Barzal unhappy with Fan Support/Attendance at UBS Arena

Sorry Matt but if you expect people to pay $100 for a ticket, 8 bucks for a hotdog and 20 bucks for a beer all so you can make $9M/year, you need to do a little better than last in your division. People not spending their hard-earned money on crap is kind of, you know, how it works.

Someone in here said they spent 500 for tickets, that is absurd for 1 game, for some people that’s their whole after taxes take for a weeks worth of work. I love the sport of hockey, I love other sports too, but if this is how the prices keep going I almost hope these leagues fail. This is absolutely no way to treat the working and middle classes. I saw Stevie wonder in concert with relatively good tickets for just under 150. If you think I’m spending 200+ dollars to watch some bum ass players who are overpaid mail it in all season you got another thing coming.

I’m a bit skeptical that everyone would say Barzal was saying this if they were shown the clip without seeing the alleged quotes first.

But maybe most people are way more effective at lip reading than I am and I’m just missing it.
Might be confusing because the tweet in the OP is actually wrong, but it does get the gist of what he’s saying

“This place is f***ing empty, [something]”
*dude next to him leans in likely bc he didn’t hear him*
“This place is empty.” (Long pause) “it’s a f***ing joke”

The NYI have been playing boring hockey and been mediocre for a loooooong time...not really surprised

Home game for Barzal and Isles.

"This place is empty, " F-ing Joke Bro"

Reported attendance last night was around 14k.

Islanders are reporting as the 5th worst team in attendance this season

No he did not say that at all. This has got to be a joke. As I said on the Isles boards I am able to read lips and had a part time job teaching the partially deaf how to read lips at a day youth center. I was quite good actually as I was bilingual at reading lips though not a native spanish speaker. What he actually said was, "I even bought her season tickets at club level. Now she won't return my calls. It's an F-ing joke", but the video was a little fuzzy so he could have said, "I bought a hot dog on the second floor concession stand and they ran out of mustard. Can you believe that shit? F-king joke" So there is some room for interpretation. I would say the closest interpretation is "Lambert would have us on our heels playing basketball defense at this point in the game. We're leading by 1 goal. F-ing joke".

It’s just you. Now at 57 I watched my Islanders win 19 straight playoff series and 4 Stanley Cups while producing several hall of fame legends. Not many of us fans left unfortunately. Too many current Islander fans at least on these boards go as far back is Milbury running the show and many even more recent which is unfortunate. I guess I’m lucky and already had my share of Cup celebrations as an Islander fan.

There are MANY fans under 57 that have never seen the Isles do anything of any importance except for that one covid bubble playoff.

The 4 cups were a looooooong time ago.

To most people the isles are the very picture of a poor franchise.

NHL tickets today are too expensive for me to criticize fans for not showing up to watch a bad/mediocre team.

Like people have bills to pay and going to a game with your family is likely going to cost around like $200.
200$ for 1 ticket here
