Bednar has to be fired right?

Avs cup contending window has closed. No viable 2C, no young up and coming players and absolutely no prospects or 1st round picks til 2027. No one will give up value for the garbage they have left to offer.

CMac did a number on the Avs. Had he held onto Rants they would be in round 2 already.

Crazy to think the Stars were missing Robertson and Heiskenen and still won.

He just lost his 4th series vs DeBoer.
Pete DeBoer is a good coach and the Dallas organization has done a great job putting together a deep and talented team.

Bednar has had to deal with an Avs' organization that thought Georgiev was the answer and traded away Rantanen for .... reasons. On top of all that, one of the two Avs stars (Makar) has been noticeably pedestrian lately. So, no Kadri, no Rantanen, and Makar being present but unproductive, against a Dallas team that has been to the WCF in consecutive years.

But, yeah, fire Bednar if it makes folks in Denver feel any better. He'll get another job in a few nanoseconds. It's the rest of the Avs' organization that should be fired towards the vicinity of Neptune.

Can't blame Bednar for having shit personnel at the forward position.

You can blame MacFarland for the stars suddenly having a hell of fame level forward that always rises to the occasion though.

And let's be real - the Stars had nothing going until Rantanen put the team on his back in the third.

I don't see how you put that on Bednar at all.

Literally Rantanen was in on all of the stars last 10 goals in the series.

No guranteees Avs would still had beaten dallas then there is the issue that mikko walks at FA and still sign with dallas anyways.

Or - you sign Rantanen last summer like a competent management group would have.

See the Oilers and Draisaitl.

and colorado would still run into the same problem where they have to dump players just to even be able to afford to fill out the rest of the roster.

Don't know if the coaching staff will feel the wrath but it wouldn't be totally shocking to see management try to move blame from themselves

Well, just consider the Avs' choices to upgrade from Bednar. Let's see who is available ......

Peter Laviolette ... Cup pedigree
Greg Cronin ... Was on the verge of greatness
Dan Bylsma ... Also was on the verge of greatness
Mike Sullivan ... Sorry Rangers already got him
Rick Tocchet ... Can the Avs be the highest bidder?
Jay Woodcroft ... Got a raw deal in Edmonton
Luke Richardson ... Really turned Chicago around
John Tortorella ... Zen master of something something
Dave Hakstol ... Definitely available

So, it looks like the Avs either win the Tocchet lottery or it is one of these other fellas.

What coaching error cost Colorado the series?

Their refusal to recognize that the middle of the ice exists and that you can use it both offensively and defensively. Since Bednar and c have taken over the Avs focus on trying to intercept or deflect pucks around the net rather than trying to outright box players out around their net. It killed them against the Sharks, Vegas and the Stars…conveniently all of them coached by DeBoer.

Bednar’s not a bad coach, but it’s looking more and more like he needs a top tier team to win, but if a player doesn’t fit perfectly into his system he has no idea what to do with them. This happened at last years deadline when the Avs brought in a bunch of gritty depth. Bednar hated that since he likes to play fast but soft. Pressure but don’t body anyone.

The Avs were starting to look really good coming towards the playoffs, they had four lines rolling and confidence was building. Right around that time was when Bednar decided that he didn’t like having four operational lines, and decided to have 3 dysfunctional ones instead. The only line that stayed together was the fourth line.

Colorado is a vet team so I honestly believe Torts would do well there. He and Mack would have a great back and forth relationship and that isn't even sarcasm.

I still don't know what to believe about Richardson. I want to believe there is a good coach there and prime Scotty Bowman couldn't have done much with that Chicago roster

Tocchet and Woodcroft are kind of in the meh category but above the rest for me. I'd be shocked to not see Tocchet in Philly though

Tocchet is not an upgrade... lmao

Frankly none of those are even serious suggestions. I'll be furious if it's someone on that list

The Avs could always look outside the box and go with somebody who is long overdue for a HC position: Leah Hextall. She knows a lot about hockey as she proves to us every week, and it is long past time to break the male HC bottleneck.
