For me the difference between Getzy and Bergeron offensively is greater than the difference defensively. I go Getzlaf but have no issue with anyone going with Bergeron. He’s certainly ageing better of the two.

Staal is a distant third.

I'll give Bergeron the edge, Staal and Getzlaf are close.

Ummm, no.

Bergeron is far better defensively then Getzlaf is offensively and it's not even close

Getzlaf has 1 Selke top 5, a 5th place.
Bergeron has 11 Selke top 5s and 4 wins

Getzlaf is 0.92ppg in 1053 games
Bergeron is 0.80ppg in 1089 games

Bergeron is the better goal scorer with 6 30 goal seasons to Getzlaf's 1, and 352 goals to Getzlaf's 274.

Mic drop right here.

There's no arguing this.

Getzlaf has finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in All Star voting as a center, while Bergeron has been 4th and 5th.

Getzlaf finished 2nd in Hart voting compared to Bergerons 5th.

Getzlaf’s defensive game is vastly underrated because of the market and time zone he plays in. He wasn’t on the same level defensively as the absolute best in the league but he wasn’t far behind, he certainly should have been getting a lot more Selke recognition than he did.

It’s worth noting that Getzlaf has a significantly better Hart voting record with one nomination and three top 10 finishes compared to Bergeron who was never nominated and had one top 10 finish. Getzlaf also has 6 seasons where he’s finished above a PPG compared to Bergeron who has a single season above a PPG. Bergeron ageing better makes the offensive output look closer than it is but in their primes Getzlaf was significantly ahead offensively.

And as for the goal scoring argument - that’s nice but Getzlaf is a pass first player. Despite having one of the best shots in the league he was always an assist guy and he’s always been the guy in Anaheim that drives the bus offensively and makes his line mates look significantly better than they are at the expense of his goal totals.

I have no issue with people voting Bergeron here but to act as if it’s not close means you’re either completely ignorant of how good Getzlaf was or you’re showing clear bias because you’re a Bruins fan.

Well he did finish 5th in Selke voting one year, so defensively Getzlaf was pretty darn good.

I take Bergeron. Seriously 4 Selke wins, a Top 3 finalist 9 consecutive times, finished Top 5 every year since 2010. But the gap between him and Getzlaf is very small as Getzlaf is a great, great player. Maybe the best combination of size and skill of his generation. Both are Hall-of-Famers IMO.

I'd say Bergerom has recently passed Getzlaf just because of his late-career consistency. Staal is third.

Not a Bruins fan at all, but this isn't close at all for me. And no I'm not COMPLETELY ignorant. Bergeron all day everyday.

Staal

I don't think the gap is very large between any of them, but I think the order is clear. Bergeron is possibly the best defensive forward ever and has really come into his own as a producer. He's been getting better with age. Getzlaf has been remarkably consistent and spent a huge chunk of his career as a top5 or top10 C in the league. Staal just hasn't had the same sustained peak as the other two. He was incredibly dominant when he was younger, but outside of his 42g season in Minnesota he hasn't had the production or results to keep him in the conversation as the other two. Probably the most dominant offensively of the three at his peak, but nowhere near the term to justify ranking higher.

Getzlaf, easily. Remind me when Bergeron made an AST or was a hart finalist. Has to be 1 of the only Cs in league history who people pump as this superstar elite 1C but never once finished top 10 in goals, assists or pts. Never once hit 80pts. I always laugh when people say he's "one of the best 2 way players ever". Right up there with Toews as the most overrated player of this generation (but at least Toews has a smythe and an AST).

This x10

Bergeron gets treated better than guys like Stamkos and Tavares who have multiple hart finalist finishes

People forget bergeron was a 55-65 point guy for like 6 years and really has had 3 strong offensive years since 2009.

Hes a sure fire 1C and prob a in the 9-11 range. However his career isnt better than a guy like Getzlaf who has been dominant come playoffs and been a near ppg guy for his career with strong 2 way game
