I'm expecting him to get a massive contract if he signs longterm. Let's face it, the team hasn't exactly ingratiated themselves to him by giving him mostly crap to play with. As such, I doubt he's in a mood to give us cap savings.

He either signs longterm to a huge, $12/13m+ deal or or signs a bridge making me worried about him moving when he has the chance.

This hits on a question I have for hawks fans. Purely hypothetical and very unlikely to happen but is there a number that, if offer sheeted you would walk away from and take the 4 first rounders?

No chance. Just assume the worst and say each one is in the 15 to 32 range. The likelihood you get 4 NHL players out of that is slim. I’d just rather keep our star player. Let’s just use 4 Hawks recently drafted players as an example. Would I trade Bedard for Nazar, Moore, Boisvert, and Vanacker. Easy no.

Hawks will be fine

The way we are developing D men is reminiscent of the last rebuild and subsequent monster of a team we had. Now that we remembered how to develop D after a decade plus long inability to do so, any of my concerns are alleviated

If Davidson isn’t the guy, which is still to be determined, then someone else can finish the job and take us to the next level

Getting the generational talent and development of D men were always gonna be the biggest questions. Now it’s just a matter of patience and not doing anything stupid

Vlasic doesn't change this, they need KK/Lev etc to develop into top 4 defensemen and be well above average at that given the draft capital they spent on them

We need to see a few monster years from Bedard before we put him into the generational category, there are a lot of really really good players out there that he hasn't surpassed yet, he had generational junior production but that doesn't mean it will be that way in the NHL

The fact that Crevier is coming along and so is Allen says something they are doing is working

Those two you mentioned and Rinzel are clearly the prized pigs but all indications are those two are coming along in Rockford

just want to see it translate into more wins than losses before giving them credit for knowing what they're doing development wise, they kept Korchinski in the NHL last year instead of sending him back which proved to be idiotic in hindsight and at the time plenty of people said he should go back...personally think Rinzel is the real prize and will end up being the best one out of the group but most pipelines probably have a Crevier/Allan type

Yeah was not a fan of Korch getting tied to an anchor for a partner last year when he shouldn’t have been up to begin with

As far as wins and losses that’s gonna happen with a rookie head coach a bunch of rookie D men and forwards. We literally have no one in their prime worth a damn other than Bert or Jones

I doubt Bedard"s camp would accept that...probably wants a shorter bridge deal ..knowing that by end of that 2nd cobtract Hawks by THEN shoukd be a better team stocked deeper in talent ..So probably look forcax3 yr .deal at 7 million per...I know ..Bedardcas a 1C has FLAWS...cannot win draws..defending the d-zobexa problem and shotsvon goalvavlow 2.5 per game..so Goal scoringblimited to the 20s instead of the 30s or higher..

But even though he is a big minuscpkayer at evens, still on pace for 70+ pts...the usual pay scale is $1milluon per every 10 points then they just ignore any flaws...but if you score 90+poibts and are a good+/- you get more than the going rate of "just" $1million per every 10 points ..

If Bedard getsc80 +pts next sesdon hecwill get over $8mil per ..If he gets over 90+ poibts next srason and reduces hos +/- negative in half...maybevthen they lock home yearsxatvover $10mil a season..
However..I think his camp will want a shorter 3 maybe 4 yr deal only at $7-10 million per ...betting on himself to get nettervinalk areas andvto benefit of the team getgibg more talent around him in this next phase with him.

Then OF he becomes a top ten orctopb5 scorervintge league he coukd demand a Max. Contract for 8 more years.. atxage 24 ior 25 ,for his 3rd contract .

Plenty of optimism above. I wish I could share it.
