Best coach in AVS franchise history
He's definitely top 2, There is an argument for Crawford.
Best coach in AVS franchise history
I don't disagree with you at all. My point is that the Avs (GM, coach, MacK, Makar, etc.) have been held to a significantly lighter standard than other teams/managers/coaches/players that have come close and failed or only got oneWas and StL, so far, have also been 1 hit wonders. It takes a lot to win one, let alone more than one.
It took the craziest run you will ever see for the Kings to win 2 Cups with the same general group. An 0-3 comeback, three Game 7 wins on the road, and winning every home game in the Final in OT, all in the same playoff tournament. The Kings could've lost any one of those series(although they were up 3-1 against the Hawks) 1,000 different times in 1,000 different ways.
Cry me a f***ing river over this. There was a 1 point difference between Edmonton and Colorado which would've made this 3 vs 6 in the West. In the playoffs you have to play other good teams. Yea it's a tough matchup but at some point you have to win thoseLet's just remember it was 5th vs. 8th in the whole league and 3rd vs. 5 in the Western Conference that met in the first round. It was a tough matchup.
And frankly Dallas should have won the last game without all the comical plays on their goals against. Of the 7 goals against, two was Empty netters, and at least 3 or 4 was bouncing of all kinds of people.
Sorry, I have never heard that term. What does “wire to wire” mean? I assume he played like a high wire act?Makar was terrible, wire to wire in this series.

And if Jason Robertson and Miko Heiskenen are healthy, the Avs might not make it past game 5Not reading the whole thread, but here are my feelings on this.
Players, coaches, GM, all deserve equal share of the blame, but Bednar should take the fall.
MacFarland
The Good: Was a key cog in building the 2022 roster, was aggressive this year to fix holes and probably built the strongest team in the West on paper.
The Bad: Not re-signing Kadri is the biggest blunder since 2022. Could not find adequate replacement since, and forced us to give away Byram for nothing essentially, and Ryan Lindgren (Byram's replacement) was a huge factor on 2 goals against last night.
Bednar/staff
The Good: The Avs outplayed the Stars for most of the series. From a probability/analytics stance, they look great 5 on 5. He's one of the best coaches in the league. Got 50 wins almost using 50 different players this year.
The Bad: The PP single-handedly cost us the series. Has been consistently outcoached by Deboer. He's slow to make adjustments if he does at all. His strategy is usually just 'play Cale and Nate as much as possible'. He lacks 'feel' for his team. He is almost too cerebral - he doesn't have the ability to get the team fired up/motivated the way he needs to. Only passed the 2nd round once.
The Players
The series was lost in the first 3 games. Avs could have been up 2-1 if not 3-0. Lack of urgency and puck management is what ultimately caught up to them. Makar couldn't beat Oettinger.
All this said, if Cale Makar doesn't break his stick on a one-timer attempt, likely we aren't having this conversation and maybe the Avs go onto win the Cup. Those are the margins in hockey, and that's why it's the best. But it's also why a sober mind is necessary with this evaluation.
But it's likely going to take a couple more years before this team is ready to be serious contenders again, unless they find a way to land Sid. Most of their best trade chips are gone and lots of free agents and cap implications coming.
Came here to say this sometimes playoffs is about luck and the Avs and Minny didn't have it this post season. You make it sound like Bednar and his staff laced up their skates, took penalties and blew the lead.
At some point the players have to be held accountable too. I realize that if Av ownership decides to make a change then Bednar is the easiest to change, but the 3rd period failure doesn't solely rest on him and his staff.
AVs choked the hell out of this series
You gotta look at the GM for how this rantenan situation came back to them, too
Yeah. That's not what I'm seeing at all. Lots of blame to go all around. But, I do think coaching is the biggest issue.I don't disagree with you at all.
