They do? I dunno, I hate Ottawa but gotta give props that I've always thought the Sens generally draft pretty well. For a budget team that likely doesn't drop as much on scouting as the Leafs probably do, I find they get way more bang for buck with their picks. Kinda envious tbh.

Noting, they have one player, who has NHL games played, from the combined 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 drafts. That player is with the Sharks, and only played 13 games this year, likely an AHL/NHL tweener at best.

When you have #3, #5 and #4 picks overall, you should get quality players.

From the 2020 draft, they have one NHL player selected outside the first round - Kleven - 96 games
From the 2019 draft, they managed Pinto and Kastelic outside of the first round, 210 and 205 games.
From the 2017 draft. they have Batherson outside the first round, great pick, 4th round, 391 games.

For comparison...
2021 Knies - 161 games
2019 Robertson - 156 games
2018 Durzi - 214 games, Holmberg 159 games

I don't consider our drafting to be anything special to be honest, but outside of the first round, they haven't really done much better than us... They sure have whiffed on a few.. Tyler Boucher 10th OA, 2021..10 points this season in the AHL, Lassi Thomson 19th OA 2019, playing in Europe. Shane Bowers 28th OA 2017...

Probably already discussed somewhere but does anyone know the rules behind delay of game? That ridiculous Ullmark equipment problem that delayed the game about 4-5 minutes? At what point should the ref say "either you get a delay of game penalty or you put your backup in"? It was obvious he was dragging his butt as they were getting blitzed, and he was getting frazzled.

Ah it's a bit of gamesmanship on Ully's end. I was surprised our bench didn't start going at the refs on it. It almost seemed as if we had been ok with the delay as well.

Its all part of the playoffs as far as I'm concerned. All is fair in love and war

Kinda like Stoly going to town on Greig. That was very clearly retribution for running him in game 1. Its a long series, gotta take your shots when you get the opportunity. Whether that is physically like Stoly on Greig, or psychologically in what Ullmark did

2-0 and haven't really woken up 5 on 5 yet. Series should be a wrap.

We didn't fully lock Boston off 5 on 5 until the second half of the series last year either. Boston had literally nothing after the first few games. It sucks we didn't close game 7. Sens aren't ready for that life yet. They have more building to do.

Clever gamesmanship by a veteran goalie to try and settle his team down - pretty sure the Leafs scored immediately after? Think it's up to the discretion of the referees at the end of the day.

As far as timely stoppages go though, really felt like whatever happened on the ice repairs late in the third causing a long stoppage, just after the Sens tied it 2-2, was exactly what the Leafs needed to.

Basically both teams benefited from unscheduled timeouts.

Right at that moment when it was happening with Ullmark shenanigans I thought to myself “you will regret this crap right away”. And we immediately scored two goals.
This was basic psychology. Leafs players got only angrier as delay went on. You know they had influx of energy to make them pay for it. And also it benefited Leafs because when you are angry your jitters go away.
He can do it next game as well for all I care.

With this year's team and coaching they would've taken out the 2024 Bruins in 5. Such a shame that everything went wrong last year

I wonder if Pacioretty’s health is a non renewable resource and his physicality needs to be deployed at the right time and not a just throw him in kind of asset.
Good point, his time to shine might be further down the road, I can’t believe I just said that after the years of disappointment, but here we are……..

Actually shocked how whiny they are.
Then again, they whined after game 1 and basically got every single call in game 2 so maybe they’re on to something.

Anyway, feel pretty confident in saying even if there are examples that too many men probably happens multiple times every game for most teams and the refs almost always let it go unless it directly impacts the play.

When you can't beat 'em on the ice, cry like a baby.
