yes, other than the arguments for why Quick is one of the greatest goalies in the world, there are not many arguments for why Quick is one of the greatest goalies in the world. Happy?

Uh oh Quick has his first playoff stinker... now his amazing (and relatively small) playoff sample size has been diluted. what ground will you stand on now?

yesterday's game mattered...

Relative to what? He's got a ton.

It's a stinker, that's all it is. Ever seen a famous Quick bounceback game?

.940 over last two years in the playoffs. That's what I'll stand on.

I'm also not making excuses but personally I think he got his head scrambled by M. Brown/Voynov.

I absolutely hate when fans root for a player to fail so they can say "i told you so."

Quick just needs to be consistent in his game. He's too sloppy. It's a bad habit creeping into his game.

Who cares.

Quick is the first stability in net the Kings have had in DECADES.

Kings fans should be happy with that.

Honestly I think some of you people would be happy going back to the Kings being a Laughingstock of the NHL.

I think I've already won. Quick being the undisputed best goalie is based on nothing more than assumptions and feelings without consideration of the variables actually at play. I think this thread demonstrates that.

A true fan sees the strengths and weaknesses of their team. Just keep thinking Quick is the be all end all, cuz he better be damn good now, his playing style/strengths are not conducive nor sustainable for a long career.

I personally think Fukufuji or Ersberg would have worked out better long term, IMHO. And we all know Bernier was never given a fair shot.

Except for, you know, all the evidence presented in this thread, evidence you brought up in the OP.

Personally I don't think it's totally undisputed because 1. there are a ton of great goalies and 2. several different goalies rock at several different metrics, but it's not really that much of a stretch to see why people think he's the best when he comes through in the clutch. That's fact, not a myth.

As far as the longevity, feel free to worry, but if you're predicting the end of the guy's career, you'll be right at some point, just like the Mayans. Congrats.

Meanwhile Quick will go down in history as the greatest Kings goalie ever, and have his jersey in the rafters some day.

Congrats you predicted that an althete won't play his entire life, and people argue symantics all the time. With stats to back up said symantics.

This thread is fu3#%ing stupid.

congrats on the victory, here is your prize

IMHO Quick is the best goaltender in the League, and being an LAK fan I would not be honest to not recognize my own biases here. But at the same time, must acknowledge that Rask and Price are not far back. Price seems to have overcome the fact that he has choked in the playoffs these past years and Rusk is a large part of the reason why the Bruins are starting favorites in these series.

My two cents...

I think there's a few more capable of breaking that list. For example, Lundqvist for longevity and consistency--NYR have known what they're getting with him for a nearly a decade which is great for a goalie in modern times. Most of the debate between him and Quick has to do with that--do you go with the long term consistent guy, or the guy with the insane peak? Do you go with Brodeur/Roy or do you go with Hasek? It's just philosophical.

He's the best ****ing goalie in the universe. Hands down.

Next question.

Love the avatar! I know how much you loved having your rams avi, but I guess you just got too tired of all the whining eh?

In regards to Quick, I don't know if he's the best, but at the same time, I wouldn't trade him for any other goalie in the league, so, that's saying something I guess...

Thanks! The Rams will soon return will keep this one as long as Hayward is talking. :)
