Who will go down as 'The Best Finnish NHL Goalie Ever'?

Mikka Kiprusoff

Tuuka Rask

Pekka Rinne

Kipper best peak and prime.... Just didn't play as long.

In 8 full seasons his Vezina finishes were: 1,2,3,5,7,8,8

Rask 1,2,5,7,7 over 9 full seasons

I think it's hard to say Kipper deserved 5th and 8th place finishes in '08 and '09 though. His numbers were below average. I think GMs were valuing his workload over his actual performance.

You can make a case for each of those 3. But my snap reaction was Kipper. Man, he was unreal for a good long time there in CGY.

could be, but I think having 7 seasons of 70+GP carries a lot of weight overall

I wouldn't use Vezina finishes as a measuring stick for two reasons.
Rask had Tim Thomas to contend with, who probably had the best peak since Hasek. He actually earned the starting goalie nod between two of Thomas's Vezina all-time great seasons. For my money that's impressive - but also limited his accomplishments.
The other problem with Vezina nods is that Boston manages their starts as they know they'll make the playoffs and want their starting goalie fresh. Hard to win the Vezina when they're not riding you like a rented mule. Same thing happened with Thomas back in the day as a few more starts he would've won The Hart also.

Like The Flames, loved Kipper, Flames have three of the most under-rated players of all-time in him, Kent Nilsson and Theo Fleury. and although not my choice, understand why people vote for him. Rinne shouldn't be an option.

I would have to go with Kipprusoff. When he was at his best he was one of the most dominating and unbeatable goalies I have seen.

For better or worse, his ability to steal wins for his team is why Kipper was the biggest reason the Flames delayed their rebuild for so long.

Easily Kipper. By far one of the biggest thorn of a flame player just by how good he was at goaltending.

First of all, I'm biased but I think the numbers still pull to Kiprusoff's favour.

Rask started 70 or more games (well, he started 70) once in his whole career.
Yeah, he had to play behind Thomas for a while, but he's never started more than 65 games otherwise in a season.

Kiprusoff was both a regular season workhorse pulling 7 consecutive seasons of 70+ starts (including consecutive 74 start seasons followed by two consecutive 76 start seasons) against teams like the Ducks, Red Wings, Canucks, Blackhawks on the regular.

Rask is a close second but I think Kiprusoff takes the prime easily and the career is very close considering the quality of team they played behind. Regehr and Phaneuf were Calgary's best defencemen and they never had an elite shutdown centre, while Rask had the benefit of Chara and Bergeron in front of him.
