Bennett

Bennett rules. I wanna have sex with him.

The people that say he doesn't win board battles are smoking crack.

If you think that his board-play is strong, then you're looking through rose-colored glasses. He does win a few battles, but is routinely outmuscled. As he should be... I mean he's a lanky kid. I fully expect him to get stronger and win more of those battles as his career progresses.

Thanks to all. I haven't been able to tune in to many games since BB was called up. It is great news that we appear to have a home grown forward with real top 6 potential.

Bennett has filled the hole this team has had for years now. Neal was one piece, Bennett is the other

We have long had a massive hole on wing where we were in desperate need of a winger that is creative, smart, skilled and looking for the big play instead of a straight conservative style.

That doesnt mean he is not defensively responsible because he is.

I have been very impressed with Bennett.

He reminds me of a more physical Petr Nedved without the world class wrist shot.

Hes always in the right place it seems. I love the fact that in the offensive zone that he has that star quality of drifting right to that open spot where the rebounds seem to follow them. Hes very silky smooth.

I dont know that he will ever be a 40 goal scorer type but I can see him being a 60-70 pts a year type who can really open up the ice for Malkin and Neal with his creativity and natural smarts.

This guy is so creative on offense. Hes so much more than simple plays and that is what this team has needed. Someone more than simple game offense on wing.

Hes not afraid to go to the net either. He has natural goal scorer instincts. Hes very sound protecting the puck. He does well keeping control and shielding it.

He looks to do more than pass the puck around the boards and instead seeks to protect the puck while looking to attack down low or to someone coming in. I cant remember the last time we had a winger who was a playmaker like this. Usually everyone looks to get rid of the puck as soon as they get it. Bennett though holds the puck and looks to create a scoring chance with it. For a long time the wingers on this team have always played like " dont create a turnover". Not this guy. He can dish it like an offensive center.

I could see him also being a top PK guy at some point also. His game is just solid all around.

im thrilled with his potential.

Every passing game you can see his confidence grow.

Hes lanky at this age yes but hes willing to use his body. But more importantly, he DOES win battles and he DOES keep control of the puck because the guy is smart. He uses sound positioning and stickwork to work the boards.

Just wait to this guy fills out too. Hes got the frame and hes very young. I hope we manage to hold on to him a very long time.

What would guys label him as?

Playmaker, sniper, two-way winger, straight up defensive forward, some combination of those?

NHL comparables?

I think you are confusing "blowing people up" along the boards, with simply retaining possession. While he may not be laying guys out, he keeps possession in the O-zone and clears the D-zone, and that is the main objective. Also, he does throw the body around pretty well on the forecheck so, I'm please with his board play, and it should only get better.

2 way player currently IMO...I really would compare him to Sutter right now. I even have a hard time telling them apart on this ice. Their numbers are close and they look the same to me out there.

He certainly isn't a sniper or power forward now. We will know in about 2 more seasons where he fits in as either a 2way player / playmaker / or sniper. It will take time and development for him to grow his offensive game as he gets more confidence out there. His defensive game is already one of the best on the team IMO. He has the 2nd highest +- rate behind Kunitz.

He is doing a lot of little things well and is growing more comfortable on the ice with each passing game.

I'm not sure how many people noticed it, but he took his first slapshot yesterday and got it off in a hurry. I was waiting to see that since he came up. He can really gun the puck when he wants and taking that shot shows his growing comfort level.

His only real mistakes came on the PP yesterday... Once giving up the puck on the 5-3 and over passing to Neal when he had a great look on net.

Not only is he making plays you can't help but notice, he is also doing little things that lead to big chances ie: His play to tie up Hamilton's stick and force a bad pass behind the net allowed Neal to grab the loose puck and walk in all alone ( and miss a wide open Jeffrey).

The way he reads the play in his own zone, supports his defenseman, and cleans up loose pucks from danger areas is uncanny and I can't express how rare it is for a guy his age.

Now we just need to see how he holds up physically, as it's the one big worry I have.

You can be outmuscled on the boards and still win puck battles. His crafty stick work and elite hockey sense compensate for that deficiency pretty well. But yeah I can't wait to see where Bennett's game is after a summer or two with Gary Roberts.

Bennett is good along the boards considering his build and experience. No complaints whatever under the circumstances. He's done better in the physicality dept than I expected. I figured him to be a perimeter player who is always thinking offense, however he's clearly got his head in the game on both sides of the ice. So far he looks like an outstanding pick by our scouts / Shero, and definitely not a consensus pick among scouts in general so shows they know what they're doing.

Skilled, creative, and responsible in all zones. WFM. The team is pleased and we the faithful are pleased.

You literally must be blind, because you couldn't possibly be watching Bennett play. It's almost comical how wrong you are.

Yah I agree. Bennett has shown no shyness at all about finishing his checks / taking hits / going to the boards when needed. I think some people expect him to be Chris Kunitz out there when fully developed (so they're looking for "Kunitz Lite" right now), and that's unrealistic. He's a different sort of player. For what he's brought so far... when I think of him putting another 10lbs of muscle on this summer and getting a full camp and start with the team next year, I think he can be useful not only offensively but physically as well. Maybe more so than Neal.

Only been a few games but he's been impressive and well-rounded so far.

He absorbs hits, moves out of the way of them, or lets the opposing player get the puck so he can lift their stick and take it away. He has won a ton more board battles than he's lost. What the hell do people expect him to look like? I mean do people even watch hockey? Even Sidney ****ing Crosby can get knocked off the puck. Seriously people are on crack.

Also, 6'1" and 207lbs isn't exactly what I consider, "lanky."

To put that into perspective, Stamkos is 6'1" and 195.

I thought Stamkos was more like 5'11". Didn't realize he was over 6'.

And if Beauner is really 207 already (thought he was more like 200lbs), 10 lbs more is too much at his height. Another 5 would be more than enough. Don't need to turn him into a tank / take away any of the dangle.

Yeah, apparently NHL.com lists him as 6' and 190 lbs, Bennett as 6'2".

Even so, at 207 that's hardly "lanky." Jaimie Benn is 6'2" and 205. Kesler is 6'2" and 202.

I'm pretty serious when I say people see him fall down once or twice and then decide he is "weak" along the boards.

"Crosby falls down along the boards a lot. Crosby is weak along the boards!"

It's lazy analysis, but what can you do?

I blame video games.
