Ellis Park (Kentucky) info:

Mark Casse, a Canadian Hall of Famer who won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes this year, said he is bringing 25 horses to Ellis Park in KY when that meet conducts operations from June 30 through Labor Day.

Casse estimated it has been than 25 years since he stabled st Ellis. He seems to be reducing his stock in Saratoga.

Jockeys at Ellis will include Corey Lanerie, David Cohen, Florent Geroux, Tyler Baze, Brain Hernandez, Chantal Sutherland, Robby Albarado and Shaun Bridgmohan.

Julien Leparoux will be at Ellis when he isn't at Saratoga.

Indiana Grand (Indiana):

• Race 9: Two Sixtyone (Virginia Tormey/Larry Demerite) stunned the crowd by winning at 83-to-1. The WPS paid $168.80, $67.00 and $25.00. The jockey is from North Carolina. It was her 12th lifetime win.

• Maximum Security could run in the Pegasus at Monmouth (New Jersey) on Sunday. That will be determined tomorrow (Thursday). He was DQ's in the Kentucky Derby.

Belmont (New York):

• Todd Pletcher was the star of the day. He was a perfect 3 3-0-0 and won with three riders. I liked a 2-year-old filly named Kiss the Girl ridden by John Velazquez in her maiden race. A Maryland-bred daughter to Into Mischief who topped the 2018 mid-Atlantic sale when purchased for $210,000. She won by 4 1/2 lengths. Keep an eye on her.
• Race 1: Joel Rosario won the New York opener for the third time among the last five cards. He had just one other starter all day.
• Races 8 and 9: Dylan Davis rode the late double. Only Irad Ortiz, Jr. has more wins at the meet.

Delaware Park (Delaware):

• Trevor McCarthy won three times on five mounts.
• Race 7: Eons (Trevor McCarthy/Arnaud Delacour) passed two horses in the stretch. A nice field for a $50,000 race was nearly reduced by half when three of the seven runners were scratched. Daniel Centeno, who was elevated to second via DQ with his only start, is 22 7-7-5 (32%/86%) at the meet.
• Race 5: Jeremy Rose had one starter and won. He is now 34 11-7-0 (32%) at the meet and though light in volume is having a resurgence in his career.

Indiana Grand (Indiana):

• Race 9: In the finale, for quarter horses, the second longest shot on the board in a field of 10 won and paid $63.40.

• Baltimore vs. TSG: It appears the lawsuit by the City of Baltimore against The Stronach Group has been stopped. The sides are discussing matters as how it pertains to Pimlico and the future of the Preakness in staying at the facility beyond 2020.
• Maximum Security (Luis Saez/Jason Servis), DQ'd in the Kentucky Derby, will run on Sunday at the Pegasus Stakes in New Jersey.

Belmont (New York):

• Late post: A "Twilight Thursday" card. The first post was just after 3:00 pm. The weather was not cooperative.
• Race 7: Joel Rosario was the winning rider. There are few if any jockeys who could have ridden in a similar style. The horse looked beat on the lead but never surrendered and much of that had to do with the strength of Rosario.
• Race 3: Junior Alvarado rode his only mount (there were three scratched) to victory with the longest shot on the board at 9-to-1. Alvarado is fifth in wins at the meet with 21 but his 21% win percentage is second best (Jose Lezcano is #1) among riders with 20+ wins. Also, his payouts for wins is around $14 which is exceptional for someone with so many victories. Alvarado is a good one. Orlando Noda, the trainer, celebrated his first lifetime win.

Delaware Park (Delaware):

• Jeremy Rose-Anthony Pecoraro combined to win one of two. The jockey is 36 12-7-1 (33%/56%) and the trainer 17 10-1-2 (59%/76%) at the meet.
• Race 6: In a field reduced to three, the 3-to-5 favorite took a bad step entering the stretch and tossed her rider. She was 1-for-1 on the Delaware track, winning a stakes race in her second outing last year. Bet options were limited prior to the race and most were officially refunded since only two finished.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Jairo Rendon had three wins. He was on the losing end of race 7; otherwise, an inch away from four victories. He has won at least once the last six race days.
• Race 7: A tough beat in a three-horse across-the-wire finish. I thought the 5 got his down watching live. Trainer Carlo Vaccarezza, who is 48 1-6-6 this year, finished second.

• Rainbow Six carryover: The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 45th consecutive racing day. It produced a carryover jackpot of $2,341,706.72 for Friday's 2:15 p.m. twilight program.

Belterra (Ohio):

• Race 1: A 57-to-1 shot finished second and paid $52.20 in the middle.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 6: Robby Albarado won at 18-to-1 with the second longest shot on the board. It was his second win in 54 starts at the meet.
• Race 7: A 17-to-1 topped the ticket. Tyler Baze won this race and the net to bring home both ends of the late daily double.
• David Cohen is now 71 2-9-8 at the meet. Again, he won the Oaklawn (Arkansas) meet which ended in April.
• Corey Lanerie leads the meet with 28 wins. Miguel Mena and Julien Leparoux follow with 24 wins. Mena is currently appealing a suspension. The meet ends June 29.

What: All eyes will be on Maximum Security who was DQ'd from the 2019 Kentucky Derby. This is likely a prep race for him prior to being entered in the $1 million Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) July 20 which is also at Monmouth Park.

Note: This race is not to be confused with the Pegasus World Cup held at Gulfstream in January.​

Belmont (New York):

• Joel Rosario won the second race. As per the norm, when he wins early enough he will win again. And right on cue, he had three winners.
• Junior Alvarado won twice including race 5 with the longest shot on the board in a field four and all first-time starters. He is now fifth in wins at the meet and has an impressive 22% winning percentage but the average $ per win is superb (near $14).
• Jose Lezcano has nine more wins than his closest competition but the next eight leaders are separated by just six wins.
• Race 9: That was one large group of people in the winner's circle following the card's finale.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Rain: Heavy rain came midway through the card but eventually cleared.
• Rainbow Six: Two legs designated as "all's" due to a surface change midstream from turf to dirt. The carryover into Saturday's card will be in excess of $2.4 million.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 9: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $21,000.

Santa Anita (California):

• Race 6: Strictly Biz (Joe Talamo/Brian Kornier) interested me with a 5-to-1 morning line. He was bet early but eventually settled into a 7-to-2 slot. He got bumped at the gate and finished fourth but then there was at least a 5-horse objection/inquiry. Much like the 2014 Breeders Cup Classic, the stewards ruled no change. In any event, Strictly Biz was out for the second time after a maiden race victory. Perhaps he deserves more of a look.

June 15, 2019 (part 1 of 2)

• Steve Asmussen has lost with his last 24 starters after the Stephen Foster tonight in Churchill. He is North America's second winningest trainer this year. He last won on June 9.
• Bill Mott basically said during an interview tonight that Country House, winner of the 2019 Kentucky Derby, will not run again in 2019 but will return in 2020 for a 4-year-old campaign.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 10: Eric Cancel nearly pulled off another miracle in a finale of a New York race day but settled for second at 43-to-1 to the post time favorite. The $2 Pick 6 paid out $120,000+. The carryover is a hair under $500,000.
• Race 5: Jose Lezcano and Luis Saez hooked up in one of the most entertaining battles of the day with the former victorious.
• Leading riders: Jose Lezcano (36 wins), Dylan Davis (27), Kendrick Carmouche (27), Irad Ortiz, Jr. (26) and Junior Alvarado (24). Those riders combined to win nine of the 10 races today.

Monmouth (New Jersey):

• Paco Lopez returned from a 30-day suspension for various riding infractions at Gulfstream earlier this year. He won on his first mount, the opening race. He had three victories in total but his ride on Todd Pletcher's starter in the feature ended critically for Orra Moor who was on the lead at the time of the spill.
• Nik Juarez, the meet's leading rider, rode three winners. He finished 8 3-0-4. It was the second straight day he won three times on a card.
• Chris DeCarlo won twice. It took him a while to get back into a groove since his return earlier this year from injury. Upon quick research, his last multi-victory day came in August 2017.
• Jorge Navarro, the meet's leading trainer, had three winners. He finished 9 3-3-1.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Race 12: The $2 double to end the day paid $1,140.40.
• Race 11: Jammer (Xavier Perez/Robert Leaf, Jr.) paid $130.40 to win at 64-to-1.
• Race 5: Ashley Castrenze won for the first time since November. She has just 18 starts this year. She began her career winning her first four starts in 2016.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• The Rainbow 6 was not hit yet again and will begin tomorrow at $2.4 million+. It surpassed $2.7 million today.
• Jesus Rios rode two winners. He was the only jockey to repeat a victory. No trainer had more than one win. An odd day at the popular track.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 2: Robby Albarado/Dale Romans teamed for a win. Both have long histories of winning but had just two wins apiece entering today. On the bright side, they have now won on consecutive cards.
• Race 5: Mr. Money (Gabriel Saez/Bret Calhoun) obliterated the field and won the $150,000 Grade 3 Matt Winn stakes.

• Race 6: March to the Arch (Tyler Gaffalione/Mark Casse) won the $250,000 Grade 2 Wise Dan Stakes by a neck over All Right (Adam Beschizza/John Ortiz) at 71-to-1 who paid $61.60 to place. The $2 exacta paid $1,700. The $.50 tri paid over $1,740. The $1 super paid over $53,000.

• Race 7: Elate (Jose Ortiz/Bill Mott) was sent off as the 4-to-5 favorite and won the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis. I thought this would be a matchup of Blue Prize and She's a Julie despite the favorite position of the eventual winner. Good race, a slow pace allowed Elate to finish successfully and get invited to the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Mott is a class act.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 8: Seeking the Soul (John Velazquez/Dallas Stewart) won the Grade 2 $600,000 Stephen Foster and earned an invite to the Breeders' Cup Classic. The 6-year-old has now earned over $3,000,000 and improved to 27 7-6-7 lifetime. Velazquez has a great internal clock and it was evident there although some of the top guns failed to make an impact. Stewart was animated and elated following the race. Two races ago, the horse finished 8th in the $12 million Dubai World Cup in March. The horse is owned by Charles Fipke who also owned Forever Unbridled (I had to mention that).

• Race 9: Hard Legacy (Julien Leparoux/Norm Casse) won the $150,000 Grade 3 Regret Stakes. The 3-year-old filly won for the first time in 2019 after two defeats and is now 5 3-0-0 lifetime. This was the first graded stakes win for the younger Casse's (son to Mark).

Santa Anita (California):

• Race 8: Desert Law (Rafael Bejarano/Carla Gaines) was sent off the favorite and won the $100,000 Thor's Echo Stakes by over 6 lengths.

• Race 3: Portal Creek (Rafael Bejarano/Robert Hess, Jr.) gave the jockey his 4,000th lifetime victory. He was named Jockey of the Week for his milestone.

• Pick 6: The jackpot will start at $1,260,210 to open Sunday's card. There will be a mandatory payout. Estimates put the total sum over $5 million with a Father's Day card on the horizon.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Eurico da Silva added three wins to his meet leading figure.

Belmont (New York):

• Irad Ortiz, Jr. won three times and moved into second place in the meet's rider standings.
• Junior Alvarado won twice and his 26 wins are fifth at the meet. His 22% winning percentage is second best only to meet leader Jose Lezcano among riders with 10+ victories. As I have said for years, Alvarado is an underrated rider. He has flaws but he has strengths, too.
• Heman Harkie enjoyed his first multi-win day as a rider in North America. Harkie won the opener and finale among just three mounts. He won his first career race in February and now has five total victories in his 2-year career. I don't know much about the rider or from where he hails.
• Race 9: Heman Harkie rode home a $78 winner. The $2 Pick 4 paid over $16,000.
• Race 8: Gucci Factor (Joel Rosario/Christophe Clement) won the $300,000 Grade 3 Poker Stakes by a nose. The winner paid $12.20. To get Clement at that price on turf is a steal. Rosario may be the best closer in the country. "It is going to be a wild finish, they were all cling in the end, Larry Collmus. By the way, Phil Mushnick, in Friday's New York Post, raved about Collmus' call in the Belmont Stakes. A good one, not the greatest but to receive such recognition is commendable.

Monmouth (New Jersey):

• Race 10: King for a Day (Joe Bravo/Todd Pletcher) upset Maximum Security (Luis Saez/Jason Servis) in the $150,000 Pegasus Stakes. It was Maximum Security's first race since being DQ's as the winner in the 2019 Kentucky Derby. He stumbled at the start but recovered nicely. No excuses. He was beaten by a better horse this day.

• Race 13: Jersey Joe B. (Andrea Rodriguez/Norman Follett), a New Jersey-bred, was the victor in the finale. The 10-pound bug rider broke her maiden in her 33rd start. The trainer, who doesn't send out too many horses, won for the first time since June 15, 2018 at Belmont, almost exactly one year ago. Is the horse named after Jersey Joe Bravo?
• Jersey Joe Bravo hit the board with every mount and finished 6 3-2-1. He is 47 11-16-9 (23%/77%) at the meet.

Parx (Pennsylvania):

• Richard Bracho suffered multiple injuries including a broken vertebrae and bleeding on the brain after a spill. His 3-year-old filly suffered no serious injuries and was out for the second time.

Laurel (Maryland):

• Trevor McCarthy, who it seems was a bug just yesterday, is in his 9th year of riding and having the best year of his career. Today he won three more times and finished 7 3-0-3.
• Race 2: The winner paid $54.40/$20/20/$11.40, the place horse paid $20.20/$15.80 and the show finisher paid $4.80. The prohibitive favorite was on the lead in the stretch but took a bad step.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Cristian Torres, a 7-pound bug, won three times and hit the board with six of his seven mounts. He is 19 years old and was an exercise rider for Mark Casse, originally from Puerto Rico. He has been catching some attention for his skill at a young age.
• Race 12: The $.20 Pick 6 paid over $12,500 to each winner. The $2 Pick 5 paid over $25,000. The $2 Pick 4 returned more than $13,000.
• Rainbow Six: The pool will begin at more than $2.5 million for Thursday's card.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 3: The Borel brothers (Calvin, jockey and Cecil, trainer) teamed for a win and paid $29.40. It was the trainer's second win since 2014, he returned to training this year.
• Race 2: Steve Asmussen snapped his losing streak and now has one winner with his last 29 starters.

Arlington (Illinois):

• Christopher Emigh won twice and is now within seven victories of 4,000 in his career. He hit the board with each starter and finished 6 2-1-3.

Lone Star (Texas):

• Canceled: Due to track conditions resulting from inclement weather, racing was halted after the third race.

Santa Anita (California):

• Race 2: Scoring (Rafael Bejarano/Doug O'Neill), a first-time starter, won for owner and National Hockey League player Erik Johnson.
• Race 8: Mucho Gusto (Joe Talamo/Bob Baffert) won the $100,000 Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes. Baffert sent out three of the six starters. One of his defeated was runner-up Roadster who finished 16th in the 2019 Kentucky Derby after much hype following a win in the Santa Anita Derby.

• Race 9: The Pick 6 was a mandatory payout and over $5.2 million was added to create a pool that passed $6.5 million. Each of the 1,664 winners received $3,187.
• Closing day and the southern Cal schedule: Santa Anita closes its meet on June 23. There will be a mandatory payout day. Los Alamitos opens for its June 29 - July 14 meet. Del Mar will operate July 17 - September 2.

Woodbine (Ontario):

ROYAL ASCOT

NBC released coverage information pertaining to the Royal Ascot in England. Eddie Olczyk and Britney Eurton among the talent at hand. There will be 22 hours of coverage during the five days including pre-race analysis.

Horse racing: Royal meeting at Ascot fit for a queen​

The meeting starts Tuesday and runs through Saturday, with eight Group 1 races scattered throughout and plenty more action elsewhere on the card. Fashion counts, too, especially in the Royal Enclosure where the Queen alights from her carriage each day and pays close attention to the racing. As well she might. As keen a horsewoman as she is steadfast a monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has owned 23 Royal Ascot winners, dating back to 1952.

William Haggas, who admits to having "a lot of horses for Her Majesty the Queen," said at the event preview, "I've had no luck for her at Royal Ascot yet. But to try and win a race there would be big stuff for us and we try hard to do so." He will field the Queen's Magnetic Charm in the Coronation Stakes and Seniority in the Royal Hunt Cup.

While it started as a very upper-crust English exercise, Royal Ascot has spread its wings globally and this year expects runners from Japan, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. American horses are expected to perform each day, a credit to trainer Wesley Ward, who pioneered large-scale U.S. involvement at Royal Ascot and recently told Daily Racing Form, "This is the highlight of my year."

As in most recent years, global powerhouse owners Coolmore, from Ireland, and Godolphin, based in Dubai, will trade punches day in and day out. The colors of racing's most powerful -- and wealthy -- owners will be on display, among them The Aga Khan, Prince Faisal Bin Khaled Al Saud, Sheik Hamdan Al Maktoum, Khalid Abdullah, Qatar Racing, Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber, the Wertheimer family, Princess Haya of Jordan, George Strawbridge and many others.
Despite the royalty and wealth, it's far from unknown for an unheralded owner or syndicate to land a race or two and greet the Queen.

Top riders from around the globe, including 60-time Royal Ascot winner Frankie Dettori and Coolmore's top rider, Ryan Moore, will be on hand, although the Godolphin bunch will miss jockey William Buick, who is recovering from injury.

The 6-year-old finished with a 16 10-2-0 mark and earned $1.989 million. Among his wins was the 2017 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont and the 2018 Whitney at Saratoga. He was a son to Bellamy Road who was once owned by George Steinbrenner.

Ascot Racecourse (Ascot, Berkshire, England)

• Royal Ascot is underway and the first day is in the books. Five days of racing from Tuesday through Saturday.
• Important note: There is a vast difference in program numbers and post positions.
• Joe Orseno in a top hat and tails, sporting the attire for the week. He has been training in the mid-Atlantic since the 1970s. The Phiiladelphia native won the 2000 Preakness with Red Bullet -- an Unbridled son. That colt was owned by Frank Stronach. Funny in today's interview when his owner told him he wanted to go to Ascot that Orseno tried to talk him out of it. This is a long way from Rockingham in New Hampshire and Atlantic City in New Jersey and other places he once trained.
• Race 1: Lord Glitters (Daniel Tudhope/David O'Meara) got his head up in time to win the $768,000 Grade 1 Queen Anne Stakes which is a "Win and You're In' Breeders' Cup race. The winner paid $46.80 and topped a $1 trifecta that returned $7,182. He was second in this race last year. The 6-year-old gelding, bred in France, gave the jockey his third Royal Ascot win lifetime and a fourth for the trainer. The winner of last year's race -- Accidental Agent in the first stall -- had a sluggish start coming out of the gate. A possible refund?

• Race 2: Arizona (Ryan Moore/Aidan O'Brien), an Irish-bred, was sent off the favorite and won the $192,000 Grade 2 Coventry Stakes. The winner paid $8.80, not bad for a favorite but it was a deep field, in a race billed as perhaps the most important race of the week for 2-year-olds. The jockey and trainer are expected to win multiple times this week. The trainer won this race for the ninth time, the roll beginning in 1997. From Ryan Moore, who won this race for the third time, per an analyst on the NBCSN broadcast "He's a big baby, he's still learning." He has the look of a future champ! Threat, another Irish-bred, came in second spot.

• Race 3: Blue Point (James Doyle/Charlie Appleby) won the Grade I $640,000 King's Stand Stakes for the second consecutive year and paid $13.40.

• Race 4: Circus Maximus (Ryan Moore/Aidan O'Brien) won the Grade I $689,500 St. James Palace Stakes. The winner paid $48.20. As stated after the second race, the jockey/trainer combo is expected to win multiple times this week and they connected twice in the first four races.

Ascot Racecourse (Ascot, Berkshire, England)

• Day Two: Races shown on NBCSN beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET (pre-race analysis starts an hour earlier).
• Race 1: Raffle Prize (Frankie Dettori/Mark Johnston) pulled an upset and paid $67.60 amid heavy rains to win the $141,000 the Grade 2 Queen Mary Stakes. A field of 25 ran in the race after three scratches and a "brilliant finish" as described by a TV analyst. Kimari (John Velazquez/Wesley Ward) got edged at the finish and later we learned the authorities suspended Johnny V. from July 3-11 (9 days) which will be honored in the U.S. for excessive use of the whip. The animated Dettori adds another big race to his legacy and has now won 61 times during Royal Ascot. He said following the race when it was stated by an interviewer that "We thought you didn't like to ride in the rain..." and the response was "Maybe Ascot is different." The trainer is from Scotland and won for the 44th time at Royal Ascot.

Shock of all shocks. John Velazquez was suspended by the ruling body in England for a ride today in which he used the whip excessively. Perhaps Johnny V. did not know the differences in rules overseas but of course he, and all riders, should have been aware. And he has ridden there in the past. But Johnny V. got suspended. Earth-shattering news. I didn't think that was allowed in the bylaws. Since his tack is in New York during the period of suspension, July 3-11, NYRA will honor it. Johnny V. is a living legend but let's just say to see him suspended and so quickly is not expected.​

• Race 2: Dashing Willoughby (Oisin Murphy/Andrew Balding) paid $27.60 in winning the $288,000 Grade 2 Queen Vase. The horse looked to veer but eventually settled under the rider. The $1 tri paid close to $2,000.

• Race 5: Lundqvist (Luis Saez/John Terranova) broke his maiden in his fifth start and second in New York.
• Race 6: Joel Rosario's only ride of the day and he closed feverishly to win.

Delaware Park (Delaware):

• Race 3: A Washington-bred won. Within a few minutes, Washington state breds won at Delaware and Indiana. Hopefully, someone in the state's breeding program noticed that.
• Weston Hamilton, the defending Eclipse Award winner for Apprentice of the Year, won both of his rides.

Indiana Grand (Indiana):

• Race 1: A Washington-bred who had run almost exclusively at Arapahoe in Colorado won the opener.
• race 4: brad Cox won with his only starter at the track. Since June 13, he is 10 6-1-1 combined at Churchill Downs, Belmont Park and Indiana Grand.

Dettori won at Royal Ascot for a 63rd time. Maven (Tyler Gaffalione/Wesley Ward) was scratched by Ward. The horse is a son to American Pharoah.
• Race 2: Sangarius (Frankie Dettori/Sir Michael Stoute) won the $115,000 Grade 3 Hampton Court Stakes and paid $32.60.
• Race 3: Star Catcher (Frankie Dettori/John Gosden) won the $275,000 Grade 2 Ribblesdale Stakes and paid $23.80.

• Race 4: Stradivarius (Frankie Dettori/John Gosden) won the $640,000 Grade I Gold Cup and paid $7.20. The race, a very lengthy 2 1/2 miles, had many top runners but the winner repeated last year's feat and improved to 16 11-1-2 lifetime. Dettori began the day winning the first four races and became the first jockey since 1965 to win four in one day at Royal Ascot. He won this race for the seventh time.

• Race 5: Biometric (Harry Bentley/Ralph Beckett) ran down Frankie Dettori's mount in winning the $153,000 non-graded Britannia Stakes and paid $252.50. The $2 exacta paid $885.40. One analyst said "Harry Bentley didn't read the script..." in denying Dettori a 5-for-5 day.

• Race 6: South Pacific (Seamie Heffernan/Aidan O'Brien) won the 1 1/2 mile $115,000 Handicap and paid $171.20. The trainer finished 1-2-3 in the race and the $1 trifecta paid $1,269.

• Luis Saez is 19 10-4-1 his last three days of racing.

Belmont (New York):

• Luis Saez had a second straight four win day and went 15 8-3-1 in that time. He won the final two races today to complete a 7 4-1-1 afternoon. He has been lights out for much of the last three racing days winning 10 of 19 starts but that included a runner up on Maximum Security at Monmouth on Sunday.
• Leading riders: Jose Lezcano (38 wins), Irad Ortiz, Jr (29), Luis Saez (29), Dylan Davis (27), Kendrick Carmouche (27), Junior Alvarado (26), Jose Ortiz (25) and Joel Rosario (24).

Delaware Park (Delaware):

• Race 1: The day opened with a $62.80 winner.
• Card: Amid a wet track, steady rains at one point which delayed the start of the fourth race, and many scratches, much of 8-race card included short fields and small payouts. Favorites won six of the last seven races.

Gulfstream Park (Florida):

• $.20 Rainbow Six: Exceeded $2.85 million and paid out over $84,000 to each person who had the winning combination. The carryover for Friday's card will begin at $2.6+ million.
• Race 10: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $74,000. The $.50 Pick 4 returned more than $5,300.

• Race 1: In a race of mostly first-time starters and all Kentucky breds but one, it was a Texas-bred that reached the winner's circle.
• Race 3: Fashionable Lady (Florent Geroux/Michael Ann Ewing), despite the success and popularity of the rider, won at 32-to-1 in her first start. Geroux isn't sent off at those odds too many times. The trainer won with her second consecutive starter and for the fifth time in 2019.
• Race 5: The $.50 Pick 5 paid over $97,000.

Ascot Racecourse (Ascot, Berkshire, England):

• Day 4: What a difference in weather. From yesterday's steady rain to a bright blue summery sky. The Queen's attire went from "gunmetal gray" to "raspberry pink."
• Eddie Olczyk made his maiden appearance at Royal Ascot today. He looks like a magician in top hat and tails. "It was made for him," Britney Eurton. Olczyk said he is looking for a bookie.
• The leading riders entering the final day: Frankie Dettori (7 wins) and Ryan Moore (5 wins).
• Race 1: Daahyeh (David Egan/Roger Varian) won the $115,000 Grade 3 Albany Stakes. The winner paid $19.60. The third place horse paid $176.80 to show. The $1 tri returned more than $12,500.

• Race 2: Japan (Ryan Moore/Aidan O'Brien) won the $288,000 Grade 2 King Edward VII Stakes. The winner paid $7.80.

• Race 3: Advertise (Frankie Dettori/Martyn Meade) won $640,000 Grade I Commonwealth Cup. The winner paid $35.00.

• Race 4: Watch Me (Pierre-Charles Boudot/Francis-Henri Graffard ) won the $640,000 Grade I Coronation Stakes. The winner was sent off at 20-to-1.
• Race 5: Thanks Be (Hayley Turner/Charlie Fellowes) won the $115,000 nongraded Sandrigham Stakes. The winning jockey is the second female rider to win at Royal Ascot. The winner was sent off at 33-to-1.
• Race 6: Baghdad (Ryan Moore/Mark Johnston) won $115,000 nongraded Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. The winner paid $18.80.

NORTH AMERICA
Belmont (New York):

• Luis Saez continued his torrid pace with three wins on four mounts. He is now 23 13-4-1 the last four days.
• Race 1: Luis Saez won the opener for the third straight day.
• Race 2: Was everyone asleep?! Steam Engine (Luis Saez/Bad Cox) may have been the gift of the year at 5-to-1 and paid $12. The jockey and trainer are on fire and to get them at these odds was startling. The horse was entered for main track only and the race was taken off the turf as was the entire card.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Race 4: The $.20 Rainbow 6 exceeded $2.9 million. In the race was a 99-to-1 morning line. I am not sure if that was a place setter or legit but the last time I saw a 99-to-1 m/l was....never.
• Race 2: An oddity in a field of six. Four horses did not finish and therefore superfectas were issued with "all" in fourth place and paid $1.89 for $.10. The four that did not finish included one that refused to enter the gate, one that ran off in the post parade and was scratched prerace, one that was pulled up and another that lost a rider.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 3: The winner paid $92.20, the exacta $1,357, the tri more than $7,000 and the $1 super over $86,000.

Santa Anita (California):

• Victor Espinoza was a perfect 3 3-0-0. Two wins came for Carla Gaines.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Race 2: Daryl Ezra is now 11 5-1-0 as a trainer this year.

• Brad Cox has hit the board with 30 of his 38 starters this month. Cox has sent horses to three tracks and his numbers are stunning:

• Race 2: Space Traveller (Daniel Tudhope/Richard Fahey) won the Grade 3 Jersey Stakes and paid an immense $193.40.

• Race 4: Blue Point (James Doyle/Charlie Appleby) won the $768,000 Grade I Diamond Jubilee Stakes in a nail biter. It was the 5-year-old horse's fifth straight win and 11th victory in 20 tries. Jockey and trainer won this race for the first time while the Godolphin ownership last won in 1995. This is the feature race of the week.

• Race 5: Cape Byron (Andrea Atzeni/Roger Varian) won the $224,000 Handicap.
• Race 6: Cleonte (Silvestre De Sousa/Andrew Balding) won the $115,000 turf race won at 2 3/4 miles.

• The weather appeared to be sunny and seasonal in most areas. A welcome change from the "off the turf" and sloppy tracks which seems to have dominated places such as New York. Deep fields made for good racing.

Belmont (New York):

• Race 5: The $2 Pick 5 paid over $113,000. That is a monster payday for someone.
• Races 5 and 6: Luis Reyes went back-to-back. He has only been riding three years in the states. That could be a first for him. The wins paid $59.50 and $13.40.
• Race 6: The $2 Pick 3 paid over $5,000.
• John Velazquez won his first two rides. The rider will serve a 9-day suspension beginning tomorrow resulting from a ride earlier this week during Royal Ascot in England. Originally the suspension, issued by the brits but to be honored in New York and elsewhere, was to be served from July 3 through 11 but the dates were changes.
• Joel Rosario won the opener with an exciting finish. And of course, as is his norm, he would repeat when he wins early and this time he won the 8th race.
• Irad Ortiz, Jr., the winningest rider in North America this year, went winless and ended 8 0-1-4.

Monmouth (New Jersey):

• Race 11: Hunter O'Riley (Paco Lopez/Jimmy Toner) closed with a fiery rally and won the Grade I $300,000 United Nations in an upset at 14-to-1. The 6-year-old, winless since July 2017, won for the 6th time in 22 starts.

• Race 10: Monongahela (Jose Lezcano/Jason Servis) won the Grade 3 $150,000 race for 3-year-olds and up.
• Race 7: Valedictorian (Paco Lopez/Kelly Breen), sent off the 4-to-5 favorite, won the $150,000 Grade 3 race for 3-year-and-up fillies and mares.
  
• Paco Lopez and Emisael Jaramillo, the latter making a rare departure from Gulfstream, each won three times. Lopez's second win was his 2,500th. Jaramillo had five rides but all three wins and a second place came in the day's first four races.
• Attendance and handle: Over 11,000 attended a solid card. More than $5 million was bet through all sources.

Gulfstream (Florida):

• Race 1: The $8 in the roulette pool has to be an all-time low. An 0-for-48 maiden was sent off the co-favorite.
• Race 2: $10 was bet in the roulette pool.
• Race 7: The Rainbow 6 passed the $3 million mark with over $423,00 added. It was the first time this current pool exceeded $3 million from what I recall. The pool will start in excess of $2.7 million Sunday.
• Handle: Over $7 million wagered.

Thistledown (Ohio):

• Race 9: Owendale (Florent Geroux/Brad Cox) closed gamely to win the Grade 3 $500,000 Ohio Derby at 3-to-5. Owendale finished third in this year's Preakness. Math Wizard (Edgard Zayas/Safflie Joseph) almost eked out a win. The $1 Pick 3 was a very generous $1,500+ even with a $95 winner in the middle leg. The Ohio Derby is the track's signature event.

• Race 8: A $95.00 winner.

Churchill Downs (Kentucky):

• Race 9: A field of 19 entered but nine were scratched. However, the result was still a very odd 19-2-17-16. I have to admit that I was unfamiliar with the colors of the 19. Other than the Kentucky Derby or a rare race like this, the #19 doesn't show too often.
• Race 10: Mia Mischief (Ricardo Santana, Jr./Steve Asmussen) won the $120,000 Roxelana Overnight Stakes to improve to 15 7-6-0. She is approaching $1 million in lifetime earnings. Half of the field of 10 was scratched.
• Steve Asmussen had 10 starters and was winless until victorious with his final two starters.

Santa Anita (California):

• Race 9: Mike Smith won on board a 19-to-1 shot. Woah! And like his other win today, Smith was fifth entering the stretch. The $.50 tri paid $451.80.
• Race 8: Simply Breathless (Flavien Prat/Neil Drysdale) was fourth in the stretch but won the $100,000 Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes.
• Race 6: Our Silver Oak (Mike Smith/Jonathan Wong) won the $200,000 Snow Chief Stakes. Smith was 5th entering the stretch.
• Jerry Hollendorfer was ruled off Golden Gate Fields and Santa Anita Park by The Stronach Group for not following newly implemented procedures. Hollendorfer has horses at Los Alamitos and Belmont which TSG does not own.

Woodbine (Ontario):

• Race 8: In a Grade 3 race with five starters, the finish was 1-2-3-4-5.
• Race 10: I'll Take the Gold (Skye Chernetz/Bonnie Eshelman) won and paid $55.50 and topped a Super High Five Jackpot worth over $93,000. The jockey won for the first time since November. The trainer was victorious for the first time since October and has 41 lifetime wins going back to the 1970s. They are also a mother-daughter team.
