Barrie Colts 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

I think he lost his ice time more due to decision making with the puck. He seems to lack overall hockey sense. Size and skating are amazing but IQ needs development for sure. When you're bigger, stronger, and faster than everyone you get away with a lack of IQ a the lower levels. Now that he's in the O it's being exposed. He definitely needs IQ improvement to get to the next level. If he can learn through video and reps over the next two years, he could still work out as a solid defensive defender - he certainly possesses the raw tools to do it.

Eliasson almost made me eat my words yesterday with that dumb late penalty haha. Good on the boys for holding strong.

Side note: imagine the colts kept Elinias instead of Lowe?

Yup, He is a third period penalty machine when the game is tight.
Oshawa is going to have their way with drawing him into undisciplined penalties.

Gens also have the playoff experience from last year. Gens in 6 is my prediction. London in 5 vs Kitchener

In finals London in 5

Colts success will depend on Hillebrandt. He almost stole the 7 game series from the Shwa last season when the colts really only had Beaudoin and Jeslma. In fact, the colts probably would have won the series if it hadn't been for some bogus reffing...still urks me lol.

Redemption time I hope! Go Colts Go.

2024 Playoffs - Barrie was 2-1 in Oshawa and 0-3 at home.

2025 Reg Season Barrie was 1-1 in the Shwa & 2-0 at home.
Oct. 06 Barrie 4 @ Oshawa 3
Nov. 16 Oshawa 4 @ Barrie 6
Dec. 31 Oshawa 4 @ Barrie 7
Jan. 31 Barrie 2 @ Oshawa 3 (OT)

Both teams are substantially improved year over year in both talent and experience.

Goaltending Edge = Barrie IMO. Proven last season in the playoffs.
Defence edge = Draw - I think Barrie has better top end depth but Oshawa has more overall depth
Forwards Edge = slight edge to oshawa - Oshawa has more experience, better high end caliber but less overall depth.

If colts can roll 3 - 4 lines and keep the pace going fast, limit time and space, and stay out of the box, I think the colts will wear down the Shwa.....Going to be a darn good series, time will tell!

Go Colts Go.

You can see why Williams has never won anything. Leaves the goalie in the net until 1:30 left, losing and already have a 4 on 4. First thing Barrie needs to do is to move on from him.
Barrie won’t howie the owner would rather pay Marty 125 or 150 whatever he does than pay 2 guys 100 and hire an actual coach Marty is a great gm but can’t win as a coach on the big stage like u said. They won’t move on from him until he decides himself he doesn’t wanna coach anymore

I've never liked him from his last stint in Barrie .
Drafting Rychel then whatever he was tied to in Niagara.

Hes too high strung on the bench .

Probably for the best we lose this series if we somehow beat Oshawa London would beat Barrie every game by 10 goals minimum
Yeah that’s the thing. Everyone wants to go to the finals but that’s as far as every team in the east goes. London will win in 5 or 6 TOPS vs Oshawa

Yeah I think London is really trying to go 16-0 this playoff too and I could see it. Oshawa has the superstars up front to win a game or 2 Barrie just doesn’t have the stars up front. Kingston would do better vs Oshawa because Kingston could roll out their top line and compete against oshawas top line. Barrie has the north may line that’s good and after that it’s 2 good players and 1 anchor on each of the other 2 lines that’ll struggle to score any goals this series.

That north bay line wasn’t our playoff driving line either. Our success last year was more from Vilmanis, Nelson, Ertel, Arnsby, Mathurin plus the stellar play of McIvor. OVS is a gamer, never quits, but Romani doesn’t do well sometimes with the grit/grind of playoff hockey. Who really cares though Londons probably going 16-0

Ertel-Arnsby-Vilmanis & OVS-Wakely-Romani / Proscyszyn were about equal last post season.
I think Romani has a point in every playoff game this year

They should be combining their top players into 2 lines. Oshawa's third line isn't going to dominate anyone. move Jelsma with Beaudoin and Hemming/Patterson and maybe they won't get smoked by the ritchie line. NB has to score against Griffin line simple as that.

Congratulations to Dalyn Wakely, Tony Romani and Owen Van Steensel on FOUR (4) consecutive years as the Eastern Conference runner up.

What a remarkable accomplishment.
