I think it all comes back to the music...your favourite band names are probably your favourite bands. A band could choose the silliest, most ridiculous sounding name, but if the music's good, then the name will be cool.

IMO, anyone who can't see the bias of an idiot. Black Sabbath is my favorite band, and though I think it's a killer name (taken from a horror movie title, for a band creating what would become heavy metal) I didn't list it. Not many of my favorite bands have what I'd consider "great names of all time".

That said, Slayer is a great metal band name too.
