Wow, that was some second period from New Jersey. I thought the Bruins had the better chances in the first period, then Carlo turned it over and they scored and all of a sudden the Bruins couldn't do anything right for 15 minutes.

Marchand-Coyle-Poitras was the only line on the Bruins that was positive in shot attempts, fwiw. They outshot NJ 10-5.

The Bruins did have some great chances. Pasta in alone in the first, Brazeau off the post 2on1, Lindholm to Wahlstrom was a great save, Marchand and Poitras 2on1, Coyle shorthanded breakaway... Just not nearly enough, and didn't defend nearly well enough.

OT: Keefe is a very good coach. He was the first guy in the NHL to run 3 forwards out high 5on5 and that formation gives the Bruins fits and is very hard to defend in a box+1.

Most exciting sequence of the game was when the Devils got 8 shots in 4 minutes in the second. World class goaltending by Swayman there. That was fun to watch.

Team is shit. Hard to evaluate this team without Hampus and McAvoy, but I think they should aggressively retool and come back next year. Elias Lindholm is going to kill this team for years what an absolute disaster that contract is. I remember people on this board, over a decade ago, killing Chris Kelly for making 3M as a 3C and saying that’s the hamstring contract of the team. LOL. I raise you Elias Lindholm at 8m! Objectively horrific.

Marchand retires a Bruin I don't care about anything else.

Bruins look like a diamond most nights killing penalties

Marchand making over 6 so taking a good pay cut to do it.He does that & it's all good with me.I would imagine they ask him however what he wants to do though.

Sure, and you’re absolutely right. He deserves whatever he wants to do. I selfishly just want to see him retire a lifelong Bruin and go up in the rafters right next to 37 where he belongs.

I think he makes rafters no matter what.Saw it with Bourque. That said him & Bergeron are tight and he may want to go out exact same way and be remembered as a top duo in NHL history that both played entire career with 1 franchise.Brad played here for less so would not shock me.

Not much to say, but at the same time, there's a lot to say.

Game started off slow because both teams were out of whack due to the Lemaire ceremony burning an extra half hour before puck drop which makes sense.

The problem is the Devils eventually woke up. Boston didn't

7 penalties, with i'd say at least 5 of them being out of pure laziness. Giving the number 2 PP in the league that many chances is going to end poorly regardless if you're the Bruins, or a team actually worth their weight like the Jets. Swayman was good but you simply cannot expect your goalie to consistently get outshot by 10+ every night and just for him to win games on his own. Fun stat from a beat writer;

Devils generated 13 high-danger scoring chances in 45:05 of 5-on-5 ice time tonight. Just about any goalie was going to be doomed with that structure (or lack thereof) in front of them.

The Bruins have given up 13 or more 5-on-5 high-danger chances eight times this season. Six of [those games] have come since Christmas, in a span of just 13 games.

The season isn't over yet but the fact everyone around the Bruins are getting better and Boston well, isn't is not a good omen. Columbus crushed the Leafs tonight to move to 10-3-1 in their last 14 games. Tampa is only a point up but they have 3 games in hand because of the hurricane hammering Florida to open their season. Montreal is like 13-3-1 in their last 16 games and even Ottawa despite losing Ullmark before the end of december have managed to stay afloat.

The last thing you can realistically hope for is a healthy McAvoy and Lindholm slotting back in helps stabilize the lineup. Charlie obviously has played below his standard but having him at what he's been at is still infinitely better than playing f***ing Zadorov and Peeke as your top pairing. If they come back and things stay the same, then it's time to have some introspection as the deadline looms.

They’re shit.

Have a conversation with 63 and see what he wants to do. Give him the opportunity to chase a cup in Colorado and come back in free agency or something.
What if he says he doesn’t want to be traded?

Then, what if his agent says he won’t sign for less than $6.5mil. What then?

i *really* hope Sweeney doesN'T move picks or any of the "prospects" for short term help to try to cool off the seat under his ass

edited so i'm not saying the exact opposite of what i meant

It's quite obviously a question of foot speed and skill. How many on this board celebrated that the team was finally getting big and bad this offseason?

The team just can't cope with even a half-decent forecheck (couldn't with McAvoy healthy either), can't get through the neutral zone fast enough to be a threat nor get in on the forecheck fast enough to establish any sort of pressure. Too slow, too sluggish. Start thinking about next year, this group has too many holes to recover.

Obviously disappointed but a part of me loves seeing the vets fail to out-score their mistakes after Neely’s comment.
