Well, he's actually not our best player. We have a lot of good players, and he's up there. But nothing hangs on him. Different from previous seasons. This Rangers team is probably the best in the world right now, but this board doesn't understand it. They'll win the cup.

While I agree with you that we are better than some of the perennial nay sayers (the ones who would have had us trade half the roster at the deadline for draft picks) believe we are, you are taking it a bit too far in the other direction.

I know that this is a bit against the norm, but I think I would prefer to play Pitt than Columbus in the next round.

If Columbus wins the next 2, they are going into the next series flying high. Pitt is not the most mean team in the league so the series has not taken as much a phyisical toll on the Blue Jackets

Where as the Columbus team is (I believe) one of the top five biggest teams in the league.

I'm not sure I would want to play Columbus and if we are lucky enough to advance to the ECF then Boston (who I think will beat Montreal in 5 or 6)

The Pens will not be that much of a physical match up.

Nothing is easy, but some teams make life harder than others.

I think Columbus physically would wear the Rangers down and make us ripe for a short series against the Bruins.

This. Both Columbus and Pittsburgh are good teams. Why 'hope' for one of them. The chips will fall as they may, deal with whoever you are playing currently.
Not really sure why the Rangers fanbase as a whole, is always on the lookout for the chips falling correctly with regards to other teams. Best scenario for what MIGHT happen IF....

Shouldn't a strong team just be able to win and only concern themselves with themselves and not hope for breaks of what is happening for other teams?

Yeah, I'm not looking at any possible match ups. I'm not convinced the Rangers are going to close it out against the Flyers. Let's just beat Philly first.

We are not that kind of team.

I am looking forward to the Rangers playing the Sharks in the finals. This way we can get back at them for that dirty hit on Nash!

No, but it always looks weird to me when the Rangers are decried at a "true" contender and yet always seem to need to rely on breaks that happen elsewhere.

Things breaking the right way is a large part of "Anything Can Happen®"

So because a handful of posters here are wishing for a favorable match-up that is proof that this team isn't good enough to beat whoever they're dealt?

That's an admission from that select group about how they feel about the team and is in no way related to the opinions of everyone here or the team itself.

This isn't an anything can happen team.

How is it the fan base as a whole?

Glad to know there are a select few here who speak for all of us.

Canuck fan here.

Absolutely loving the NYR style of play. I'm not counting chickens yet but I hope I can watch them all the way to lifting the trophy.

Oh and your fans are great in the arena. That is what a hockey crowd should sound like.

All the best from sunny Scotland! :)

On the face of it I agree but in the SC you can't get away from the format of best of 7.

If you are unlucky enough to face 3 or 4 hard/physical teams in a row, sure you can beat them, hopefully in 4 but 4 games against Boston can leave you pretty beat up. Especially if you have just played 6/7 games against Philly.

I speak from the Canuck experience where there is no doubt Vancouver was the best team in the competition but they limped into the finals suffering injuries and call offs to key players, beat up in previous rounds with the Sharks, Preds and Chicago. Then Boston worked them over good style.

In my opinion, we can't beat Boston so if that ends up happening, it's all over. We probably would lose to Pitt as well, but we definitely CAN beat them.

way to have faith.

we can beat anyone.

we've beaten everyone.

we owned the Bruins for years, even while they were dominant till last season.

hell, the last game we played them, we destroyed them for about 35 mins, couldnt score and the wheels fell off.

play the series like they did the first 35 mins of that game, we'd beat them.

any team can beat any team. theres no givens.

I think montreal beats the bruins anyway. i dont like the way they match up against speed teams like the habs.

I get that. But a team that is well balanced should be able to play any style of hockey. Ottawa had that lesson taught to them when they were very highly skilled and took on the Tucker-led 'Leafs.

I dont know if MTL will beat them, but they will give Boston a huge run for their money with their skill level.

That is not really endorsing. And goes into the whole "anything can happen". The Rangers will probably loose but they CAN beat the Pens.

Skill is not the determining factor. An all-skill team rarely wins. Boston, for their braun, are also highly skilled.

There is a difference between wanting a favorable match up and needing one to win. And why would fans not want a favorable match up?

I doubt there was a Ranger fan in existence who wasn't elated to see Pitt get upset by Washington in '94.

Your gripes get more bizarre as the season goes on.

worst case scenario - we beat the Flyers in 7, then somehow beat the Pens in round 2, then get crushed by Boston of Montreal in the ECF, lose our 1st rounder to Tampa.
