Bernier replacement

I'd like see if we can get Scrivens from Toronto. Failing that, bring up Jones. We don't need someone with a big cap hit. If Jones fails this year, cut him loose and get someone better next year when the cap goes up likely.

I'm not as worried about this because with such a flooded goalie market someone will bite. I'd prefer a vet for this year though, and go figure, it's probably the worst year for that, heh. But I look at it this way--what if, God forbid, Quick went down for 30-40 games? Would you be comfortable with Jones in there? I sure wouldn't. I'd feel a lot better with someone with some NHL games under their belt.

I know he's gotta get his shot sometime, though.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with anyone but Bernier, and that's no longer an option it appears.

Thomas Greiss?

Greiss ain't bad. He posted some pretty respectable numbers in the Sharks backup role. Only made 587,500 last year. You can probably sign him for a reasonable amount.

**** no. I would throw up every time I see that piece of **** in a Kings uniform.

I would cancel my season tickets immediately.

What was it that Rafal said? We have enough right wings already. (One of the best posts of the year, by the way.)

LOL that was amazing. He still owes me a new keyboard for that.

Thomas would puke every time he left his house in southern california.

If Bernier is traded who do the Kings bring in to back up Quick?

Although this years UFA goalies are not exactly stunning in terms of starters, there sure does seem to be some quality back ups.

Khabibulin...too old
Emery...too expensive
Labarbera...old King had a good year in PHX...good option
Theodore...think he probably wants to play more games
Mason...probably retire
Ellis...filled in well in CAR and has always played well against the Kings...good option
Griess...relatively untested and wouldn't push too much for playing time behind Quick...OK option
Khudobin...lots of upside, but probably looking for more games like in EDM or MINN
Garon...aging vet and ex-king might fit
Montoya...nothing flashy...on the right side of 30

I think Labarbera or Ellis are the likely options? thoughts and for how much?

Ellis would be the best fit IMO. If we could land him then my other picks would be Theodore, Garon, Khudobin, or Greiss.

Greiss isn't good. He shouldn't even be an option. He'll probably be back in Europe next year.

Please let it be Dan Ellis!

That guy has more nervous tics and weird goaltender habits than the next ten nervous netminders COMBINED.

Just a joy to watch between the pipes.

Labs is a good option because he is used to playing that backup goalie who gets in 20 games or so and does a good job. This is a much better Kings team then the years he was here.

Clearly you don't remember him not being able to stop the puck on any shootout attempts.

The Kings depth on LW sucks because all the LWs are in Washington, that's the problem. :)

I don't think Thomas would work for the Kings because I am sure he wants to be a starter, but to cancel season tickets over one player's politics, really?

I would like to see Jones get his chance, but I understand the rationale for folks wanting him to be a starter for another year in the AHL.

After that Khabibulin would be an interesting option if he came cheaply enough, then Greiss.

That is pure gold. :biglaugh:

Going into the discussion, I think Ellis would be a good fit here.

I'm not advocating for Labs, but as a backup he's done quite fine for himself. Lowest save percentage since leaving LA is .909, and he's twice gone above .922. That's pretty solid numbers for a backup.

If we ended up bringing him back to be the backup, I'd be ok with it for one season, just to see how it goes. He's put up good numbers and isn't being asked to be the go to guy. Some guys thrive as a backup, maybe that's his thing?

No. No. No. Dave Tippett made Mike Smith look like an NHL starter, which he's not. Labs is bad. Very bad.

Smith is an NHL starter talent wise. His head is another matter. Actually had good numbers in T-Bay before his concussion.

But whatever, can agree to disagree.
