Benoit Pouliot is this year's obligatory enigma

Funny story, true story: Pouliot is still WAY behind his career average 5v5 scoring rate as a Ranger. If you're pleased with him now - know that there is even more upside to be had.

Right now is actually resign him under 2 million per for 2 yrs which is a hoot since he drove me nuts at first

2 yrs tops

Very happy with Pouliot. Glad to see he's found his niche on this team and is contributing at a steady pace.

But there is a reason this guy is on his 5th team in 5 years, and I, for one, am not ready to start throwing around 4 year contract extensions willy-nilly.

Maybe stability is what he needs? It's all about confidence and well-being for players like Pouliot.

Poo is my preferred kind of 3rd liner.

Exactly, he is exactly what you want of a 3rd liner - someone with enough talent to drive the play and score, but not consistent enough to lock down a top-6 spot (and a top-6 salary).

What used to be known as a "3rd line player" is what we today classify as a 4th liner, and what used to be a 4th liner is no longer an NHL caliber player.

Sign him...fully agree ! The guy could even get better....Give him 7-8 over 4-5 years . We can't have all 7 Million guys...we still need some pluggers and he can skate and is big...if only he had a wee bit more of a mean streak when he arrived in the corners.....it would be huge !!!! Works well in that crease PP role...:handclap:

So nice to not have 2 4th lines for the first time in forever. Maybe since we had a good Drury on the 3rd line?

Honestly I would perhaps give ck a 3rd line game or 2 and promote poo to more minutes,

He's been stellar and he's earned it.

And ya I offer him a contract 1.5 mil/3 yrs seems reasonable.

If he keeps it up and continues his play I extend another year or bump to 2/3

There really is no middle ground on HF. :laugh:In November, some people actually preferred Pyatt over Pouliot and now we want to extend him for 4 years?

This. Exactly this; couldn't have said it any better.

Even when Pouliot was struggling I liked his game and knew there was more to be had from him. Props to AV and staff for sticking with him and coaching some of the stupid mistakes out of his game as well

I think the moment you take him off of that line with Brassard and Zucc, his game is going to suffer. Was at the game last night and those three are incredible in the offensive zone and on the break out. They not only find each other with great passing, but the lanes that they skate are tremendous. The natural chemistry is hugely important for those three.

I feel the same. I fear what Pouliot and Brassard will look like without Zucc spoon feeding them great passes.

Which is why I think all three should be re-signed.

Zucc to a 4-year deal
Brass to a 3-year deal
Poo to a 2-year deal

Pouliot I worry about with someone else, but I give almost as much credit to Brassard as I do to MZA. It's looking more and more like he's had one bad stretch at the beginning of the year (when everyone was playing poorly) and that's the outlier, not the other way around.

I really appreciate how well Poo has played for us. Really do.

So much so that I want Zuccarello locked up long term.
