Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

You can read the paper yourself.

It’s perhaps you that should be embarrassed.
This is garbage.

You know how you hear 5 days a week on the local news "A new study shows...(insert completely world shattering thing that never gets spoken of again)"?

This is one group finding a potential trend and hyping the hell out of it. The paper itself says "a POTENTIAL new trend" and it is the only study ever referenced on the subject.

Never said you were, just seems like a pointless thing to do... risk head injury to win Z division...
Again, it's not risking anything serious cause the contact isn't that bad, just like Stolarz's wasn't that bad.

That's what convinces me that he had issues before Bennett's contact. It just doesn't seem to be enough to warrant such a violent reaction with the vomiting and hospital visit. Glad to hear he's out.

It wasn't a vicious hit but it was still dirty, deliberate and totally unnecessary.

Bennett's history speaks for itself. The fact that he avoided supplementary discipline again just illustrates that he is very good at what he does.

The study was published last fall. It’s not even remotely surprising that it’s the first one reporting this given it was extremely recent lol.

Is this SHAAKE thing going to be validated by other groups? We will see. It’s hilarious though people in this thread acting like they are somehow scientific experts. This is exactly how symptoms of disease are discovered. Concussion is one that is very poorly understood.

The news sensationalizing other studies has absolutely nothing to do with this.

First of all, I wish Stolarz a speedy recovery. Hope he takes the time he needs. Don’t want to mess with a head injury.

On the play itself, I’d probably have given a 2 for interference but there doesn’t seem to be intent there. Not enough force.

The injury likely comes from a combination of the Reinhart shot and this. I don’t think you can really fault the concussion spotters either, Stolarz did give a head shake but that can mean anything. Just an unfortunate result.

Paul Maurice is one of the funniest coaches in the league.

As someone who has spent their entire professional career studying head impacts I'd urge you to understand that a published paper =/= absolute truth. For reference this journal's impact factor is the bare minimum to be considered "Good" or "Reputable" (3 on a 0-10 scale).

SHAAKE has promise as a diagnostic tool, but has far too many confounding factors right now with imperfect and subjective reporting and analysis.

if you can question someone's motivation, it doesn't matter if you understand their research, or how research works, or how science works

doubt their character and make yourself looks smurt :teach2:

So a couple questions:

1. Has it been confirmed anywhere that he was puking on the bench? Or is it solely based on the video of him leaning over the bench where it *looks* like he is *probably* puking?

2. Now that he has been to the hospital, has it been reported anywhere that he has been diagnosed with a concussion? Has it been reported anywhere that he was taken to the hospital for a suspected concussion?

If we want law of the jungle this is the way. Enforcers are rare nowadays but they were there for a reason. Players needed body guards. If the goalies need body guards this is going to get ugly. Should have given him a game for contacting the head. Even if it was accidental that's why it's only a 1 game, and he will be more careful or next one is 5 games. Use your goddamn authority to enforce the law so Ryan Reeves doesn't do it.

Are these questions directed at the unhinged Leafs fans trying to reverse engineer intent from injury?

So I think we completely agree.

Its an initial study that suggests a hypothesis. I have an issue with people definitively claiming that shaking your head is definitively a symptom of a concussion, and proof of a concussion in this instance.

Mike Johnson called it a light bump today, not a punch. Said it should of been a 2 minute penalty,

That is very interesting, thank you for pointing that out, I will now no longer think for myself and take the opinion of Mike Johnson as fact, thank you again.

suspend a player 1 game for an accident?
