Barracuda News & Discussion VII

It was obvious to me that Bordeleau was trash from the first time I saw him play for Michigan and I was called a troll for saying so at the time.

GMs and scouts get attached to their prospects. Bordeleau may have a point; DW or his son might have given Bordeleau more opportunities.
That may be true that he would have had more opportunities, but Gambrell is kind of a good case in point of what I've been thinking about reading these quotes. If a player needs extra opportunities fed to them, that may be an indicator that they aren't going to be much of an impact player at this level.

Genuine question: can you think of any counter examples? Guys who didn't succeed in their first or second NHL stints but put it all together on the 3rd or later?

Yeah, I already posted this in the roster discussion thread, but it's more relevant here. Barracuda are going to need another 1C for next season.

Signing a new 1C is no issue, but it's not going to be possible for us to sign another Andrew Poturalski, that's for sure. This freaking sucks.

He said in his interviews that he had hoped to get more NHL time. Sounds like he has a KHL offer for probably a lot of money.
Not saying this one in particular is suspicious, but he signed a 2 year deal knowing he was going to likely be in the AHL since that's been his career and booking it after one, like three or four others have already done to other AHL teams, is quite odd.

Are we up to 5 veteran performing AHLers that have had their contracts terminated? Something ain't right

I think it's 4 in the past two seasons, if we're not using the AHL definition of "veteran."

Poturalski, Todd: KHL
Gawanke: DEL
Pitlick: Unknown, can't speculate. He missed a game for "personal reasons" and then shortly thereafter his contract was terminated. So that might've been something non-hockey related.

But there's also Agozzino, who requested a trade out of here to go to San Diego in 2024.

Pulli also terminated his contract to go to Switzerland, but I don't feel like he fits the definition of "veteran performing."

That's a lot. It'd be nice to hang onto these guys.

I think likely the issue is that guys sign here because they look at the NHL roster and think… surely, I can make that team. And then they don’t because they’re not good and get upset and go off elsewhere.
