Brian O'Neill dealt to NJ for....bag of pucks I'm assuming.

UPDATE: Conditional 7th if he plays/re-signs. Likely nothing if neither happens.

***As I said, Bag of pucks***

He struggled with health and consistency at the lower levels. Now he's going to have to make it in the NHL.

Good luck with that.

When Halak comes back, its possible we get Berube back…

NYI will put Berube on waivers. We will then have the option to claim him and send him directly to Ontario if no one else claims him.

I think that's how it works? Paging Holden...

I think you need to keep him on the NHL roster for a certain amount of time before you can send him down.

The Isles can put Berube on waivers with the purpose of assigning him to their farm team. If the Kings submit a claim, they can directly send Berube to Ontario, as has been said.

I thought since we already lost him to waivers that when he came back around we could send him directly to the AHL?

We had this discussion about Poulin and TB. Yes, if the Kings get him they can send Berube down to the AHL. But if another team grabs Berube then he has to stay with big club or process happens again if that new team tries to send Berube down to AHL.

They must like the raw talent. He's shown flashes. But the road to the NHL is paved with the skeletons of inconsistent goaltenders.

Best of luck to him though. Seems like a standup dude and a good guy.

Correct.

Incorrect. Isles can waive him tomorrow.

This...just doesn't make sense. This never happens. Teams are breaking pattern on goalies. Not too mention Berube was far from the best goalie waived.

None of our goaltending prospects, including Berube, are anything special or even have good potential to become a solid NHL backup. They are hopefuls we have mainly for organization depth and stopgaps. It's clear we are going to draft or sign another soon. Can't say I would be broken up losing any current goaltending prospect we have.

Your vastly underrating Patrik Bartosak. All that guy has done is been great at every level he has played at.

I know you're high on him and I do agree with you that I underestimate him, but I don't think he reaches Jones' level. He has good size, but I don't see him getting up to journeyman, maybe decent backup.

So what can we expect from this guy? Some on our boards think he can be decent, others are saying awful. Greiss has looked terrible in preseason, and if Halak is down we may need him to step up big time. My guess is that he'll get lit up because of our amazing defense led by Brian "Norris" Strait.

Size is Bartosak's biggest weakness. He has very good reflexes and is very agile. Still needs more refinement on his technique. Look at his stats, he is not a mediocre player like Berube, he has been great at every single level he has played.

Berube is not very good. Not overly athletic, not great size, not great technique. A very mediocre AHL talent that was outplayed by a pro rookie in Bartosak last year. Has a tendency to allow bad goals. He is not at all NHL calibre. Claim makes no sense.

****ing great. Thank you

...and if they're going to be playing in the NHL immediately, it makes even LESS sense that Tokarski was passed up.

Someone in that org must have seen one manchester playoff game.

The trick with Berube is to play that reverse defense. Instead of trying to clear the puck, just keep pushing it back into the slot. No real danger till it gets out near the blueline
:sarcasm:

Knowing this org it probably went like this
Flintstone: Gath, we should claim Berube because he's a warrior and he battles hahd
Garth: ok

The Isles needed to filled the vacant Kevin Poulin crease position. A average AHL goalie who does not fare well with the big club.

Who knows, maybe he becomes Cam Talbot 2.0.

:help:

I dunno, I generally trust Snow's evaluations lately, he obviously sees something he likes...but he's definitely a battler so haha very true.

I mean, it's not out of the question, it's just a gamble. He's got raw talent and was developing at a steady rate. He's just very inconsistent and we often joked he needed glasses because the farther from the net the more likely the goal. I could see him tearing it up on sheer adrenaline to start and then just getting ripped apart.
