I'm not too sure that Bishop is much of an upgrade for Philly. There goaltending has been a strong point for the last few years, no need to hit the panic button yet

Mason is just as good as Bishop.

Why on Earth would we trade for him when we already have someone as good?

Sure, he's playing poorly currently. Doesn't mean we need to overhaul goaltender, especially for Bishop.

It' SOOOOO "What have you done for me lately."

Nhlnumbers listed him on the books for 2017 so I figured that meant next season. This could work, I am ok with eating some of the contract too. With Stamkos injured we should have an extra 3 million to play with.

Lets see an offer

I honestly cannot think of one that would work. I would think the flyers would be interested in Bishop but not at the price that Tampa would command. If it were Mason + I think the plus would be too small for Tampa and the request from the lightening the flyers would not pay.

I wouldn't say as good, but Mason is definitely underappreciated. If it were a one for one deal I think the flyers should do it. No way Tampa would, but also I don't think the flyers would (or should) be willing to add anything of significance.

Hasn't Bishop been struggling just as much as Mason? The Lightning seem to only be able to win with Vasy in net this season.

Statistically, they're as comparable as can be (at least Save Percentage-wise, which I think is the best indicator of individual performance).

Hillary will be the next president before Bishop is traded to the Flyers.

That just doesn't seem like a very smart move for Tampa. The only thing that's kept the Flyers from being a powerhouse is a goaltender like Bishop so why would you want to help them in that regard when your team is pushing for a Cup? That trade only makes coming out the East that much harder.

Completely false. Compare Mason and Bishop's stats. Close as can be.

Having an actual goalie instead of Mason in net, wonder how many more games they would've won.

This guy knows as much about hockey as the hobo behind my workplace knows about how the Government is using his brain as an organic motherboard incubator.

Over the last 3 years, Mason has been fantastic, as well as being essentially the same player as Bishop numbers-wise on a far worse team.

Vasi is more than ready to take the reigns.

Definitely. I wish these stupid goalie trades would just happen already. I drafted both Vasilevsky and Murray in my pool assuming Fleury and Bishop would get moved quickly!

The thing that is keeping the Flyers from contending is time, experience, and defense, not goaltending. Price couldn't make this team a contender, so what makes you think that Bishop would?

The Flyers aren't contending this year without absolutely screwing their future, a future that is set up for the Flyers to contend for many years. So why rush that larger window for a significantly smaller one that is also at a greater cost?

soooo.... 3 years then?

My point is that if you want to call it a sample size, you can't arbitrarily throw out numbers. That's statistics, not my opinion.

I'm not arguing for or against trading for Bishop, honestly I haven't seen much of Mason play to know the difference in talent level, but Bishop was pretty much our MVP last season and three years ago. His numbers are much better than the stats would indicate, he's a two time vezina finalist, and a playoff stalwart. I'd hold onto him if we aren't receiving a quality asset in return.

???????????

And I would say the same for Mason: He's held up our awful defense for years.

I doubt it happens but the Flyers with Vezina quality goaltending is a scary thought. The have some great offensive cornerstones and Bishop could help cover any defensive woes.

Meh not yet. Let those dmen develop though.

If we take back Mason it's exactly like the Dallas situation where they wanted Yzerman to take back a goalie and he refused.

What is Philly offering?
Well one very significant difference between this and Dallas is Dallas wanted to trade a goalie with term, Mason is a UFA after this season.
