Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

I don’t see any supplemental discipline happening from that, at most the refs could have given Bennett 2 min pen for goalie interference. Bennett was trying to get under Stolarz skin on the play, he plays on the edge. Hopefully Stolarz is fine.

I said before the series started, Leafs better be ready for a physical war with the Panthers, Panthers play that physical game on the edge similar to the Blues. This won’t be the only example Leaf fans are going to be upset about, there will be 1-2 examples per game of physical play on the edge. Get ready

That doesn't matter though, or it shouldn't. It was an illegal play that lead to a significant injury. That's what the league is supposed to suspend.

The result almost always is a factor on those videos they send out. But because it's the playoffs somehow the standards change.

Sure, I don’t doubt that, and hope you recovered well. In the case of Stolarz and goalies, we often see them take shots to the mask (sometimes losing their mask) and they carry on without issue. They wear their mask to protect them, no reason to believe that wasn’t the case here.

Could the shot have made impact? Maybe. I won’t pretend to know exactly what happened. But I think the most likely scenario is what we saw play out. He took a shot to the mask (which he was ready for), shrugged it off, continued to play well, and then took a blindsided elbow to the head where he was completely defenceless and unable to brace for.
Thanks, I think I have, but who knows one day I might have a CT that's like "nope"

Which to me makes it difficult when it comes to punishment, to me frankly the contact didn't look like much, and it could well be that the shot of the mask was not a contributing factor and the result is purely from the contact from Bennett, as I said the contact didn't look like much to me, but perhaps it was the absolutely wrong place. I'm not even trying to give Bennett any kind of benefit of the doubt. But if I were a ref, on the ice the most I would have called was 2 minutes, goal tender interference. Supplemental discipline is the same bag, I'm just not seeing enough to warrant it, which I understand sucks, your goalies hurt, and a player who was involved doesn't deserve the break he's getting.

Like it or not, reported there will be no further review by the league…..as I said

Looks accidental, Im sure Sam feels bad. It was not intentional at all.

No. Stolarz took an elbow to the head and immediately got dropped and taken out of the game and to hospital. That’s not speculation, it’s fact.
Well, no. Heck, you are even lying in your short post while claiming "fact".

He didn't get "taken" out of the game. He didn't leave "immediately". In reality, he later went to the bench himself during a stoppage and started vomiting. How much longer are we gonna keep pretending this was some crazy violent elbow with enough intent/force to cause a severe concussion on its own (to the point of vomiting)? If he wasn't ill before the game, then that puck to the dome earlier in the game was the primary cause, then the bump by Bennett amplified the issue unfortunately. I hate having to defend Bennett, but the internet mob is being too ridiculous not to.

Actual facts: I don't even like Bennett, but that wasn't egregious. The home Leafs' broadcast didn't even care. The Leaf players right there didn't freak out. The concussion spotters didn't do anything either. Simple penalty at most with an unfortunate result. Any other player and this isn't even a story.

Well they just made it fair game to run the goalie in the crease. I'm sure this will go over well the rest of the series.
How often in history of the playoffs, does one play or action lead to fireworks in the next game or series? That’s the playoffs, it breeds hate between the two teams. Next game is now must watch, for more fireworks.

Which is clearly why people (non-Leafs fans too, to be clear) have a problem with it. If it was Barkov, for example, it'd be chalked up to a simple mistake. But with Bennett there's obviously an underlying belief that it was intentional.

According to everyone it's not a big deal so don't bitch and whine when Domi runs Bob and takes him out. The league just said goalies are fair game.
Why would they want to do that? he was terrible.

A few pucks fired into the bench at that whiny bitch Maurice would be welcomed though.

"Hey Paul, how many times will we see you weeping this Series?"

"Thanks, so one down and 5 to go"

It's not inconceivable to think that players don't play through some sort of head injury when it first happened.

I would wager it was a combination of both the puck hitting Stolarz flush in the mask and the Bennett incident that took him out but moreso from the puck.

It being Bennett is what exaserbates the situation amongst fans.

The hypocrisy is hilarious

I agree, you can't spot it in your own post... if people are saying that players are targeted for disciplinary action based on who the player is and they want consistency, a form of consistency is to continue with all players.

I already said he wouldn't be suspended, but at what point does pretending like his actions are accidents stop?

Concussions are scary. My worst one was a dirt bike crash while practicing for an amateur series years back. Guess I went head over, head first.
Supposedly never lost conscious but kept repeating a question for like 30 minutes.

Only thing I remember is "waking" up at a hospital 3 hours later. It was like a camera was running with no film. Zero recollection of the crash or right after.

Years later I learned my vertebrate(C2) is higher than it's supposed to be, probably from that crash per a neurosurgeon review after a CT & MRI.
