I know this is going to piss people off but Poles not going to get fired, but I bet he gets a short term extension (2 years) because of Caleb Williams. The reason? As mentioned in this thread, no coach is going to sign up to work with a lame duck GM, so I think the Bears will grant him that extension to take him off lame duck status.

With that said, I really don't want a new GM so quckly after hiring Poles. 3 years is too quick, imo. New GM may not want Caleb Williams and that person may want to burn it down and began anew. I don't want that. I rather see Poles cook for 2 more years than to see a new GM burn it down.

I know this is not a popular opinion but I think Poles getting a small entension is more likely than him getting fired. Quite frankly, I don't think Poles has done enough to warrant getting fired, despite the knee jerk reactions.

In a vacuum Poles has done “enough” to not get fired. But keeping Flus alone is enough to be fired. Writing was on the wall last year. That doesn’t even get into the history of this organization.

I really don’t want to struggle to attract a great HC because the GM might be on the hot seat.

Also look I like what I’ve seen from Thomas Brown, both on the field and personality wise. But I’m not so sure about keeping him. He would have to be the HC.

wouldn't be the worst thing to can Flus and let Brown ride out the year as HC to see how it goes.

Season is already in the shitter so imo let Brown focus on making the offense passable and let Eberflus fall on his goofy ass every week so long as he isn't interfering with Caleb's development
There are a few reasons why making Browns the interim head coach if you fire Eberflus is a bad idea.

1. The interim coach bump can be a massive mirage and lead to promoting an interim coach who isn't actually that good (see Pierce this year).

2. It means Brown is for sure out if he's not the next head coach. No coach is going from interim head coach back down to OC in the same organization.

3. It disrupts the stability for QB1 again, where Brown has to move down to the sideline and focus on the whole team instead of mainly on him.

If they do can Eberflus, I think Washington is the preferable option for interim head coach.

It's 6 games left, all of which the Bears will be underdogs in, unless GB is resting starters in the finale.

The Bears obviously have the expectation of not firing coaches mid-seasons. Just let him ride it out so Brown can focus on as much growth for CW as possible during the final stretch.

If CW still looked miserable, I would say then fire him, but the last two games he looks like he's playing with excitement and enthusiasm again.

Nick Mullens really went out against the Eberflus defense, stared them down, completed a 3rd and 13, and left.

Really happy the Bears ended up with Odunze over Nabers.

I'd bet you Nabers runs his mouth so much he's on a different team in less than 3 years from now.
He's a whole lot. He comes across as VERY young. Seems the character concerns before the draft were not unfounded.

On the other hand, Odunze seems awesome. Very easy going, despite not seeing anywhere near the number of targets he should.

If he becomes the primary target next season on most routes that aren't a screen or shallow to Moore, he's going to shine.

You can't throw aside the success Brown and Caleb have had, and the way Brown talks is very HC like. But its been two weeks. If they finish the season like they have, its going to be a hard decision to navigate.

I just don't think you're going to get a great HC by saying you have to work with this OC. You're also not going to get to keep Thomas Brown if you hire a Ben Johnson type. Sooo.. Unless he is the HC I'm not sure how you keep him.

I'm willing to wait and see with Brown. He was a SUPER HOT candidate before going to the Panthers last season. That debacle obviously set him back, but what he's doing by really just fixing issues with Waldron's system is pretty impressive through two games.

Positives of going through the wringer now. They are way past the easy part of the schedule. The "easiest" game left on the schedule is either against the 49ers in Santa Clara, or against the Seahawks at home. If the offense looks good through these last 6 games, give him serious consideration.

Was the Vikings game the first time since the Colts game (specifically the throw to Odunze that resulted in an interception) that we saw Williams throw multiple risky throws in tight windows that ended up being massive gains?

Excepting perhaps in do-or-die situations, I think it might have.

Brings me back to how I think being overly conservative in guarding against interceptions for a rookie is dumb. I want Williams to test those windows in years 1 and 2, so that he knows whether a window is NFL open for his arm in year 3 and beyond.

Thankfully we'll have a few more weeks to see how Brown does and hopefully he makes whatever the decision ends up being easier to make.

But yeah, worst case scenario is he remains OC per Poles order but under a new HC, which would be about as Bears as it gets. At that point I'd rather they just promote Brown to HC.

I'm not sure what's confusing about what I said.

Nvm.

This is like how the Blackhawks have scored on every PowerPlay they have had the last 5 games.

They had 1 PowerPlay. You gotta get there/avoid it for it to matter that much.

Great they had a int and turnover on downs vs the Packers in the redzone. I think GB punted 1 time though. Had the fumble vs the Vikings, but they were in the redzone with ease.

could see Slowik and Kliff getting consideration with Johnson going to coach Burrow, shine has maybe come off some on Slowik but ton of injuries to key players this year

We’ll see how the remainder of the season goes, but right now I’d rather see them promote Brown vs going with Slowik or Kliff as HC.
are there any stud DCs that could jump to HC? cant hire this guy as a hc on a half season sample and flus obviously needs to go
