Rumor: Bennett contract AAV could eclipse $10M?

Bennett is going to stay in Florida for probably like 8 million bucks.

They don’t have zero cap space going into the offseason. They have 19 million dollars to spend.

So then they’d have 11 million dollars for Samoskevich and a 13th forward, a D or 2 and a backup goalie. They can easily make it work.

Or Tkachuk’s hip is f***ed and he’s out all season next year. So then they can just go crazy on spending.

10+ for Bennett is not that wild. You're paying for a playoff performer. There are great teams who would gladly overpay for that. The Leafs are definitely not the only team looking to break through in the playoffs. Dallas and Carolina have to be frustrated about how awesome they are right up until it matters most.

The whole point of everything is playoffs. As long as the team has a lot of players better than Bennett, he can ride that wave and give the group what it needs to win deep in the playoffs

It works especially if that team has bargains elsewhere. The team's total cap spending matters more than individual AAV

You are talking like it’s 2016 and instead of Bennett it’s Lucic

Bennett gives you max 50 points during the regular season and he’s playing in the deepest forward group in the league

Is Tkachuk coming with him? He’s either the 2nd or 3rd best forward on the 2nd line sbout to make 10
 
If Bennett was doing this as a Canuck, we would have known his playoff shooting percentage 3 rounds ago.

He leads the playoffs with 13 goals and has a playoff shooting percentage of 22.4%.

That shooting percentage does seem to be unlikely to be replicated on deep playoff runs in the future considering his career shooting percentage in the playoffs is 13.2% and his regular season shooting percentage is only about 10%.

Then again, he's constantly messing around in front of opposing team's nets and trying to take out goaltenders, so maybe he'll continue getting greasy goals in the playoffs.

I personally wouldn't pay him more than $8 mil per (and even that figure seems generous for him).

I’m not saying Bennett himself hasn’t earned it, and he’s a terrific playoff performer, but $10 million for this guy is not worth it to an organization. $10 million aav should be for a guy who’s well above a point per game, a star defenseman, or top 3 goalie in the league. I can’t help but feel like it would be a mistake. A team that would benefit most from Bennett would be one that is already pretty close to being a legit contender and could probably address their needs more effectively with the money. A team that’s not particularly close giving Bennett a long term deal at that value isn’t going to be making a deep run until Bennett is in his mid thirties. Not saying it won’t happen, but I don’t think it’s a great idea.

What happens when playoff Bennett isn't in the playoffs and he's just a regular 2nd line, 50p (1x might i add), centerman whose now way overpaid?

Makes me sick to think Toronto is going to overpay him if he hits UFA.
 
I agree in season he don't worth 10M & + but his playoff impact and his hockey style worth it.
My guess he will signed a friendly deal with Florida

This is what I think will happen.

8x8 is 64 million.

7x10 is 70 million.

The taxes and comfort factor of knowing he has a substantial role on a possible dynasty team easily bridges that gap.

He is 29 years old this month, so there is no guarantee that he will still be playing or in a position to sign another contract after the 7 year contract expires. So that makes the 8th year mostly superficial. It's not like he is going to project to play that year. That makes Florida's offer more like a 7 year 64 million dollar offer.

It wouldn't shock me if someone went up to something ridiculous, like 12-13 million but not max-term. Contracts this summer aren't going to make sense, because GMs are going to look at a 104.5 and 113.5 million dollar cap when justifying how they fit, not just the current 95.5 million dollar cap.
 
I love Sam but let’s be honest here, i am not even sure he is a good enough 2C for a cup winner, if the Cup winner doesnt happen to have Lundell as their 3C.. which makes it more of a 2A/2B case Lundell eating the defensive minutes and almost scoring as much. His physicality and clutch is awesome but i dont think he should get over 7,5 anywhere.

Remember that the UFA market is crap

Whatever amount you think is fair, you have to add the following:
- an amount to get him to think about leaving the Panthers, a top contender

- a premium additional cost for being a top UFA available after Marner potentially

He will probably resign in fl. I saw he doesnt want to sign in Toronto. Which would likely pay him well. This says this is more of a be happy where you will be for long run than just get paid well. And contend too.

He hasn't gotten the bag yet, so expect him to go for the $$$ this offseason. But man, it'd be awesome if he signed discounted to remain with the Panthers. Like 8 x $6.5. And then they keep Marchand. Regardless of how this series ends, HF would implode (again). :laugh:
 
Carolina is my guess of where he ends up. They have $, need a 2C, and need some players bringing something a little different to the ice from the ones they’re loaded with
