I think it's almost safe to assume we will be 16th in the East.

So that leaves us with Chicago, Arizona, and San Jose as main competitors. I assume we will have a top 5 pick once again.
One lf Chicago or Arizona will finish ahead of the Habs, pretty sure. Just have to tamk hard enough to beat Philly and thats a top 3. Leo Carlsson will look hella good.

Actually as a board we did pretty good on this poll. We got 7 of the 8 teams. Seattle went from bottom 4 last year to a playoff spot this year, while Washington tanked into bottom 8 spot. That's the only miss.

Congratulations to the 4 people that selected Washington.
I think NJD appeared to surprise quite a few also.

To be fair on paper Seattle is a bottom 10 team. I mean their best forward is Jared McCann. He had a great year but he's still Jared McCann. They are playing without any kind of pressure in a market where fans are excited for their brand new team. It's something people always underestimate. It helps a lot. They are not the first expension team to surprise. Florida Panthers did the same in their 3rd year with Mellanby posting a 70 points season (à la Jared McCann) while he was historically a 50 points guy.

Even Vegas while they keep doing well in the regular season they had to shake up their core a lot in the last 2-3 years. They also never were able to reach the scf again pathetically losing against us in the semis. It was a series they should have won 100%. But here's the thing against US they were clear favorite and the pressure was finally ON, And the pressure it can destroys anyone. It's the greatest opponent a player will ever face in his career,

I voted Chicago, San Jose, Arizona, Montreal, Philadelphia, Anaheim, Seattle and Winnipeg. I was not too far ;)

Put 16 balls of the non Playoffs teams in a bowl and pick. That's it. No one tanking. Everyone of those has a chance to pick #1...or #16 !

100% i would go as far as removing the draft entirely

make it like soccer in europe, pure scouting capabilities, managers and success
