I really don't understand why this is so controversial. How is this not similar to Crosby and Ovechkin ? Nobody laughed when someone said they would take Ovechkin over Crosby back in 2006. Or vise versa.

It could end up being a toss up between the two.

I think Bedard will end up being a more complete player and will rack up just as much personal hardware as McDavid will and will turn out to be a more valuable player than McDavid. But I could be wrong of course.

Bedard beat McDavid in points in junior in a more defensively sound league (WHL vs OHL) and beat him in points by almost a ppg in international play.

It is all right here Connor Bedard vs Connor McDavid stats comparison - Gino Hard

Choose your fighter. I am choosing Bedard.

Good for you.

I'm sure back in 1993 you'd have taken Alexandre Daigle, who had 15 points in his first 11 games, over Jaromir Jagr, who had 13.
Lol you just compared Connor Bedard to Alexandre Daigle on the internet. And the internet is never going to forget.

Unless you use that edit button soon. You still have a chance... You have a small window...

It's controversial because one guy has played like 15 games in his career.
McDavid was basically a hall of famer before he stepped on NHL ice. At the time I questioned it. But they weren't wrong. Bedard is not that different. So these kinds of takes are basically nonsense.

Bedard will not be as good as McDavid

He will not win more hardware

He will surpass McDavids shot.

Speed, playmaking, stickhandling, size are things he will never surpass

The analogy made sense. Don’t get too worked up.
The analogy is no different than comparing Connor McDavid to Alexandre Daigle in 2015. Or Sidney Crosby to Alexandre Daigle in 2005. It would have been called trolling in those cases back then. But for some strange reason, it is not being called trolling now. People apparently seem to believe this.

I am just fascinated as to why.

Hard to see Bedard to match/be better than Mcdavid, but this comparison will propably be lot closer than earlier mentioned Crosby vs Ovexhkin comparison for example both of these players are top level hockey talent's so its not so one sided.

Bedard could be winning the Rocket as early as next season. The big advantage he has is Chicago is a much better run organization than Edmonton and also a more desirable location for players.

Bedard averaged 2 ppg averaged over his junior career.

McDavid averaged 1.7 ppg averaged over is junior career.

In international play, Bedard got 36 points in 15 games, Mcdavid got 15 points in 14 games.

Right up to today, Bedard already has a 4 point game in his rookie season. Mcdavid never had more than 3.

What's there to "Lol" about ?

McDavid had a 5 pt game in his rookie season.

Bedard will definitely be a better goal scorer than McDavid, but he'll have to play out the next few seasons to see how his overall game develops.

We’ll see. The easiest part is tearing it down for a rebuild. Things are trending nicely so far if I’m being honest but there’s still a long way to go before they’re a competitive team.

It’s still so early with Bedard and none of us know what he’s fully capable of yet. He’s still learning himself. He’s going to have to win a ton of trophies to even make the comparison a legit discussion.

Nobody questioned what McDavid was fully capable before he set foot on NHL ice but now you are siting here questioning what Bedard is capable of even with the foresight that Bedard beat McDavid in junior. It makes zero sense. And is nothing but tripe.

McDavid has the 4th highest points per game and assists per game in NHL history, has won 5 Art Ross Trophies, 4 Ted Lindsey awards, 3 Hart Trophies, a Rocket, has scored over 60 goals in a season, has scored over 150 points in a season. He has done all this by the age of 27.

Bedard has a lot to do in the NHL before he is even comparable to McDavid.

Yeah you might have a case if Bedard was leading the league in points by a mile right now, buuuut he isn't even close.

Also, they're like 8 years apart genius.

Team success>personal awards. I'd like to see McDavid dial back the offense and concentrate more on setting the example of a complete 200 foot game. But at this point in his career doesn't look like that will ever happen at least not playing for the Oilers.

The analogy works because you're talking in hindsight. Alexander Daigle was not a bust in 1993.
