Barrie Colts 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
My only concerns are the losses of 53 and 12. They are so important to the team and we do not have anyone else like them. hopefully can be addressed in the summer.
Yeah ideally they’ll start there D core this summer with 77 8 78 88 as the top 4 but they’ll have to likely upgrade 8 to either a 05 OA or trade for another Bertucci type player in the offseason who’s an 06 D man. Don’t know how many options they’ll be but a guy like Fischer in sarnia may be available if they aren’t ready to go for it till the following year when he won’t be around. Or if akey is back then they won’t have to worry to much abt a top 4 D man right away.

I am interested to see how Vader developed this season in Jr. A. Also wondering if Emerton would consider signing. Both of those players will have a learning curve but have good potential to play in puck moving roles.

Those 2 will have a chance at making the team next year Emerton if he wants to as I think he’s better than Vader. And Barton the 2nd rounder from last year I would think makes it for sure next season aswell

I agree that all three will have the chance to make the team. I think Vader may be a better two way defender, and Emerton may have more offensive potential. Vader being a year older and having two years of Jr. A experience might be a little more game ready. Barton seems like he will develop as a defensive, hard to play against defender to compliment a guy like Emerton. Hopefully Passmore takes another step next season and can be our go-to shut down guy and a mentor for a guy like Barton.

Can anyone provide some info of Gabriel Eliasson?

Like how he's doing, good and bad stuff, how he projects, etc...?

Super super raw prospect for sure. Skates fairly well for his size and when he keeps it simple he’s pretty good. He’s one of those guys the least u see him during a game the better. The physicality is great when he’s under control but often times he likes to get the extra hit in after the pucks gone and has gotten a ton of pentalies because of that. He limits the penalties and he has a shot of being a bottom 6 nhl d man but even that won’t happen for another 3-4 years imo. I would assume he’s back in Barrie next year before going to the Ahl

The other thing to note is because of his size there have been a number of penalties called as the result of those checks. However, I agree that he is very raw and will probably be back next year and if he can control his temperament he will become a really good shut down defender.

For sure and other teams know that and try to bait him into pentalies. Smart move by opponents I also think Eliasson always looks better when he’s with akey aswell.
