OT: Bears & NFL Talk 104 (2025 Draft edition)

New hope: Poles remembers that the less bad running back on the roster is a bad hit away from early retirement and grabs a UDFA RB to fill out the roster. That RB has functioning eyes and non-zero contact balance and becomes RB1 next season.

Poles worst draft. Going into the next wave of FA, still need #1 RB, #1 LT, #3 DE, #3 S, #3 LB... all were available during the draft at points, but passed over for receiving options #4 & #5, DT #4 and a whole lot of special teamers

I don't understand the day 3 picks. Seem like the "smartest guy in the room" selections which I hate. As a Bruins fan, I get enough of that with Sweeney. There's no telling how they'll play out at this point but these feel like shitty choices

Only pick I didn't understand was Hyppolite. Everything else is typical day 3 shot in the dark, hope for the best picks that im fine with.

Why did I expect this year to be different. Every year, after the draft, there is an immediately knee jerk reaction the Bears draft and it's annoying.

Just admit it. Poles did not draft the guys you wanted and stop disguising it as Poles not drafting for need. It is quite possible they (or more specifically Dennis Allen) did not like any of the Edge players enough to warrant drafting any of those players. It is also possible the Bears did try for Edge or RB and was beaten to the punch and they had to pivot.

My guess is that 2026 will be defensive heavy draft for the Bears.

Can we please give these players a chance to prove themselves before declaring this a bad draft?

It’s not the guys per se. It’s the failure to address the key position of need

Overall i try to focus on the position rather than the player because that’s what I think is more evaluatable for a fan.

Im fine with getting another weapon but two? With your top two picks? I felt like if you go TE in round 1, prob don’t make the Burden pick. And I really like Burden.

Would have liked to see RB a little earlier but definitely am happy we didn’t move assets for Jeanty.

Prob wish it was Mykell Williams and then Burden. Or Loveland and then one of the edges in round 2.

But I’ll trust Ben Johnson at the end of the day. I’m still no Poles guy. He’s got a ways to go before I just blind trust him.
