October 8th is surprisingly early, only a month after it opened in theaters, but it did well, so it can't be because of performance. I guess that it's just because it's the kind of movie that should do especially well on streaming during October.

Went to see this on Saturday. Fun little movie and stayed very true to the style and feeling of the original. As others have said the plot could have been a bit more focused, but overall really fun flick. Not surprised it's doing so well at the box office.

Edit to add: The movie is also especially good among the recent trend of rebooting every franchise 20+ years later. Most of these reboots are junky blatant cash grabs, but this one was actually legitimately good.

got too late last night, only 30 mins left about to finish it. loving this movie right now though. has such an awesome 80's feel to it. the opening credit scene looks so much like the original. like if I didnt know who any of the actors were Id question which one it was

I found it kinda weird how the scene with the father it was like clay animation.

it's awesome so far, Im just about to finish it but feels like it will be joining Top Gun for good sequels after 30 years
there are too many horrible ones like Independence Day 2 for example lol

so happy this movie isn't trash.

in the midnight sea
Jeffrey Jones became a sex offender, hence the claymation + brutal death

Yeah work has dried up a bit for him, I think he actually got busted twice didn't he? Like he somehow made them believe it wasn't his kiddie porn or something and almost got away with it then it happened again? Or am I mistaking him for some other creep?

Looks like he pleaded 'no contest' to the initial charge which was dropped, and then failed to update his sex offender status twice after that. What a clown.

I was very pleasantly surprised as well. I really thought that it would be junk, but I think they did a great job with this one. They were able to capture the feeling of the original well enough that it felt authentic to me. It didn't feel like a "30 years later remake". I think this was in large part due to Michael Keaton and Wynona Ryder being able to maintain their characters very strongly. Keaton looks like he hasn't missed a beat, tbh.

Edit: god I can't believe it had actually been 36 years since the original was released.
