Also, Harbaugh will want to go somewhere that he has more control over

Poles would not give Harbaugh full control of roster, etc that he could demand and receive elsewhere

Penix has a worrisome health history and is 24 in may. That seems like a bad combination.

will say that unless the offers to move down are incredible kind of expect poles to go chalk at one and take caleb, long term trade down a spot or two is probably the best play if it nets them another 1st and/or recoups their early 2nd this year

You said "I stand by what I said then, I think Daniels is a better QB than Williams/Maye". You said that in November.

As well as, on Dec 21st, "I am dying on this hill, I prefer Justin Fields over Caleb Williams".

Caleb hasn't played a game since November so I am guessing that you have changed your stance on Fields.
I have changed my mind of Fields to a degree. The Bears screwed him over by not hiring anybody who actually knows what they are doing in developing QBs. Blame does fall on Fields for never showing up when the Bears needed him the most. We all know his weaknesses, I was hoping he would overcome them. It's time to cut bait. You happy?

With that said, I'm not sold on Caleb Williams. I know after being wrong on Fields (not the first time I am wrong or will it be the last), me making any declarations about Williams should be taken with an eye roll, grain of salt and I deserve it but I still can't shake the feeling that he does not want to be in Chicago. Maybe if the Bears keep the pick, Caleb will warm up to Chicago, but right now, I have my doubts. We all have players that we are not bullish on, is Caleb Williams is mine.

I’d also feel better about moving on from fields if I believed more in Williams.
if they trade down and still land maye/daniels and say they bomb, they're going to be in a position to draft another qb immediately in sanders and ewers in 25 and still net the assets from trading down, thats the absolute worst case scenario where they bomb, the upside is you trade down and net the assets plus maye is herbert and/or daniels is stroud but with a lamar type run game, so just pass on caleb if there is a sliver of doubt to net the extra assets and pick whoever doesn't go at 2 or if there is a strong preference go to 2 and pick them, doesn't have to be just a caleb discussion, there are multiple interesting qbs at top of draft and washington might pay a heavy ransom for caleb because he's a hometown kid and its new ownership (like carolina)

If the Bears don't get rid of Flus, are there any up-and-coming OC out there? Or should they just nab whomever from San Francisco since that seems like a solid plan for everyone else?

this is sort of the problem with keeping flus, lets say they hire a bright OC who does well with a new qb, in that case they're probably not moving on from flus assuming they win games and good young OCs are a hot commodity so said OC will probably leave and they're back to square one, thats why they should move on from flus now for an OC to be HC (Slowick/Johnson), you know if they have success they're not leaving so you have that coach/qb combo going long term, but they won't do this because they're the bears, they'll keep a lameduck staff with zero offensive pedigree trying to fight for their jobs with a rookie qb

Brian Griese and Klint Kubiak would be the possible OC candidates out of San Francisco I'd think

I have been wrong plenty too. I thought DK Metcalf was going to be terrible. I'm not happy Fields wasn't the guy. I'd much rather him be a superstar, but he isn't, so we move on and nothing really happened in GB that should have changed any of our opinions. He has always been that guy.

Also I think just try ignore all the hoopla Dad comments and twitter likes and just watch the tape. If you like someone's tape better than Williams 3 year tape then that's okay you're entitled to that just don't do it off the TMZ stuff.

Daniels 2023 tape is pretty damn good

At #9, I really think the Bears will have one of:

Nabers (unlikely)
Odunze (fairly likely)
Edge1 (fairly likely)

given the following needs (just listing the top 2/3 needs unless the pick is obvious (e.g. Commies, Pats)) and picks:

Bears (QB, WR, Edge) -> Williams
Commanders (QB) -> Maye
Patriots (QB) -> Daniels
Cardinals (WR) -> MHJ (far from their only need, but MHJ is borderline mythological at this point so they aren't going Edge

I think the top 4 is pretty set in stone barring something very unexpected (e.g. Jalen Carter situation) coming out in the next 4 months.

Chargers (RT, WR) -> Joe Alt (/Nabers)

This one is debatable. I think the Chargers will want to solidify their line and pick one of the better OT prospects in recent years, and then I think they'll start him at RT with Slater on the LT for the time being. They could go Nabers, but positional value is too high, and Alt has been too good. I could also see them trade down and draft Fuaga, since he's the best RT in the draft. If someone trades up to #5, I think that team will go Alt.

Giants (OT, WR) -> Fashanu

Again, debatable. The Giants WR core kinda sucks. What sucks more is their line. They took a shot at Evan Neal 2 years ago, and he has legitimately been one of the worst tackles in the league these two years. They will reset with Fashanu.

Titans (OT) -> Fuaga

Just like the two preceding teams, the Titans has one of the worst offensive lines in football. They are going to prioritize protecting their young QB over giving him another weapon in the first round, especially given the depth at WR this year.

Falcons (QB, Edge, WR) -> Penix Jr. (/Nabers/Odunze/Turner/Verse)

This one is extremely debatable. They need a QB desperately. Maybe they go Fields and give him another weapon in addition to Pitts and London? Maybe they go with the top edge in Turner or Verse (or Latu pending medicals). Or they pull a Pitts again, draft Bowers, and don't get him the ball.

Bears (Edge, WR) -> Nabers/Odunze/Turner/Verse

Again, exercise in futility until after the combine, but as of right now I think the Bears will have some exciting players available at #9, and ultimately end up with Edge1 or a super exciting WR. Or, if both Nabers and Odunze are off the board, there is a good chance that OT2 is still on the board, in which case I'd say trade down.

6, 8, 12, 13, 14 look like the most obvious trade down spots
or hope washington is dead set on caleb and make them pay a heavy price to get him back home

the pick at 9...poles doesn't seem like the kind of guy to prioritize a WR over an edge rusher if the player values are equal, but if nabers or odunze are there that would be a fun pair with dj and a new qb

I tell ya what, I will keep an open mind on Caleb Williams. I still think a trade down is preferable but if the Bears decide to keep the pick and take Caleb, I'll root for him to be a success. Either way, the Bears should considered trading down with one of the picks, and I hope they do.

It would be awesome if we commit to the new QB route and a were able to package Fields with the 9th to move to that QB needy team ahead that misses on Caleb/Drake. HIGHLY doubt, but would be cool.

Is it me or does it feel like Poles kind of tip his hand here when he talked about 'adding more future ammo' given where they sit in the draft...Either they're sticking with Fields or they have Maye/Daniels projected evenly with Caleb and are fine swapping with Pats/DC for future picks + some mid round picks this year...the thing about Daniels is you still get the elite run game that Fields brings but maybe just maybe that pass game he had at LSU this year translates and its a clear homerun trade assuming Caleb is more Dak than Mahomes

I agree. His 1 year tape is good. To me he is going to be a one read and tuck guy at the next level though.
I'm not going to say he will not be but I'm curious why you think he will be...to me his upside is Stroud in the pass game with a run game element that could be Lamar esque...but thats why you get the unprotected 1st to roll the dice on the next class if he fizzles out
