Some of us were advocates of that idea. I know @hawksrule and myself were 2 of them even though I liked Williams coming out. Never thought this team was a Caleb Williams away from contending with all of the holes they still need to address and figured they should fill those holes and then draft their QB of the future. But the good news is that the Bears do have their QB of the future NOW which I haven't said since I became a Bears fan in 2000. The bad news is once again they've done a terrible job of protecting him, giving him poor coaching and likely stunting his development a bit.

The real opinion for me at least is the Bears should've also done what I said once they announced they were keeping the pick. They should've got rid of Matt Eberflus immediately and started over.
I am no NFL scout, but I had reservations because he simply didn’t look that good last year, looked bad in the big games, and my hunch was what allowed him to excel in college may not translate to the NFL. And we could’ve gotten an insane return for the pick that would have dwarfed what we got for Bryce Young. I’ve been pretty quiet about Caleb since the season started, at times he’s looked good, at times he’s looked terrible, which isn’t surprising for a rookie. His accuracy concerns me, as that was supposed to be one of his strengths. In his defense, he has a terrible line and terrible coaching, although that doesn’t explain away all of his troubles so far. I don’t know, jury is out, and there’s no other option other than hoping he becomes a Hall of Famer and that my concerns were misplaced.
