Mods, if you have to close this down, I understand, but I hope that you could keep it up.

Today is Bell Let's Talk Day in Canada, and our American friends can help out as well.

Today is the day Bell donates 5 cents every time there is am interaction using #BellLetsTalk hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, Snap chat, views their official video with Howie Mandel and more to mental health initiatives.

At 9 am, there were already over 12 million interactions.

As a few of you are aware, I suffer from severe depression, and if not for my son admitting me into the hospital last summer for several weeks, well I don't even want to think about where I'd be today.

So this day to me has become a special day and I hope that you can all take a few seconds out of your day and simply use the hashtag once or a hundred times today or by using one of the other options Bell has to increase their total donation

Without question, this is the most important thread on the boards this morning.

I`m heading into Mrs Odaat`s college today as a volunteer for the numerous activities they have in place to bring more awareness to the campus. Going to be a great day. It`s raining outside but that won`t damper the events. Thanks Dom

I'm glad your son was there to help you Dom. Thank you for sharing your story.

Sadly, I worked with someone who took their own life at just 19 years old. No one talked about it back then so please take the opportunity to help in any way you can.

Coming from the Avs board just to post in this thread. People need to understand that it's okay to not be okay. Dom, I'm sorry to hear about your depression but also glad to see that you're at least willing to bring it up. Mental health hits close to home for pretty much everyone and this day is a very special day for that. Not just for the money raised, but because people tell their stories and educate one another on how there's no reason to be afraid.

As anyone who follows the OT threads can attest I have had my struggles with depression, anguish, anxiety etc. and I still do. Thankfully I can vent there or to my friends on FB messenger since many of them live far away from me. They have truly been life savers.

Sadly there are a lot of people who can't talk to anyone or worse think they shouldn't, that they should be strong enough to handle their own **** on their own (this was me until it nearly caused me to come undone). I had never heard of #BellsLetsTalk until I saw it on Facebook last night. I think this is a wonderful idea & I have re-tweeted a few tweets to help it along.

Silence about depression, anxiety etc. is literally a killer. If just tweeting or re-tweeting can help raise funds to end the silence why not do it?

God Bless all of you

God Bless you too.

It is time to rid the stigma that exists when talking about mental illness.

Happy you got the help you did, and even more happy your son stepped up for you the way he did.

Everyone, do all you can not just today, but everyday.

#BellLetsTalk is a big thing here. It's an important message. Thanks for sharing, Dom. As a guy in a family with a daughter that struggles with anxiety and depression, a spouse that struggles with anxiety, and a son that's dropped out of university due to anxiety and depression...listening and supporting is so important.

What if one doesn't have Facebook or twitter? Will instagram do? .05 cents per hashtag is a great idea, great cause. Awesome

Twitter and Instagram: Use #BellLetsTalk
Snapchat: Use their geofilter
Facebook: Watch a ~5 second video with Howie Mandel

For Canadians who subscribe to Bell, texting without iMessage or making a mobile or long distance call works, too.

It's definitely an important cause. Even if I'm sometimes a little jaded by "slactivism", this is actually a case where sending out a tweet helps in a LOT of ways. It lets people who have mental illness know that they're not alone: even if you don't have a mental illness, they know you're an ally. It educates those who don't have a mental illness that it's an important issue, and one that, frankly, we don't talk about enough.

And it's not just a corporate shill: I always groan when I see "retweet this and we'll donate a dollar" from a company, and see in the fine print that there's a cap that's ridiculously low compared to the number of tweets they'll get. They've already raised about 1.4 million from 28 million interactions today, and I'm pretty sure there's no cap.

To everyone sharing their stories: thank you. We're listening.

How is it that you know what people think is important and not important? Do you realize that people work and have life's and aren't hanging out in a forum 24hrs a day smart phone or not.

I apologize for you and too you, because I just saw Dom's post and can identify with you Dom very much. Not that I suffer from depression but I have 2 close family members my aunt and cousin, who suffer from schizophrenia and have been locked up away in a mental institution here in NYC for over 20 years now. Yes locked up in Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.

I understand that Dom is you're friend and you feel for him but don't take it out on anyone else.

Dom I just want to say this too you. "Depression can not hit a moving target." Stay busy maybe even try and help others with the same problem, which will bring a lot of SELF ESTEEM and SELF WORTH.

By the way I don't think I ever said this too you Dom, and that is that you are respected and valued so much here on HFBOARDS. You're easily one of the best posters on the whole site! Stay Strong!! And Forward...

God bless you Dom as he has a plan for you, and its why you are still here among us.
