Meanwhile, I gained a lot of respect for Poile watching this presser...
He mentions the Radulov/playoff faux pas... (meanwhile, so much for Radulov and a multitude of Kostitsyns. Not like they've impacted hockey and/or the NHL since.)
He mentions Erat wanting out... (well, how has that worked out Marty? You crapped the bed in Washington, and went to Phoenix where you helped them miss the playoffs.)
He does mention Austin Watson, but also mentions Jarnkrok, Forsberg, Leipsic, and Pontus Aberg... while some of this may stock the AHL for another year or two, there's certainly some of it that IS going to be a big plus for the Preds.
He talked about 3 points, (2 shoot out wins)... (actually 3

)... and he talked about 5 forwards...
1. Nystrom... MINUS 25. Sure he scored 15 goals, but on a team where only four guys were in double digit minus, that just stands out as being unacceptable. Throw in that he was -19 at home, and only -6 on the road.
2. Bourque... In two seasons prior, he played 77 games for the Preds, and potted 18 goals. That number was cut in half this season. More was certainly expected.
3. Stalberg... My personal whipping boy was terrible from top to bottom. For all his hoopla, he proved that he couldn't play in the top 6 or the bottom 6. You can blame Trotz all you want, but it would be easy to put together a 20 minute highlight reel of Stalberg fanning, whiffing, shanking shots, and flubbing passes and missing assignments along the boards. That you can't blame on a coach.
4. Hornqvist... Poile mentions 40 game stretch where he had just one ESG. You want to blame Trotz? I think not. Cold as ice when it mattered most.
5. Wilson... four or five times in an 82 game season he shone brightly. In today's NHL, that is roughly 75 times too little. Guy looks like a world beater on occasion, but too many nights you forget he was even on the ice.
and, lest you think I'm going to heap praise on Cluner... he too had a really disappointing season, but I do know that he performed his role as he was asked, and towards the end of the season was allowed to kill a few penalties. He's defensively as responsible a guy as this team has, but of course his skill set does limit said effectivity. He'd hardly be the reason this team didn't succeed... with or without Barry Trotz.
