That 2nd period was ugly. But they found a way to win. Can’t see the Sens winning 4 out of 5. Hopefully the leafs find some killer instinct after all these years.

Love being up 2-0 heading on the road and there has been a lot to like so far, but there are clear areas they can improve too. How they're able to make those adjustments as they head to Ottawa will dictate a lot.

Hoping they can steal one of the next two on the road

They were good in the first. Dreadful in the second. Okay in the third. Shut them down fine till OEL and the Domi line burnt them late. Then Max played the hero. Happy for him.

I know dont mess with a winning lineup
but I don't think you can roll McMann Domi Robertson out there on the road. Green will match his big boys out there against them every chance he can. I'd put Laughton up at 3C and bring Kampf back to center the 4th line if I were Berube.

With 2.5 minutes left in the third Matthews' was tripped which would have been a clear regular season penalty, which was right before the near puck over glass penalty.

Some additional context: the Leafs only had 1 PP in this game and it was in the first.

Leafs will need to up their game a lot more. They have to find another gear in terms of breaking up the opponents cycle and spending more time in the offensive zone. It's always great winning those kind of games though.

Agreed. I've also never liked his decision-making with the puck on zone entries along the boards. He's a good player but has his limitations and if he's not in front of the net I'm not sure how he's adding a ton of value.

Feels great to win, but there's a lot of problems with how the Leafs played this game.

Willy was nonexistent other than some surprisingly good defensive play at points, I forgot McMann was even on the team until the third, Robertson was awful, Matthews feels like he's gone back to "good but not great" playoff mode, JT with a few weird giveaways and a bad night on the draws.... this game could easily have gone Ottawa's way.

It can only get better... right? Hoping this is the one off for the series and the boys shalack the Sens at their/our barn.

I noticed towards the end of the season the Leafs' have stopped f***ing around on the PP and attacked quickly .. it's really paying off here in the playoffs.

For a long time we've seen so much perimeter passing for looks, but this is a nice development.

He read the play well, intercepted the puck, noticed that Sens were on the change, so he took the space, passed to Domi and went to the net and blocked Ullmark vision with 3 other Sens there. Great play!

Its been their DNA + goaltending. I dont have an issue with their defense, its been teir long stretches of not maintaining offensive zone pressure that concerns me. Still lacking that constant net presence too. The screen by Benoit on that OT winner was golden but Domi needed to place it perfectly right off the post and in. Ive liked Domis focus in interviews, they all seem to be on the same page...win.

Berube definitely caught their ear heading into the third. They put a nice wet blanket on it overall. Just one miscue and that was it. But they held their composure. You can see the experience paying off.

That being said I hope that second period is a wake up call that it only gets harder and they need to bring it in game 3. Don't give the Sens any hope/momentum.
