Post-Game Talk: Be still my Oily heart

This is what I want as well. If they really feel like they need Emberson on the Pk, then go 11-7 and sit Arvidsson or Frederic

Yeah going 11-7 makes a lot of sense actually, especially if Stecher comes back, and they still want Emberson for PK-only duty. Frederic has done N-O-T-H-I-N-G and is very clearly still hurt. We aren't going to miss his 9 minutes of nothing, and having 7 D would help out our D quite a bit.

I actually think his skating is ... ok. Shows on NHLEdge as 54 percentile top speed and 69 percentile burst >20 MPH (though massively small sample size): NHL EDGE Puck and Player Tracking Statistics - Skaters

Think its more of a mobility challenge with his pivots still compromised from significant surgery. Awkward when pivoting that may present as slow to some degree. But we see a player with high calm and poise in his game, his brain, helping to make up for footwork. Not a perfect player who still has some high risk decision making but this player delivering stable, quality minutes is an unsung aspect of this series with Ekholm out.
Colonel Klink has some skill.

A good offence helps your defence though! It's always better to play with the puck on your stick in the Ozone, but yes the line combos are only part of it. The team (MCD aside) seems to come out too flat and unfocused. This is very concerning. It could have been 3-0 LAK after 1 and the game would have been over.
For sure its better to have the puck on your stick but they need to make sure they are managing it responsibly.
Here's the other thing for me.
This team tends to prioritize offence to the point that they cheat for offence.
Thats where we see these breakdowns and 10 bell chances given up off the rush..

That area of their game has been pretty sloppy in this series so far.
IMO they arent going to win much of anything unless they clean that up.

So I agree with that its all about focus and its very concerning.

Coming back to win 2 at home is great and all... but we still haven't managed to beat the Kings and the damn Harmonicas in their own barn where they are dominant this year. Game 5 is HUGE. Hopefully the Oilers can start on damn time for once.

I disagree with you. Oilers had a post and Hyman / Drai missed wide open nets.

HDSC aren’t bogus… come on.
Yeah they are. I have posted about it a few times now.
The HDSC stat that we have available to us isnt nearly granular enough to provide accurate/usable information.

A couple of examples....
It counts uncontested shots the same as a contested shot.
Its all about location for that stat. The reality is that uncontested shots are not equal to contested shots regardless of location.
It also counts a shot slammmed into a goalies pads from 6 inches as a HDSC when in reality it has little to no chance of going in.

Kevin Woodly talks about these major flaws in the HDSC stats all the time.

He had some good stretches but overall it was not a great season for Nurse and he’s been terrible in the playoffs
5 vs 5 his GA/60, xGA/60, xG%, HDCF/60, HDCF%, HDGA/60 and HDGF% were the best of his career. GA/60 and SCA/60 were the second best of his career. He had the highest 1st assists and 3rd highest 5 vs 5 assists of his career.

Either an accurate description of 3 of these games, or Evan Bouchard, take your pick.

TBH they have to listen to our goal *song* all the time and "clap your hands" and all the assorted dreck we play in the rink here.

Man, if the Oilers could change their goal song one more time. They used to change it every year and its seems we've had this one for 20yrs.

hey Oilers! Change is good donkey!

Yeah and maybe sitting two more weeks would make him actually useful if he can heal more. Or dress Jeff Skinner.

Yep. I see it in the drop down at the top. At the end of the day, he's been poor, very poor. I get the PK part being more difficult and more prone to having worse defensive metrics but he's a big reason its THAT bad
He has been that bad, that we don’t need to post stuff that doesn’t actually show the story.

Unless you think Ekholm being only +1 this year to Bouchard being +58 is comparable
