2014-2015 (1st season)

:sc09:

1st Round

:pens VS :caps

The second best team VS the fourth best team in the league, opponents in the first round :amazed:

Orpik and Niskanen against they former team.

Game 1 => Capitals 5 @ 4 Penguins (OT) . Blow a 3-0 lead but Burakovsky out of the box (serving Brouwer) and then he scores the GWG in the 1st OT.
Game 2 => Capitals 5 @ 4 Penguins (OT) . Backstrom sends it to OT in the last minute and Ovi wins it. Important players make the difference.
Game 3 => Penguins 3 @ 4 Capitals (OT) . Another OT. Kuznetsov scores on PPG (5on4) but I also had an opportunity to finish it on 5on3.
Game 4 => Penguins 5 @ 2 Capitals . It was more a boxing match than a hockey game. I just cannot sweep the opponents.
Game 5 => Capitals 2 @ 1 Penguins (OT) . Backstrom wins it. 4 W in OT.

The goal is reached, we're in the second round.

2nd Round

:caps VS :flyers

Game 1 => Flyers 1 @ 3 Capitals
Game 2 => Flyers 2 @ 1 Capitals
Game 3 => Capitals 1 @ 2 Flyers (OT) . Simmonds scores on PP.
Game 4 => Capitals 3 @ 1 Flyers
Game 5 => Flyers 0 @ 3 Capitals
Game 6 => Capitals 2 @ 1 Flyers. Holtby injured and will miss the opening games of the next round.

Eastern Conference Final

:caps VS :sens

The capital cities clash.

Game 1 => Senators 4 @ 2 Capitals . Grubaueur was recalled but lost this game.
Game 2 => Senators 3 @ 0 Capitals . Thomas played this one.
Game 3 => Capitals 3 @ 2 Senators . 3rd game, 3rd goalie. Finally Holtby is back.
Game 4 => Capitals 4 @ 1 Senators
Game 5 => Senators 2 @ 4 Capitals . First W for the home team in the series. Ward ties the game with 5 minutes to go. MoJo wins it 3 minutes later. And we added a PPG EN.
Game 6 => Capitals 3 @ 4 Senators (OT) . Hoffman scores
Game 7 => Senators 2 @ 3 Capitals . Ovi scores the GWG.

Prince Wales is ours.

Stanley Cup Final

:caps VS :blues

Game 1 => Blues 1 @ 3 Capitals . Burakovsky injured and will miss the rest of the season.
Game 2 => Blues 2 @ 3 Capitals (2OT) . Ovi wins it in the start of the second OT, Holtby with 48 saves.
Game 3 => Capitals 0 @ 7 Blues . Well 1st period collapse.
Game 4 => Capitals 2 @ 0 Blues . Holtby huge performance. One win away from the cup.
Game 5 => Blues 3 @ 1 Capitals
Game 6 => Capitals 2 @ 3 Blues . Bouwmeester ties it with 47 seconds left and Steen wins it 10 seconds later. Heartbreaking loss, we were just 47 seconds away from the cup. :cry:
Game 7 => Blues 3 @ 2 Capitals . Laich ties it once, Ovi twice after they took 2-1 lead on their 3rd consecutive PP, but Schwartz redirect with 4:43 to go is the Cup winning goal. :cry:

Up 3-1 and I let the cup fly away. :cry: Stastny Conn Smythe.

Rod Brind'Amour, Seattle Totems part ways

Rod Brind'Amour has been named the new GM of the Edmonton Oilers. Seattle is still searching for a replacement.

While the owners were happy getting to the playoffs, it apparently was not enough as they did not even offer him a new contract. Brind'Amour received offers from Edmonton, New Jersey, Florida, Dallas, and Ottawa.

At the start of the draft I had the 12th and 13th overall pick. I had just one chance to get the 1st pick. I hesitated between propose to Canes 1st VS 12th +13th or 1st VS 12th+M.Johansson but they were not interested in MoJo. Arizona selected M.Shields 2nd, J.Fleschler 3rd for WPG, J.Morrissey for MTL and CGY complete the TOP 5 with M.Barzal. Carolina took L.Guindon and K.Lankinen 12th and 13th. Toronto make good decisions with 7th place T.Konechny and just on the 19th place D.Strome :amazed:

During the draft, between differents rounds Vancouver, Nashville, Detroit, Anaheim and Pittsburgh wanted to acquire Tom Wilson against their 1st round pick in 2016 draft, but I refused all propositions.

i'm a bit confused on why you swapped so many draft picks :shakehead

Because I'm pretty sure that I will make a deep run in PO (every year), but I want to draft as high as possible. Of course I can have a bad year, and it will be a failure.

So at the start of the year, where it's easy to exchange picks, I trade some. And at the deadline, I'll also try to acquire picks in TOP 5-10

2018/2019 Season Review:

Going back-to-back was always going to be tough. We had to deal with a few niggling injuries, usually to defencemen. As such, I made the move on deadline day to acquire Kronwall and Higgins from Calgary in return for Severson, a 6th and a 7th. This proved to be key for us down the stretch as we overhauled Edmonton to win the Presidents' again (56-23-3 record) and set up a date with the Panthers in round 1.

Moodie started as he was annoyed with missing out on the Conn Smythe last season and we got by Florida in five. Philly proved a tough nut to crack as we ended up going to game seven after being up 3-0 in the series, but Eichel came up big, scoring a pair of goals as we finally finished off the Flyers. Ottawa was next up and while they took us to six games, we weren't really under threat at any point as we managed to strangle their stars, Ryan and Karlsson, when it really mattered.

So all that stood between us defending the title was Edmonton. They looked down and out in the conference finals against Colorado, losing the first three games. However they rallied back to win game seven in OT to reach the SC finals.

The series proved tight nearly every game, with three games needing OT to determine the victor. Game six was all we needed though as the boys turned on the heat to come away with a 4-2 win and secure the Cup for the second straight year :handclap: :yo:

Hamilton couldn't repeat his heroics of the previous season in terms of winning the Hart and Art Ross so he had to be content with just the Norris instead (still scored 90 points, what a beast) as Moodie pinched the Conn Smythe this time round. The AHL team made it to the Calder final, but lost to Charlotte in six games.

Both Niklas Kronwall and Marc Methot decided to ride off into the sunset, having won the Cup one last time. Chicago might be in strife for a little while since they lost Sharp and Keith.

All in all, a fantastic season for the organisation, but we're now faced with some tough decisions....

2019/2020 Season Preview:

Alas, like all good things, the shakeup was due given guys like Aberg, Eichel, Henrique, Jensen, Walker, Gagnon, Gelinas, Khudobin and Matthias were in their final year. I'd like to have kept all of them, but with our two most promising d-men prospects likely being ready for the 2019/2020 season, changes had to be made anyway.

Burning through those phone batteries like a boss, the New Jersey Devils will start the season looking like this, with 2 mill in hand (81.9 is the upper limit)....that'll be needed when Dougie's contract is up this year.

2019/2020 Opening Night Lineup:

A. Steen (87 TWF) - J. Eichel (92 PLY) - N. Jensen (89 SNP)
B. MacIntyre (85 SNP) - A. Henrique (85 TWF) - J. Sekac (86 PLY)
N. Walker (84 PLY) - S. Matthias (83 PWF) - B. Ritchie (84 PWF)
J. Proulx (80 GRN) - M. Kruger (82 TWF) - C. Clutterbuck (81 GRN)

M. Marincin (85 TWD) - D. Hamilton (96 OFD)
R. Gagnon (84 DFD) - D. Rundblad (87 OFD)
S. Day* (83 TWD) - J. Samuelsson* (82 TWD)

A. Moodie (92 HYB)
T. Greiss (85 HYB)

Scratched - D. Girardi (80 DFD), L. Korpikoski (80 TWF) both brought in for depth. Both have 1 year left, Girardi at 5 mill and Korpikoski at 1 million.

* indicates rookie

So a different look this year, but the vast majority have stayed....Steen is 35 years old and has three years left on his contract, not sure if he'll see that out or not. He does have the four white stars still so hopefully he'll stay at 87OA with a good season.

That's fun and realistic.

Trade Rumours

GM Brant King has the touch of an angel as this Flames team looks as good as it has in quite some time, but that doesn't mean he's stopped searching for ways to make his team better. King has decided to place Jiri Hudler on the trade block along with 1 of the teams 4 second round picks and Joe Colborne. King feels these players will not be needed sooner than later with the definite emergence of Sam Bennett and the possible breakthrough of Vincent Trochek.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

New Players

  1. TYLER BOZAK ~ Top 6 Forward with great defensive play. Could be a real gamechanger for this Flames team. - 4yrs/4.200M
  2. BRAD RICHARDS ~ Experienced playmaker with lots of poise, which is great for a PP Quarterback. Should be a major contributor - 3yrs/2.950M
  3. JAROMIR JAGR ~ Oldest player left in NHL, still going strong. Will bring great leadership, and contributions, to the team. - 2yrs/3.500M
  4. SEAN BERGENHEIM ~ 3rd line Forward with the ability to move up in the lineup if needed. Will be used on the PK and possibly the PP if his numbers stay up. - 3yrs/2.750M
  5. ANTOINE VERMETTE ~ Easily the best defensive forward on the team. Not expected to make a ton of noise offensively, but should contribute at least 30 points. - 2yrs/3.250M
  6. MIKE SANTORELLI ~ Speedy forward that is signed long-term. Expected to improve his offensive abilities while maintaining his strong defensive play. - n5yrs/3.000M
  7. SHAWN MATTHIAS ~ At 26 years of age is the second-youngest Bottom 6 Forward the Flames have. He is great in the faceoff circle which benefits the team in both the defensive and the offensive zones. - 2yrs/2.000M
  8. TYLER KENNEDY ~ Tyler Kennedy is looking to regain his role in the NHL as a Top 6 Forward, but that is very unlikely with this Flames team. That being said he has every chance to gain the organizations trust and steal a spot from one of Sean Bergenheim or Mike Santorelli on the 3rd line. - 1yr/2.000M

NEXT UP, JAN. 1ST, WHO WILL RESIGN...

With the January transfer window rolling around Man U were looking to make some moves.
The first move was getting CDM Sami Khedira (84) on a free transfer on a 3 year deal worth 230k. Khedira will join next year.

Man U also bought 20 year old Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for $13M and GK Victor Valdes. Varane and Laporte will make a great CB pairing for now and the next 15 years. Laporte signed a 4yr deal worth 90k.

They also loaned out 19 year old LB Luke Shaw to Swansea City and LM Adnan Januzaj to Atletic Bilbao. As well as signing CB Fabian Schär on a free transfer. He signed a 4 year deal worth 60k.
And they sold GK Lindgaard to Aston Villa for 4.6M
New squad:
Depay (80,20) Rooney (86,29) Mata (85,26)

Gündogan (83,24) Di Maria (85,26)

Gonalons (81,25)

Rojo (80,24) Laporte (80,20) Varane (82,21) Valencia (80,29)

De Gea (86,24)

But it's unrealistic, it can't be fun picking in the top 5 every year as well as winning the cup. There's no challenge as you get top players all the time to replace older ones.

I also see lineups with a top 6 and top 4 full of all stars, does everyone play with the salary cap off?

The salary cap in this game is pretty much useless at making people have to make tough choices.

Players don't ask for realistically high enough salaries. So it is easy to stack teams if you want to take the easy route. UFAs don't ask for enough money in this game, and they are also broken and never hit the open market so you don't actually have to be competitive when trying to retain your UFAs.

I disagree a bit. I've seen players like Kesler, Yandle and Giordano hit the market, think they asked for decent money 6+ a year. I've also played with Tampa and have had Kucherov and Drouin ask for 7mil after their ELC has finished. Even if players don't ask for a lot in order to acquire them you'd need to give up a lot so unless you've traded all your draft picks plus everybody but your NHL roster not sure how you get them all?

Players don't demand higher salaries as the cap raises like they do in real life, nor do they use comparable players in their position. Two features that would make GM Mode a bit more difficult and force you to make tougher decisions.

Are you playing on a nextgen console? If the player improves in overall they almost always ask for more then what they were making. Sure they may not ask for what some consider their market value but a raise non the less. If you are constantly drafting in the top 5 when those players finish their ELC they are usually highly rated and jump from 925k or under to the millions. Not sure how you can have superstars plus elite prospects no longer on an ELC and stay under the cap.

I play of course with salary cap on. Right now I have 0.6 or 0.7M in cap space

I know it's unrealistic, but it is a game, not reality haha. If I want things to be realistic, I can visit nhl.com :laugh: And imagine if Boston goes to the SCF, I'll have just the 29th or 30 selection. And it would be a disaster trade. Prediction game :yo:

For this first draft don't forget I've traded an elite D (Green) to have an extra 1st round pick (and to clear a lot of space$$$).
But for the next one I have just one 1st round pick. So if for the next draft I'll have for example the 12th pick, it will be difficult (impossible) to exchange 12th vs 1st overall.
+ At the begging yes, you have McDavid and other good players, but 4-5-6 years later in the GM Mode, if you even have the 2nd overall pick, it's difficult to improve him and arrived @ 85-86OV.
I had this problem on NHL12, just the 1st overall pick was good (top top player) in the future.

So at the start of the year, where it's easy to exchange picks, I trade some. And at the deadline, I'll also try to acquire picks in TOP 5-10
I said this but at the deadline 1st year, it was impossible to trade the Dallas pick (Dallas were 64GP 65PTS) VS a NJ 1st round (65GP - 63PTS) . Dallas were 19th and NJ20th in the standings.

PS3. And obviously they ask for more. I'm relating it to real life. It's way easier to lock up guys in the game the way it is like I did Couture for 5 or 6 years at less than $6 million (or somewhere around there) while he's constantly a 75-85 point player for me and 90 overall.
