Neither.
I will say it again — Dobson is under team control for another season minimum even with arbitration. No GM is going to give him what he is looking for in 8-9 mil. He's having a down year and has been hurt for stretches. Equally with his down year, you will not get the "star" back you may think. I say keep Dobson and sort out another bridge deal 1 or 2 years that says "Show me" and lets see if he can, and if he is healthy.
For Barzal — he frustrates at times (as dose Dobson, as do they all). He is having a down year but so are all of them. Plus he's hurt.
I think fans are overreacting to the troubles this team is having. You trade Barzal and Dobson and Horvat and Sorokin if you are tearing the entire franchise to the bones. That is NOT required in my mind.
Let's just start with trading some older expiring contracts. Trade Nelson. Trade Palmieri. Those two trade are absolutely required. There should be absolutely no universe that makes any hockey sense or business sense that either player should be on this team after 3pm March 7. The team needs to get younger, build up some assets that have fresher, younger legs.
Trading Pageau, and I would say one of Pelech or Pulock would be next — but only if the deal back is an offer I can't refuse.
Let's see where they are after dealing (HOPEFULLY) Nelson and Palmieri. Focus on the draft and free agency and try again in 2025-26 with a new look team. If it proves to be a struggle again, Pageau and Lee should be traded, and again, they get a bit younger, hopefully faster.
Trading Dobson will be a repeat of trading Toews. A giant effing mistake.
