Which American goalie do you think have the best case to join the HHOF.

Connor Hellebuyck, arguably the best regular season goalie since Martin Brodeur

Jonathan Quick and his impressive playoffs resume of 2 Stanley Cups (as a starter) and Conn Smythe winning campaign.

It can be argued that Quick was the best playoff goalie of the last 20 years. For about a 5 year stretch, he terrified opponents.
This, at his peak Quick was dominant where it matters, playoffs. Absolutely nobody is afraid of Hellebuyck come playoff time.

To answer the OP's question, the guy with 3 cups and a Smythe deserves the HHOF more

Assuming Hellebuyck wins the Vezina this year he is a no-doubt 100% lock.

Quick will probably get in eventually but I don't love putting a guy with no Vezina in the hall. Just for a reference, here's Quick compared to a guy that does not really get any HoF consideration at all:

Quick - 403 wins, career .911, 2 time Vezina finalist, Smythe, 3 Cups, .921 playoff sv%, ~11 years as a starter
Holtby - 299 wins, career .915, 2 time Vezina finalist, 1 time Vezina winner, 1 Cup, .926 playoff sv%, regular season wins in a single season record, ~7 years as a starter

I think Quick's resume is better, but not that much better.

Quick easily. Quick has won when it’s mattered most, twice. Hellebuyck has wilted every time the pressure has turned up. I’d be shocked if Hellebuyck made it into the hall of fame. I feel like there has to be something more than being a really good regular season goalie. I think his failures in the post season should disqualify him lol. However judging by the comments on here the bar for entry seems lower than I’d like. Lundqvist took the Rangers to SCF with Stepan as their center. Where has Hellebuyck taken the jets besides disappointment

Hellebuyck's not done yet.

Quick's technically not done yet, either, but Hellebuyck's especially not done yet.
Six top five Vezina seasons. Soon to be three wins. I'd actually say from a HHOF he's done.

But yeah, it's amazing that he's only 31. His resume needs some playoff success in the worst way. If he retired today he's a HOFer. But he could add so much to his legacy even if he just made the finals.

There was a legacy thread on the poll forum about how a Stanley Cup win would affect the legacy of a number of players. I'd argue that no one stands to gain as much as Hellebuyck in that regard.

Yeah I think Hellebuyck has to simply not die in this year's playoffs to be a lock

If he has a choke-worthy year, it's questionable, but still tough to keep him out on compiling regular season stats alone.

Quick has some rough regular seasons but the Hall is built strongly on narrative and he's got a TON of it

Really?

You don't think THREE cups, a Conn Smythe, and over 100 more freaking wins is a big deal?

Come on. I love Hellebuyck but that is selling Quick extremely short, especially given his legacy isn't even built on regular seasons.

And to add so far the winningest american goalie with the most shutouts. Let's let Connor Hellebuyck pass that first even, since that's "just" compiling stuff on a good team. (and he should unless he just stalls out).

He had 2 bad series in the last 2 years but I would hardly blame Hellebyuck for all of the Jets playoff problems, not sure why his play should "disqualify" him from the HHOF. He played really well in 17-18 and 19-20. He definitely still has more to prove in the playoffs though.

Yeah well it’s still mediocre

Playoff success for me in relation to the hall is generally a "you have it your don't" type thing and not winning a Vezina is a massive hole in Quick's resume that for me pushes him down to the top of the tier of "should probably get in once there's a bad Hall year"
